Jekyll Island, Georgia, United States
Description:

Description:
Nestled in a natural setting of a barrier island off the Georgia coast, the Jekyll Island Club opened in 1888 as a hunting retreat for America's wealthiest families. Here, millionaires such as the Rockefellers, Vanderbilts, J.P. Morgan and the Astors wintered in seclusion until the onset of World War II. Subsequently abandoned, it was meticulously restored in 1986, and returned to its original elegance, from the lofty towers to the encircling verandas. Now a world class resort for your next vacation, getaway, retreat or meeting. A landmark to experience

This was a prelude to a visit with family. It was the perfect place to relax and get reaquainted. Although we didn't golf, the course was beautiful. The dining room was first class as was the menu and the staff. Don't miss the beach while you're there, and the porch becons you to sit and sip a mint julep while watching the sunset. We hated to leave; an accidental find that became a favorite travel memory.

We've been here several times and have always enjoyed our stays. They were renovating, painting etc. and the smell of paint was strong, no pictures in room. Cell phone did not work. They should let people know in advance that cell phones don't work there. My husband had unimportant conference call (overseas) so we had to leave the Island in order for him to participate in it.

Our original plans were to stay only 3 days and we had so much fun that we extended our stay another 3 days. The rooms are comfortable and bright and cool. Room service is excellent with delivery and removal of trays in a timely manner. The pool is excellent and the bar/grill area are also excellent. The bartenders at the pool are excellent. They are quick in preparing your food along with any drinks that you may have. The bell hops are kind, courteous and quick with loading all the clothing and suitcases that you brought with you. Having dinner in the grand dining room is an excellent treat. The breakfast buffet is excellent and more than enough to hold anyone all day long. Dinner is exquisite with the accompaniment of the piano player. The wait staff does an excellent job with their knowledge of the menus. Sitting on the veranda or the courtyard late at night having a quiet drink and talking is an exceelent way to end any evening. The Cafe Soltarra is a great place for young families with younger kids. They serve cereal, bagels or yogurt for breakfast. Their lunch menu includes soups, salads, sandwiches, wraps, pizza. Ice Cream or Key Lime Pie is the perfect way to end an evening. We having been going to the Jekyll Island Club Hotel for the past 5 years and will continue to go there.

My husband and I stayed at the Club Hotel for our 25th Anniversary! It was so romantic! We took a carriage ride through the village, which every couple should do. I've never seen a more beautiful place at sunset. We love Jekyll.

I enjoyed Jekyll Island as an escape from the normal overly developed beach communities. It was as if you stepped back in time with all the modern amenities. In our room we had a seating area and a very comfortable bed. We rode bikes, took a tour, visited the Sea Turtle rescue center, walked on the beach, saw sunrises over the ocean and sunsets on the intercostal waterway. Also, since you are captured at the club, there many dining options.....and we took advantage of all of them. Our favorite was the Rah Bar eating fresh caught shrimp, oysters on the half shell and drinking cold beer. We look forward to our next visit.

Beautiful setting, close to everything, loved the Cafe. They painted our door while we were inside and didn't tell us. Loud housekeeping made it hard for my son to nap. Great hotel, we would go back for sure. It was pricey but worth it when we saw the other hotels in the area. Make sure you check out the Sea Turtle Rescue located behind the parking lot, it is fantastic!

This place has wonderful grounds but the rooms are old and over priced. I understand that this is a historic hotel but the decor of the rooms are plain and my wife and I would have rather stayed at a Hilton or Westin for the money we paid for this place. And the food is way over priced for the area!

The Jekyll Island Club was a great destination and we loved it. Great room, great staff, food on an excellent Island with lots of things to do.

The location was good. Rooms too small for the price charged. Nice, but overpriced. Staff was courteous, but not friendly. Rooms too small for the furniture included and extremely crowded for the advertised number of occupants.

My husband and I were married at Crane Cottage. We fell in love with Jekyll Island the first time we visited. We have been back fro 2 years for our anniversary.

We arrived earlier than expected (noon), we went to check in and was advised our room wasn't ready. The front desk clerk took our cell # and said they would call when our room was ready. We went and had Brunch in the Ball Room. After brunch we went back to the front desk and was told our room still wasn't ready. We then went to the sea turtle exibit. Once again when we came back to the front desk our room stil wasn't ready. So we walked around the shops. At about 4pm we went back and our room was finally ready (still no call from the desk clerk that it was!)

Very clean and well kept grounds, pool very clean ,nice staff. Not enough staff (bellboys very busy, not enough of them) We liked Jekyll island club hotel, right in historic district, close to everything, meals a little too expensive for me, overall excellent stay.
