Hotels/resorts in Portofino are very expensive and my wife and I are generally of the opinion that we try to save money on hotels and spend it on activities/experiences. This being our srategy we booked the Domina Inn Piccolo over the pricier and perhaps more luxurious hotels in the area. We were very happy with our selection. The Domina Inn is perfectly located, a short walk from the scenic harbor, up on a hillside, with a private lounging area at the public beach directly across the street from the hotel. For our needs it was the most convenient spot possible. We wanted easy town and beach access, and this was the perfect combination. The room was large by European standards, with plenty of storage space and a small balcony. The bathroom was small (again, it's Europe) but adequate and well-designed. The bed was firm and the linens nothing special, but they weren' awful either. The staff was patient, friendly and attentive. Not many rooms face the Mediterranean, but you might get lucky, so ask about getting one or try to reserve one specifically. There is a road located behind some rooms, so the occasional motor would make itself heard, but there's not much traffic in Portofino, so this was not a major disturbance for us. They also do provide free parking at the hotel, which is a BIG deal in Portofino should you have a vehicle. Not sure where we would have parked otherwise. Overall the Domina Inn Piccolo was the perfect place for us. If you're seeking lavish comforts and a true resort vacation in Portofino, it may not be the place for you. For location, convenience and a little extra spending money, don't hesitate to stay there.
