What are your breakfast options?

For B&B Guests breakfast is included in the price quoted. For self catering guests they have the option of ordering breakfast for an additional fee of ZAR70 per breakfast. Breakfast is served from 7-9 am and the options are – Full English, Continental, and 3 different omelets. But we are flexible. We take breakfast order the night before as we cook the breakfast.

Where can we dine?

Crooked Tree Cottage offers breakfast only, but we do have take away delivery menus for those who prefer to eat in. There are actually so many restaurants in our area that you are spoiled for choice, from Curry to Sushi. An average meal out for one three courses can be anywhere from ZAR100-300.

Have you renovated recently?

We constantly renovate or maintain the property, we have just installed a brand new shower in Room 1 and have repainted Rooms 1 and 3. All the sundecks have been refinished. We have also installed safes in all suites. We have installed CCVTV on the property for the safety of our guests. We are about to install 2 rain water tanks for garden and pool use, in order to save water. We are also environmentally aware of the need to recycle and all paper, plastic, glass and metal is recycled.

What traveller type is most suited?

Our main visitors are Business travelers in low season and Holiday travelers in High season and weekends. But we are ideally situated for all types of visitors as we are close to the airport (15 min drive), we are close to the beach, close to Shops and businesses, and close to 2 main highways. We welcome all guests types and have a family suite perfectly suited for small families with babies – Room 4. The cottage suites are let out individually on a B&B basis or the entire cottage can be booked out on self catering basis to a group of 1-6 guests.

What transport is available to get around?

Hiring a car is the best option to get around as public transport is not readily available in the area. But for those who do not plan to go far, the beach is 10-15 min walk and Gateway Shopping centre is 30 min walk. If you are not a walker then there are many shuttle companies that will transport you to any destination for a fee of around ZAR10 per kilometer – the rates can be negotiated if you plan to use them regularly. But I am also quite happy to transport guests to either Gateway or the beach at no charge if I am going that way.

What can I do nearby?

Gateway Shopping Centre is full to bursting with activities, like cinemas, theater, ten pin bowling, games area, small fun fare, miniature soccer, conferencing, wave house, skate park and a science centre. There are also many other activities organized for holiday or weekends. The beach is 10-15 min walk, and there are a couple of small green belts where organized walks can be arranged. The Sharks Board is also nearby and they do offer boat trips to the sharks nets on a daily basis from Durban Harbour. Ushaka Marine world is a day trip worth taking, it has a first class aquarium and a water world for the entire family. It has the added advantage of being on the beach and has a lovely restaurant and shopping centre.

As a family, what are the best things to do?

The beach is the best activity for families on a sunny day, and as indicated, Gateway offers all the rest on those less sunny days.

Do you have internet?

Internet access is available and free on a wireless adsl(broadband) connection. There is coverage on the entire property.

Do you provide parking?

We have secure off street parking included in the room rate, you are supplied with a gate remote.
