The only reason I stayed in this hotel was to attend a conference. Hotel staff are friendly and helpful, but the room is relatively small and old. It's just not worth the money!

The historic architecture. Having to pay $25 to park at the hotel and $25 to use the facilities even though we were not going to use the facilities. The staff were less than pleasing upon check-in. We were placed in a tiny room overlooking the rooftop air conditioners and located between rooms of a wedding party that partied till very early Sunday morning, disallowing sleep. We were charged to park our car in their expansive parking lot and then also charged for using the tennis courts and pool even though we had no plans to use them.

This huge hotel was built in 1906. It has beautiful architecture and is located in a fun area of Berkeley. Great restaurants and shopping are a hilly, but not too long, walk away. There is a terrific health club with lots of tennis courts, outdoor swimming pool and good facilities. The rooms were large and comfortably furnished. It could be a little cleaner. The staff was generally very helpful. We were surprised when checking in, by a 24 dollar manditory fee for use of the health facilities and internet access. Orginally,we were told it was 24 dollars per day but we were only charged 24.00 once for a 3 night stay. There is a charge for parking which was expensive..The first 1/2 hour was free and then it was 4.00 per hour for anything longer. No allowance for being a hotel guest. We loved Berkeley and would consider going back to this hotel, now that we know how it works.

I stayed at the Claremont recently while visiting my son who attends Cal. The only thing that is 5***** about this hotel is the cost! I upgraded my room to a bay view. There was NO bay view. The room was similar to what you woud expect to find in a cheap motel! My son was charged 24 each time he came to visit me (for parking) I was charged 25 per day resort fee and 25 spa fee on check in! I was not aware of these charges when making the reservation! In addition, 25 each day to park my car. I sat is Jordan's (the restaurant) while my son had breakfast and did not eat. They still charged me 100, 50 per person for Sunday brunch. I don't mind paying if the quality is evident. It was not. I don't recommend unless you want a Travelodge at Ritz prices.

The overall experience was ok. The first room that we had was very large, but the view was of the garbage bin at the back of the hotel and we were awaken by garbage trucks early the next morning. The next room was smaller, it still did not have a nice view. I was disappointed because I specifically requested a room with a view and paid extra for it.

Atmosphere. Air conditioner blew directly onto the bed. Beautiful hotel in beautiful location. I would stay there again. I was caught off guard at checkout that a resort fee would be added. That was not told up front and really should just be in the price in the first place.

Location, facilities. There was a $24 parking fee and a $24 resort fee. Nice hotel, our room had a view of the bay and the Golden Gate Bridge. Great tennis courts, pools and gym facilities. We didn't use the restaurants but they looked nice. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Spacious room. Room smells stuffy. Old/dusty carpet smell. Parking is not free - or even just entering the premises to pick up somebody, horrible!

Nice pool, nice hotel, good service. Wall in the bathroom was cracked and the paint was coming off. The hotel is beautiful and great location, food is very good also. Great service. The resort fee and the parking fee are a bit high for guests.

Fitness room/ pool and spa facilities were the best I've ever experienced. Large fee for parking. Old and elegant. This hotel was rich in history and had a regal feel to it. The spa and fitness facilities make it a 5 star destination. The rooms were small, but the bathroom and television were very modern. The only caveat is the nearly $50/day in fees for parking and fitness and pool, the latter of which you pay whether you use the facilities or not. Overall, it was stunning hotel and a great experience.

cClassic elegance. This was a beautiful old hotel and the staff was wonderful and the environment was excellent. We would definitely go back.

The beds are surprisingly comfy. I like the old school charm; it's not modern, but it's an old, classic, bay area hotel. I like that kind of stuff. It's an old hotel; the room smelled musty and the bathroom floor was cold. It could use a mat.

I like the quieter area where this hotel was located. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who does not want to be downtown SFO. The view from their restaurant and most of the rooms I have stayed in were superb.

It was absolutely beautiful. The staff was very attentive to every need and the grounds were perfect. The room was very small.

The lobby furnishings. Convenience fees for complimentary services we did not use. Istayed at the holiday inn express the following night in mill valley.I was surprised to discover thatI actually preferred the holiday inn wasn't so different than a room at the Claremont.

Overall look and feel. My room was located under the restaurant and I never got any sleep.

Nothing except the location. Totally overrated 4 star resort. Low quality room and bad service.
