Date of Stay: July, 2009

The courteous front desk staff were professionally dressed and checked us in efficiently. We arrived on a pretty warm day, and our room was pleasantly cool as we opened the door. The decor is fresh and attractive. The beds were comfortable and were piled high with fluffy pillows. There was a beautiful sheer fabric gift bag on the bed, holding ear plugs, an eye mask, and lavender linen spray. There were really special soaps and shampoos, conditioner, and mouthwash. There is free Internet service. There was a fridge, microwave and coffee pot. The room service breakfast menu was very reasonable, compared to most other hotels. We had to leave too early to use it, but maybe next time. We definitely will stay here again. We ate dinner in the serene dining room. The waiter was very attentive and the food fairly priced and delicious. I had the mixed greens salad with toasted Oregon hazelnuts, berries, and grilled chicken. My companion had one of that night's specials, a Cajun spiced sirloin steak over saute 'd vegetables, with steamed potatoes. Both meals were especially good. The hotel was located within walking distance of the MAX. Although I have read some comments about the parking being limited, we found that if you drive by the side of the hotel, past the rental cars, and around to the back, there was plentiful, safe, and well lighted parking. Even though the parking was $10, all in all it was a real bargain. We walked through the ballroom area and it all looks completely renovated. It is a beautiful hotel and I would recommend it to anyone.

Curtain clamp was nice. Staff was not helpful. We got to the room and the wastebasket had not been emptied by housekeeping and was full of used pantyhose and candy wrappers. We were charged $10 to park, but no one told us there was a parade on the Sunday we were there and we were unable to get our car out all morning, would have been nice if the staff gave us a heads up.

The staff was great, very helpfull and courteous. However, the first room we got had a view to the garbage dump. The second room had a better view, but the window had a 2" gap so cold air blew in constantly and where the window meets the wall there was obvious water damage. Not repaired. The facility in general was very basic. The hotel was doing major repairs on 3rd and 4th floor and the working staff used same elevators as guests, dragging tools and dust powder. I've had better luck using online travel website before, so may be my expectations were set too high.

The front desk at check in was not friendly, and unconcerned that parking might not be available (although I was paying a * parking fee). The room was not clean--neither the main room nor the bathroom. The carpet was very soiled, as was the sofa. There was a spot on the wall by the bed that looked like fecal matter. There was a lot of dust on the carpet where the floor met the walls. The bedspread had a cigarette burn. The bathroom sink was chipped and stained; the bathtub had chips around the soap dish, and it looked like mildew on the shower curtain.

This hotel is located very conveniently ? close to I-5 and close to the downtown. On the downside of it, the rooms are shabby and not super clean ? especially bathrooms. But the worst of it was that the hotel rooms are divided by single doors and you can hear everything going on in the rooms to your left and right ? literally everything. Our neighbors were having a party (which is pretty natural thing for people to do on the 4th of July) and it felt almost like they have it in our room ? we could hear them louder than our TV :-(

Driving up to the hotel, I was a bit nervous. It's an older building in a non-touristy part of town and I had read mixed reviews. However, inside, the lobby area was nice. The front desk service was friendly and efficient. The rooms were well-kept and comfortable. The beds were extra comfortable with lots of good pillows, making a restful night's sleep possible. We appreciated having a microwave and refrigerator in our room. Great hotel for the price! Probably not for someone without a car to get around in...I wouldn't feel comfortable walking around the neighborhood at night (older, somewhat industrial feel to the neighborhood), but we had absolutely no problems. It's just a quick drive (5 minutes or so) to get downtown (though one probably could walk, I wouldn't recommend it). The one downside to our visit: the hotel restaurant service seemed understaffed. The person who seated us (who was also the waiter and the busser) didn't offer to bring water/coffee at first and when he finally did, he left the empty water pitcher and coffee carafe at our table (would have been nice had he filled them up before leaving them with us). We were trying to split the check at the end of our meal and it took a very long time (about 20 minutes) for him to get it all figured out. The food was very good, though, and the hassle we had was not really a big deal for us, as we weren't in a huge hurry. All in all, a great hotel for a great price. Would stay there again!

Great front desk people, nice room, newly updated. Some of the new gadgets did not work. This hotel has been many different names in the 30 years I have lived in Portland. The current owners have got it right this time and I am sure it will soon be a popular Portland Hotel.

The hotel was beautiful and clean; very modern. We were urged not to stay here as it was not a "good" part of town. I felt very safe, the staff was very friendly and courteous. The pool and fitness area were top notch! Plenty of towels. This was a very clean and nice place to stay. And with my Orbitz discount I will definitely stay agian!

Almost everything was exceptional. Great experience! Our shower didn't work - we only had a bathtub. Beautiful hotel and room. We had a wonderful time. We were there during the famous Rose Parade, and the hotel even placed chairs out for viewing the parade. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We just didn't like that our room didn't have a shower. When we mentioned to staff that it wasn't working, they didn't even come and check it.

Crowne Plaza Downtown Portland, OR. Outside look dark at night, it's in downtown but not exact in the heart of downtown. For our experience in this hotel, there was an unimpression since the first step we were there. The front desk was impolite with his big belch but no apologize. We got there late night so tired but had to wait him to set up his computer.The room was clean, but the alarm clock did not work.In the morning, we asked a woman in front desk to change it. At night, we came back to the room and it was not set up at all. We called front desk but got an answer that we had to talk to a house keeper. What was front desk doing? Telling guests to talk to somebody in the hotel for things that guests want. What's more, alarm clock was the same one. In the morning, we left a compliant letter for general manager of hotel with front desk. At night when we came back to the room but no any response from general manger. The room was set up, but left a pillow case on the floor. We took that pillow case to front desk.What we got was laughing that house keeper forgot it. Is this a chain hotel that has a standard? We were there for a vacation, we had never thought it would be a terrible vacation because of the hotel, but it was. I would recommend to not choose this hotel to stay.
