The hotel was great for location to USC which we were there for orientation. The only problems we had were that we reserved a NON SMOKING room and were first given a smoking. Then the second day when we got home our card key did not work. They had de-activated. Lastly, (which I will call orbitz about) when we received the check-out bill it was for less than what ORBITZ had previously charged my credit card. When questioned the hotel - they said that this was the correct ORBTIZ rate.

The staff was helpful . It did not have a gift store, and didn't have a comb or brush. Everyone was very nice, and it was clean. The furniture was worn and lamps were missing light bulbs.

Granted the only reason we stayed @ this hotel was because it was the only one available within the time we needed. We were worried about staying there due to a few other reviews listed but we had no choice. They were right, we did not feel secure & this hotel needs major cleaning & renovations! From the horrible watermelon smell sprayed throughout the room (sure to cover what it really smelled like), wallpaper pealing off, the bed was horribly uncomfortable hard as a rock, bathroom esp the shower could use come comet, water went from a drastic hot to cold, carpet was disgusting, pool nasty (even tho it was Feb, come on keep it clean), even the alarm clock needed cleaning. I ask if we could have a smoking room or @ least a suite, none were available yet there was cig stains everywhere in the room. Asked if there was a conference, they said no that legislators take over the hotel during the week. So beware they are some parting, loud people! Doesn't that make you feel great..We didn't actually eat in the restaurant, Carolyn's (I believe thats what it was called) but ordered room service. It was okay, certainly not worth the price. There is a great tapas restaurant we found down the street though. The staff @ the front desk was nice. We didn't want to gripe to them to much, I'll leave that for the email I'll send to Clarion corp website. You know, who is responsible for the upkeep of their hotel locations. I took many photo's but there's no way to post them on here. There is a reason that most of the photo's listed are mostly of the lobby etc.. So if you can, stay elsewhere..

I enjoyed the outside, appearance and business center expect printer out of toner. Thought front desk clerk was rude! Hotel rooms didn't smell fresh and TV was old and pic fuzzy! Overall I was very unhappy with this hotel. It was Valentines Day weekend and I understand that it was busy however that should be when the service should be that much better! When calling front desk they were not helpful or friendly, I was on business and not familiar with the area. Wanted to stay in and watch TV and relax and the TV was fuzzy, when called front desk clerk stated not hotel's problem and that it was cable that is understandable but the manner it was said. I was looking for better customer service from the hotel, not the normal for them.

Very nice, reasonable hotel just 2 blocks from USC campus. The room was large and the beds were SO comfy. The staff was very friendly, the room clean & quiet, the wireless internet worked great. Parking was easy and close to our building. The only thing we didn't like was that the room smelled a tad musty and damp if the A/C was off. But, hey, it's the humid south!

My stay at the Clarion reminded me of one of the Inn's down in Charleston's market district. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms were nice and spacious and the bed was luxurious! I had breakfast at Carolina's Restaurant which is located in the lobby of the hotel and the buffet offered so many items. It featured cold and hot items at a great price. Our meeting space was beautiful and the banquet service was impeccable! I look forward to hosting our next meeting at the Clarion Hotel Downtown in Columbia. Our staff comes in from three different states and they have already requested to return to the Clarion. Awesome!

We checked in on Sunday afternoon. My husband is 87 and has mobility problems. The handicapped entrance was closed off with someone painting the ceiling. He did not move and grudgingly agreed to let me pull in and then back out. Checkin was fine. All afternoon we heard a constant jackhammer. They were tearing up floors to put in new pipes, we were told. They said it would continue until 7PM, but it stopped a little after 5PM. The next morning there was a meager continental breakfast with no fruit juice, and we were charged $5.95 each for a muffin.

The room was spacious, decorate lovely and very clean. We were in the hotel section, and found that it surpassed our expectations.

This is what I would call a Hotel/Motel. Part of the Hotel is Hotel style, part is Motel (where you enter your room from outside). I wasn't thrilled about it because that is just not that safe to me and I don't recall being told in advance that I had to access my room from outside the Hotel. The hotel isn't really located by anything and you almost need a car to get to any shopping or dining (or expect to walk a mile or so). It seems kind of out of place as there are no other hotels or restaurant nearby. It is close enough to the University to walk and there was always a taxi sitting outside the Hotel on the weekends. Enterprise was about a half mile away and we just rented a car once we figured out we needed one. There is a shuttle service to the airport but it was not available on the Saturday we were there and not available before 9 on Sunday. Let them know ahead of time, a couple days at the least, if you need the shuttle for the airport. It was quiet at the hotel and the beds were comfortable. The air conditioner worked good but when we turned on the heat, it had an awful smell, like it plastic burning. The room was cleaned very well and when we requested extra coffed for the following morning, it was left for us.

Very nice hotel conveniently located to USC and the Vista. Very good staff. I would return and stay again.

Well-kept. Clarion hotel chains typically are pretty solid in terms of quality. Unfortunately, I would guess this one was refurbished from an older building or had been around a while. I am used to receiving more options in a Holiday Inn Express (which is star ranked lower). The high speed internet did not work. The warm water gets used up easily in the morning hours (my first day, it was not warm at all). Lastly, if you hope for a pay channel to be offered (HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, etc.) forget it, only straight, local cable with the typical minimum package. But, the price was less than anticipated and the rooms are well-kept. Still, a Holiday Inn Express or even a Days Inn can be out this hotel in my opinion.

Our daughter's wedding reception was held at this hotel and we found the staff helpful and courtesy. The food and service was excellent. Our suite was clean and spacious. There was ample parking. We were very pleased.

Restaurant food was adequate and well presented. Would have been nice to have the breakfast included in the fare. Good location, decent price, costly breakfast.

Hotel staff was great! the only room available, last minute, was smoking. It was an exterior room, so it was not too bad; had a smoky smell though. Very clean, bartenders and lunch buffet were fabulous. Will definitely stay again when i revisit columbia..

I didn't like anything about this hotel. The rooms smelled like strongly watermelon jolly ranchers. The beds were uncomfortable. The walls were thin& This hotel should really be called a motel. A good portion of the rooms are in a motel style annex building. The room smelled strongly of watermelon candy. The beds were hard and uncomfortable. The shower never stayed the same temperature fluctuating between extreme cold and extreme hot. The walls were thin. Overall it was awful.

Location was close to University of South Carolina. Could be cleaner - furniture in room was soiled. Pleasant enough for the money, convenient location. Room furniture somewhat shabby with wear and tear but the room was basically clean and the bed was good enough.

Close to university of south Carolina. Near restaurants. Rooms are old, dated. Tiles cracked. Bed spreads dirty. Too expensive for what is provided. Very dated. 70's style. Typical college town, low end hotel. Expected more upscale.
