Tropical Retreat. Self-contained, air-conditioned, BandB bungalows on a picturesque 30-acre property near Daintree National Park. The perfect hideaway for honeymooners, birdwatchers, nature-lovers or for a relaxing interlude during a busy holiday schedule. Eight kilometres beyond Daintree Village, at the end of a scenic valley trail lies this peaceful haven, alive with tropical birds and butterflies and filled with tropical gardens, rainforest, tropical fruit trees and easy walking tracks. Each bungalow has a private verandah overlooking the wetlands-dam, tropical gardens and rainforest and has either a Queen-size or KingTwin Bed plus convertible sofa for one extra adult - kindly note there are no facilities for children under 12. There is an ensuite with large shower, microwave, electric cooktop, fridge and all cooking utensils and the bungalows are air-conditioned, have a ceiling fan and are fully insect-screened. No passing traffic, TVs or radios - and your mobile phone will only work in Daintree Village, 8km away. The only sound you will hear will be bird calls!A complimentary daily breakfast basket is supplied and includes a platter of tropical fruits, some home-grown in season, fruit juice, cereals, home-made jams and yoghurt, locally-grown freshly-ground coffee and Daintree tea. Bring your own supplies and dine at home in your cabin or on the barbeque in the historic old open shed - perhaps have a dip in the jacuzzi while you cook your dinner! Self-cook meals and drinks are also available. There are several restaurants in and around Daintree Village. Far from the madding crowd yet convenient for all the beautiful region's activities - 10 minutes to Daintree Village, 20 minutes to beautiful Wonga Beach - Cape Tribulation, Mossman Gorge, Port Douglas and the Cairns Highlands are all within a 1-2 hour drive. Your resident hosts, Peter and Daphne, are always available to help with local information, and bookings if necessary, but the emphasis is upon your comfort and privacy.

FAQs

The following questions have been answered for you by Daintree Valley Haven...

What are your breakfast options?
Guests receive a complimentary daily breakfast basket, delivered to their bungalow the previous afternoon which means they may choose their own breakfast time. There is a tropical fruit platter which includes any home-grown fruits in season, fruit juice, two cereals, bread, homemade jams and yogurt, freshly-ground coffee grown organically on the nearby Atherton Tablelands and Daintree tea, also grown locally.
Where can we dine?
Our three bungalows are self-catering, although a complimentary daily breakfast basket is provided. There are several restaurants and cafes in and around Daintree Village, 7km away. We also have a small menu of self-cook meals which guests may prepare 'at home' or on the gas barbeque in our historic old open-sided shed. Our meals average about AU$14 per person for barbeque meats, or seafood or vegetarian pasta. We also have wines ($15), beers ($3) and soft drinks ($1.50) which as a small B&B, we are permitted to sell.
Have you renovated recently?
We have just replaced the old through-the-wall air-conditioners with new whisper quiet split systems; the old Queen size bed in each bungalow has been replaced with new Sealy pillow-top ensembles - two Queen-size and the other a King/Zip; all new towels, and some linen and pillows have also been replaced, plus various pieces of equipment such as new stainless steel kettles, umbrellas etc.
What traveller type is most suited?
We are not a family destination and most of our guests are couples of all ages. We do not cater for children under 12 as our emphasis is on peace and privacy for our guests who tend to be birdwatchers, nature-lovers, honeymooners, artists, photographers, folks needing to de-stress or just to slow down for a while. Some guests are out all day 'doing' things; others don't move past the gate.
What transport is available to get around?
All our guests must have their own transport. Public transport in the Daintree region is extremely limited with buses only once or twice a day into Daintree Village, and we are a further 7km up the valley from the Village. Our road is unsealed but well-maintained by Council and is suitable for normal sedans. Activities in the area are quite spread out but all easily accessible for self-drive visitors.
What can I do nearby?
While we are in a lovely secluded location, ideal for rest and relaxation, we are also very handy for all the Daintree region's varied activities. Crocodile- and nature-watching cruises, restaurants, galleries, 8wd Argo tours are a 10-minute drive away in Daintree Village, 20 minutes to the Daintree ferry then a further 30-60 minutes to rainforest boardwalks, Daintree Discovery Centre, jungle surfing, sea kayaking, beautiful beaches at Cape Tribulation. 40 minutes to the south is Mossman Gorge with its swimming holes and rainforest walk (self-guided or with an Aboriginal guide). Just over an hour to the resort town of Port Douglas, there are day cruises to the Great Barrier Reef, wildlife sanctuary and many shops and restaurants. A 90-minute drive takes you to the Atherton Tablelands (sometimes called the Cairns Highlands).
As a family, what are the best things to do?
Not really applicable as we don't cater for young children. Child-friendly activities in the region include beaches, river and Great Barrier Reef cruises, 8wd Argo tours, horse riding.
Do you have internet?
Most of our communications in the Valley are via satellite so the bungalows do not have internet access however guests are welcome to use our office computer free of charge.
Do you provide parking?
Open-air parking next to each bungalow; plenty of room on our 30 acres and of course no charge.
What makes your hotel the best?
We offer our guests a unique, secluded tropical experience in a beautiful valley - far from the madding crowd yet within easy reach of all Daintree's attractions. We have vibrant tropical gardens on our 30 acre property, lots of rainforest and walking trails, dozens of tropical fruit trees and over 120 species of birds at various times of the year. Our focus is upon providing a tranquil, private 'haven' with minimal intrusion into our guests' space, although we are always available if they need us for anything. Some people talk to us every day, others we see when they arrive and the next time is when they leave. Other accommodation properties in our area offer different experiences- traditional B&B's with constant interaction between host and guest, world-famous eco-resort with up-market dining and spa, farm-stay cabins catering for families with children, budget cabin-style accommodation at a caravan park. We feel we all complement each other by offering diverse options to visitors.
