Description:
When we visit a new city, even in our own country, we often feel that we haven't quite experienced all that the city had to offer because we didn?t know its pulse. We often think that our experience would be richer if we knew someone. How much worse is that in a new country where you need to cut through the tourist minefield you may just miss the real city altogether. Visiting Jaipur without visiting our homes, living with us, understanding our way of life, our thoughts and beliefs would be an empty visit. There are so many things that one would miss as a tourist but not as a guest. One can now be a part of our culture and unsurpassed, unchallengeable hospitality. One will be welcomed, looked after, given the best advice and guidance and help and assistance of any kind that they may need. They will be taken care of like no where else creating a truly memorable experience.

After receiving a number of emails from the owners encouraging us to reflect on our stay, we are hesitant to say much, but feel we must be truthful. The home was undoubtedly beautiful, and the room we stayed in was very nice, however our overall stay was awkward and disappointing. Once arriving at the home, we were offered food and beverages after our long trip and assured that we could educate ourselves on the costs later. We are the kind of people who want to know from the get go what we will be spending our money on. Costs covered up by hospitality left a bad taste in our mouths. We had to communicate with the host what are plans were and estimated time of return each day, which only added to the discomfort. The home is not centrally located, so getting to where you'd want to spend your time in Jaipur was difficult. The idea of a home stay is wonderful, assuming you have a comfortable exchange with those who run the place. We opted out for too much time together, once we realized we would struggle to enjoy our exchanges due to what we would say are "social differences". The food we ate was simple and uninspiring, so we traveled into the city to eat and spend our time. The house is kept nice by two "servants", and assuming you take no issue with the smell of cigarettes, it is very clean and attractive. The hard truth is, this stay was meant to be a special treat and turned out to be a poor use of our money.

My time at Devika's Home Stay was the highlight of my six weeks in India. The family went out of their way to ensure that I saw as much of Jaipur as I could during my stay and they made certain that I had the opportunity to experience many of the things that originally made me decide to visit India. Their hospitality was amazing and they made a weary traveler feel welcome in a new city. Staying in their home was an enjoyable experience that I will not soon forget and I would recommend to any traveler looking to see more of Jaipur than what the guidebooks post.

The atmosphere was very friendly and the hosts were the best. The stay here was better than the 5 star hotel I stayed in in another city. I would recommend this home stay to anyone. I've been many places and have never had an experience with a family from another country like this. It was truly a blessing to have stayed here and met the family I stayed with here.

Our host and hostess, X and Y, welcomed us like family from afar. They went out of their way to provide for our comfort and our travel needs -- excellent food, taxis ordered, personal touring with us. Highlights were seeing the new Jaipur with Y and village life and rug weaving with X. We had no idea of location, just a great recommendation from friends. With transportation by X and taxi, the location worked out fine -- much quieter and more restful than in the congestion of the city. We have already recommended this place to others and hope to return ourselves.

Host xyz and his wife zyz were exceptional in their hospitality. They opened their house and heart to us, and during our stay we felt as if we were a part of their family. xyz took us to the Shopping Malls, Medical School, University and to the contemporary Art Museum, and showed us the nicer part of the city. They spoke excellent English, and we had no communication problems. The food prepared by cook zzzz under the direction of xyz was exceptional and very tasty. I would recommend this place highly, and would stay with them again should we go to Jaipure. VSS

We had an awesome experience. The concept is brilliant and captivating. We felt homely and got our share of privacy. There was a fusion of ethnic and modern ambience. Drives,foods-in all we had a great experience. We are so grateful. Professionalism is at optimum. We shall miss you, xxx and of course xxx. We really got a motherly touch. Would love to come and stay here again. Simply unforgettable. Wish you all luck... You gonna go to great heights. Kriti & Ashwin
