Excellent Quayside LocationExcellent location along the Quayside with the centre close by and plenty of bars and restaurants within walking distance. Made good use of the gym, pool and sauna, although the guy ploughing up and down the narrow pool was a bit annoying. He somehow felt he had to give everybody a running commentary on how many lengths he had done - there's always one isn't there. The Irish Sea rarely gets that choppy !Room nice and clean and spacious. Would definitely stay there again and hope the long distance swimmer wasn't.

Bed a little small-room slightly stuffy with the air co-you cant open any windows for fresh air. But we enjoyed our stay-great location and the Orchid chinese restaurant opposite the hotel is out of this world-we will be back.

overall disappointingMy main gripes were a lack of wifi in the rooms (only available on the 'executive floor') which is incredible in 2009 and air conditioning that was noisy but ineffective which meant that I slept under a towel. The towels were suspect ie I'm not sure they'd been laundered and the toilet was not cleaned when they serviced my room. There was no room service menu and when I phoned up 5 minutes before the cut off for hot food I was offered a choice of 3 types of sandwiches. The staff were very friendly and helpful. If I'd have been paying full price for this hotel at £160 per night I'd have been very fed up with the lack of facilities - Malmaison is just down the road. You have to pay for parking which is unusual and having stayed in a Premier Inn the night before the difference is only minimal with a large difference in price. It has the feeling of an old hotel on it's last legs.

Good location, Food was good value, 10 pounds for starter main course and glass of wine .

Ideally located with all rooms looking onto the Tyne, but close enough to walk to the heart of the city in only a few minutes. On site parking very reasonable, so whilst this hotel appears secluded it is very accessible. Excellent spacious room was very clean. Even though there were apparently 6 "stag " groups in that night we never heard any noise - only the nearby Metro bridge occassionly from 0700 a.m.

Night outThe hotel is ideally situated for the Quayside bars and restaraunts as well as the nightlife.....little too far from shops and Bigg market but only short taxi hop.....food good, service great...good view over the Tyne...only down side was noise from Metro trains

Stunning hotel with great views and outlooks from bedrooms. Well placed along quayside for easy access to the city. 2 weddings taking place over 2 days meant a small amount of noise into the night but nothing unable to cope with. Breakfasts vastly overpriced so ate at quayside cafes nearby.

Father Daughter Bonding WeekendI had found great difficulty finding a hotel in Newcastle as there was an important game on at St James Park!!! Our room was ready by 10:30 we had a short wait whilst housekeeping sorted things. The receptionist was fantastic making sure we were both looked after (coffee/chocolate muffins). Our breakfast was fantastic quoissants toast fruit all really nice and fresh!

hotel reviewbooking hadn't come thro' from late rooms, although wasn't a problem and we were given an enormous suite for the same price, overlooking the river, fabulous room proportions, although very dated decor and interior. foyer and corridor areas were also very dated and resembled a Civic Centre

Good value and central to town - will stay againRoom large and overlooked the Tyne, all facilities fine. Good shower etc. Ate continental breakfast - very pleasant. Parking was £5 for overnight stay & v secure on top of hotel. Staff very helpful on check in/out. We are used to 4 and 5 star hotels, and for £105 double exc breakfast, it was good value. Its on the north side of the river, well recommended. Enjoy!

I received an upgrade to a suite, so value (and view) were very good, even if car park and breakfast are extra. Staff friendly and helpful. The room was starting to show it's age with scratches on the wood furniture, although it was spacious. Minor gripes: the TV remote didn't work; the tea/coffee making equipment was nowhere near a plug socket and the lead for the kettle was too short for the only plug socket available, so it was a crawling on you hands and knees job with the kettle on the floor! Also the mini bar was empty, which is probably not a bad thing. In Newcastle the prices go up at the weekend as its a party city with lots of stag do's and an influx from Ireland. I hope you like your hotel bar lively at night.

In Need of refurbishmentThought I would give this hotel a try rather than the Malmaison I normally stay in when I am in Newcastle, bit of a mistake the main lobby and bar areas are fine but the rooms are in dire need of refurbishment to bring them up to an alleged 4 Star rating. The only plus is parking on site and the friendly staff.

It was a bit old fashioned and we have stayed in better, eaten better quality for a cheaper priceThe rooms seemed a little old fashioned. the shower was reasonable and nothing was bad but for the price places like travel lodges do a better deal. the drinks were expensive and the breakfast was not that nice and we wished we had had something on the motorway. yes you can walk into town and it was near our venue - the arena so the walk there was suitable but we are unlikely to stay there or another in thier chain again. it was not a bad experience but we have stayed in much better and eaten better in more affordable places.

Copthorne review - Feb 09The hotel was lovely & clean with good food. The hotel was fairly central for the pubs & the Metro Arena is only a 15 minutes walk away. The staff were freindly and helpful. The leisure facilities were clean and not that busy. Overall it was an enjoyable and relaxing stay.

excellent, one of the best hotels i have stayed in, the only reason i say 4 to VFM was cos it was 160 squid for 1 night, 140 would have been much better value, although we had a really nice room. One piece of feedback, the staff were awesome, very friendly, but the neighbouring room had their TV on very loud all night and i only got a couple of hours sleep, i didnt mention this to the staff because i was that pleased with the service, especially on reception and in the bar. I will stay there again, definitely.

The hotel is looking tired. The room needed refurbishment especially the bathroom. The web information indicated free soft drinks and bathrobe but neither were there.the good part was the view from the room across the river
