Great location shame about the roomsThis hotel is in a great location and has a great front of house, modern bars and a high quality feel, its a great shame the bedrooms sadly do not match the rest of the hotel, frankly a disgrace for the money; room small and in despeate need of overhaul espacially bathrooms, too hot and no air conditioning working

We arrived early and they had a room ready for us but then we asked for two twin beds and they ended up upgrading us without extra charge. My favortie part of the room was the towel warmers which, for me, was a first. Our room wasn't on the side of the courtyard so at night we could hear the police sirens going off at night but that wasn't a big deal. The staff is friendly and the concierges we very helpful. I had multiple questions to ask and they patiently gave me great advice. The restaurants, Bank and Quilon, were superb! The location was great so there was no complaints there. Overall, I would recommend this hotel to anyone who asks.

The Crowne Plaza St. James is a perfect location to see all the sites in London. The hotel is an easy walk to the Tube, Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, The London Eye, Big Ben and Parliament. Upon arriving we were placed in a tired room, after explaining politely our displeasure, the hotel upgraded us into a small suite. The staff was most attentive and the concierge staff were quite helpful. They even registered us for our departing flight. The hotel rooms are smaller by US standards and the halls and furniture are in the process of being updated. However, one has to be realistic when traveling abroad. This hotel is old; however, because of its location and the service, I would definitely stay here again!

The location was perfect for us as we were visiting out son who was studying in London for the semester. His residence (Vandon House Hotel) was across the street. We felt that the staff, mainly the doormen weren't accomodating and questioned our son for the reason he was in the hotel when he would come to our room. We were on vacation so we didn't dress in business clothes and therefore they didn't assist with luggage or opening doors whenever we entered or exited the hotel as we saw them do for others. I mean we did pay for staying 7 nights afterall. Other than that it was fine.

Curate's Egg!Great location, fabulous and reasonably priced food at Bank restaurant. Room okay size, but small bed and tatty bathroom. Air con not working, ditto extractor fan (hotel must have known about these). Breakfast £22! Outrageous, when there is a great Italian cafe over the road offering a nice breakfast for £4! Lovely location and friendly staff, but need to upgrade rooms.

My wife & I arrived in London fabout 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 15, 2008, for a weekend stay at the Crowne Plaza St. James, prior to departing for a British Isle cruise on the 18th. Booking through Travelocity the daily room rates were about 1/2 of what the cost was at the same hotel using the cruise line booking service. Using Dot-To-Dot for transport from the airport to the hotel, upon arrival at the hotel ,check in went smoothly. All hotel staff were friendly/helpful. The room (though small by U.S. standards) was more than adequate for me and my wife. We had a great view of the hotel's plaza area (and the windows opened to let in air if needed; and, there was AC, if needed). The bathroom/tub/shower area was large, with plenty of towels and accessories. While we did not use the hotel's dining or bar facilities (we dined and drank elsewhere), they were nice. And the hotel's outside plaza area for dining or drinking were great. Lots of greenery/fountains/etc. As for eating and drinking, there were a number of pubs and eating establishments within a short walking distance of the hotel. For example, the small cafe across the street from the hotel served a great "English" breakfast at a very reasonable price. And the corner pub on the right hand side down aways from Buckingham Palace served GREAT fish & chips (and ale). The only draw back (and it is a minor one, for me) was that my wife noticed that the room cleaning staff did not replace the used glasses and coffee cups in the room. At best, they were rinsed and wiped then returned to their former location. (A minor point -- but worth noting!) Bottom Line: GREAT location. Comfortable accomadations. Would use again!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Crown Plaza-St. James. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was quiet, clean and comfortable. The location cannot be beat, close to the tube station and walking distance to the West End, Westminster Abbey and Buckingham Palace. We would stay there again without hesitation.

Excellent ValueHad to be in London so booked via laterooms very late. Hotel offered to upgrade us for £30 but when we said we would check out what we had booked first the kind lady upgraded us anyway. Excellent room (smoking which we wanted) with ensuite and spare storage room/space which we didn't need. View not very good but excellent location and would happily stay there again and in the same room. Slight issue was having asked for a later checkout (2pm) which was freely offered we were disturbed despite do not disurb sign being on door. Was not very funny the 3rd time! However enjoyed our stay and the strolls through the park.

The lobby was beautiful. Our safe andTV in our room did not work. We had a horrible experience at this hotel. We were upgraded to a suite which we were excited about. We arrived in the room and it's huge,, however everything seems really out of date. The safe and the television did not work when we arrived and the next day there was a church service going on outside our window which woke us up early. On the flip side, the bed was the most comfortable bedI had slept on throughout or trip and was very centrally located for touristy sites.

While the glitz was there, there was no GLAMOUR! False advertising in ad. No US power in room. High speed internet ,yes, but a very high priced unadvertised extra fee. Hot water not always available. Hotel needs maintenance.

I booked this hotel on the strenght of the previous reviews and have to be truthful and say i was a little disappointed! I choose to say here to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary and personal feel that he hotel was okay but nothing amazing! No one seem to highlight that there hotel is built above an underground line (tube start by 6am!!) which meant our room vibrated and whilst it only last a few seconds, its quite frequent!Location was great but getting around London is pretty easy so whilst its a positive, its not the be all and end all.

The reception area was nice, concierge services were more than adequate, room was clean. Room was in terrible need of an update was not up to Crowne Plaza standards. With so many hotels in London, I would not recommend the one. The rooms and bathrooms were in dire need of updating. It was very clean and I enjoyed the setting but this room was not of the the quality I expected.

We came for business but this trip felt like a honeymoon in many ways. Our first trip to London and we fell in love with the city and it's people. The Crowne Plaza St. James was within walking distance to the pubs, several theatres, the bus station and Westminster Cathedral. The staff were wonderful, especially p, one of the bellmen! We enjoyed dinner at the on- site restaurant so much that we had several meals there. Our polish waitress was charming and so helpful. Every evening there was an excellent live musician playing in the lobby. We changed rooms mid stream and most enjoyed the rooms looking over the court yard area...I opened windows every night and we slept in cool comfort. We had a near disaster as the pillows brought from home were mistakenly taken by housekeeping. The hotel manager somehow found our beloved pillows and returned them the next morning! We loved the Crowne Plaza and look forward to a return trip.
