I like staying in non-chain hotels when possible, but this one was just not kept up. The upsides were free wireless internet and hot breakfast. The staff (one recpetionist) was not terribly friendly when I checked in. The rooms are very dated and not very well maintained. For the price, it was okay, but I will try another hotel in the area if I return.

People were very friendly. It was old and grungy and the food was terrible. This hotel is in need of a makeover, the food is touted as one of the best places to eat in Rockford, poor Rockford. We opened the window to air out our ground floor room and had to be moved because apparently that invites a huge ant infestation. The furniture is cracked and the wall paper is peeling to go with the smell.

Nice 3-star stay for a decent price after discount (we booked day before stay). No view from the "river view" room due to overgrown trees that need to be thinned. Staff was minimal but nice. Hotel appears to have been better once, but is still ok. Be sure to get your breakfast vouchers when you check in. Breakfast buffet was ok but simple, and if you don't have your voucher, expensive. They were cordial about correcting our missing voucher situation after presenting us with a big bill for a few bagles. Tables were set with nice napkins etc. and staff was there to pour coffee and take orders from the menu if more than the buffet was wanted. We stayed here to attend the Chicago Air Show. The one hour drive into Chicago was easy from here on a Saturday morning.

This was a half way point in our trip home. Arrived at around 4:30pm. Check in agent was very stressed and not nice. However at checkout we had a great person. The whole hotel including rooms and grounds was probably beautiful 20 years ago. Funny smells came from everywhere (stairs, elevators, rooms, halls) musty. By the way it was advertised we expected much nicer place. Our room was clean from what I could tell, was too dark to notice much. The whole hotel was dark. Claimed to be a riverview room....not...could not even see the river from either room due to the huge tree, so what we did see was grounds with A LOT of weeds. Furniture was very worn and not comfortable. The bed was fine though.

The antiques. Very dark and dreary. The hotel did not live up to the expectations.

We were really happy with our stay. The rooms exceeded expectations and the river views are really nice. To often hotels in city's like Rockford lack character and are the same old generic "hotel by the interstate". The Lexington was different and alot of attention had been paid to details, both in the hotel and in the staff. The bar, Cliffbreakers, is also very nice with a magnificent deck that overlooks the Rock River and the bridge. An unexpectedly nice view and a great amenity.

The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful, but the elevator didn't always work, there were stains in the carpet, the chair in the room smelled, and the bathroom had electrical problems.I also had trouble getting the thermostat to work correctly. This was not the luxury experience I was expecting.

The front desk staff was unfriendly and did not provide a hotel map or explain any ammenitites such as breakfast buffet, restaurant, and pool. No information was provided in the room either. Once we found the breakfast buffet we found that the food was the worst we have ever tasted and the one waiter for the whole dining room could not keep plates, glasses, and coffee available for the guests. The room was okay but the beds were uncomfortable and the bathroom was never properly stocked with towels. We had four people and they would only stock for one or two. The first day the pool was locked all day because they forgot to unlock it and we had to track down a staff person to unlock it the second day. The pool area was unclean and dead bugs floated from the bottom of the pool to the top while we were swimming. A door that should have been unlocked to the pool deck was locked and trapped two family members outside until they climbed a privacy fence to the parking lot and entered through the front door. There is only one elevator and you had to take the stairs during the times that the cleaning staff was moving their carts from one floor to another. There was no express check-out available and there was a long line to check out with only one staff person at the desk. I called the desk for a wake up call and never got it the next morning. Overall I got the impression that noone cares and it just wasn't a nice place to stay. Skip this one if you are going to Rockford.

I was in the middle of a trip and needed a place to stay that was business friendly and comfortable. Not only was the internet connection trouble-free, the room was spacious and quiet. The hotel has a beautiful view of the river and the hot breakfast buffet was welcome change from the continental breakfasts served at other hotels.

The motel was very well maintained and the room was large and comfortable. The location isn't the best but the view over the Rock River was inviting. The breakfasts were excellent and I would stay there again. A variety of restaurants were close to the motel.

Our extended family spent a weekend at Cliffbreakers and came away very impressed. The hotel space is very cool and unique with priceless antiques, sculptures, antique furnishings and more. It's not at all your typical hotel, which made the stay even nicer. Our room was a two story room with two full bathrooms and was very large and comfortable, with a view of the river (see further below for more about the river/views). If you're a high roller, check out one of their great themed rooms, such as the Sultan room, decked out with antique furnishings fitting the theme. The restaurants, bars and banquet spaces were equally as unique and have a wonderful ambiance. Each meal we had was fantastic, service was good and the food was reasonably priced. The Sunday brunch is a MUST!!! It was one of the best brunches I have ever had, endless selections of breakfast food, lunch food and deserts and each was better than the last. You have to try the Eggs Florentine and Eggs Benedict with homemade hollandaise sauce. The hotel sits on top of the bluff overlooking the river and has amazing views. There are nice decks that stretch along the backside of the hotel so you can enjoy the views while having a nice cocktail or dinner. In addition, if you cross the river there is a nice playground (for the kids) and a nice running/bike path that goes for miles along the river. You can even rent bikes at Cliffbreakers for a ride along the path. I highly recommend Cliffbreakers!

We had a fantastic experience staying at Cliffbreakers this past weekend. This hotel trumps any chain hotel by a long shot with such great history and unique character that you just don't find at ordinary hotels...much less all in one place anywhere! We were lucky to be given a tour to learn the history behind all the interesting antiques and special one-of-a-kind pieces that were carefully selected from all over the World, and tastefully arranged in the hotel. We enjoyed having nice cocktails in the fancy Martini Lounge, and then casual beers in the Tap Room, before feasting on an amazing dinner in the restaurant. We met the new Chef, Philipe, who came out to speak with guests to be sure that everyone loved their meals. We certainly loved every bite of it...as well as the service and ambiance! It was nice to enjoy fine dining cuisine at very reasonable prices. Unlike most restaurants of this caliber, we did not leave hungry and have to go to get fast food to fill us up afterwards! Our room was large and decor tasteful, views were great, and bed was very comfy! We made the great decision to stay for the champagne brunch on Sunday. We were amazed at how much food there was...great selection of breakfast and lunch/dinner entrees, and not just your typical stuff! VERY GOOD...and very inexpensive for that kind of spread, including mimosas! We got a peek of a few wedding receptions taking place on Saturday night...and boy did I wish my wedding reception had been there...beautiful chandeliers and set-up from head-to-toe! Service and friendliness of the staff was impeccable the entire stay, and we enjoyed every bit of our stay. We would not hesitate to re-visit and recommend Cliffbreakers to our friends and family!

We stayed at Cliff Breakers and had a wonderful time! The rooms are huge - we even had an upstairs plus a fireplace. The room overlooked the Rock River which made for a spectacular view. To top off the weekend, the hotel's restaurant offered a spectacular champagne brunch on Sunday! If you plan to visit Rockford, you need to stay and eat at Cliff Breakers.

Our experience at Cliffbreakers was wonderful - from the ambience to the rooms to the food. They have lots of beautiful antiques which gives the hotel a European feel. Many of the rooms are also unique - ours was 2-levels with lots of space and beautiful views of the river. The meals were delicious and had a gourmet flare. The Sunday brunch is not to be missed.

We had a great stay at Cliffbreakers resort. The rooms were large with a great view overlooking the Rock River. The staff was courteous and happy to meet the needs of our large group. We had sveral small children in our group. The food in the restaurant was fantastic and the Sunday brunch was great. Nice location with adjacent park and 5+ miles running/biking path. A+

Though only a dozen years open, the antiques used throughout make this a very charming stay with a feel of European grandeur. The meals were well prepared and presented. We will be staying again.

My girlfriend and I stayed at Cliffbreakers and had a wonderful time. We had a fantastic room with a view of the river. We were fortunate enough to get upgraded to one of the specialty suites which was really great ? decked out in fantastic antiques. The hotel was beautiful. We were not guests in the ballrooms but did get a peek into a few of the doors of some of the ballrooms. Wow! We also enjoyed a spectacular dinner in Cliffbreakers? river view restaurant. The specials were very enticing; however, we opted for the Friday Seafood Extravaganza. The food and service were absolutely perfect. We?ll definitely be back and would encourage friends and family to stay there if they had the occasion to be in Rockford.

My company booked me in this hotel for week long business meetings and I absolutely loved the experience!! The restaurant is out of this world delicious. I no desire to eat anywhere else after eating at the hotel?s restaurant that first night; the food was mouth watering. My recommendation, try the Tortellini Chicken Cardinale ? I fell in love with that dish! The Black Soy Sea Scallops were also mouth watering! The hotel staff was all very courteous; they said hello when I passed them in the hall and lobby. One staff member gave me a little history lesson on the hotel, which I enjoyed tremendously. The room was very nice, clean and quiet and the bathroom was huge and quite beautiful! I had a beautiful view overlooking the Rock River. I also enjoyed the fact that I could use my wireless connection on my laptop everywhere I went in the hotel; I had a lot of work to do while I was there. The hotel has an old world charm to it with beautiful antiques all around. The furniture in the room had a beautiful charm; it looked like it was all hand-crafted. The bed was gorgeous! I travel a lot and it?s very rare to see such beautifully crafted furniture in hotels. Overall I enjoyed my stay tremendously and the next time I?m in town I will certainly stay here again!
