BEST ROOMS, GOOD FOOD, GREAT SERVICE, EXCELLENT STAFF... But a In-complete Hotel. This hotel rooms rate among the best in Kolkata. Well designed. Not very spacious though.... The PLUS PLUS PLUS PLUS point for this hotel is its AMAZING staff, highly professional and have the correct attitude. Lot of its facilities are not yet ready like the pool, healthclub, bars, night club etc..etc.. This will put you off....They claim to open them soon..

We were pleasantly surprised by our two nights stay at The Chrome Hotel in Kolkata. It is within walking distance to the main street, many restaurants, and the market. The room was spacious with a decent bathroom. The decor was Modern with printed wall paper designs which runs from the head board till the writing table. The electrically controlled blinds is a good change. The amenities were good and we thought the value was outstanding for the price we paid. Saw a welcome letter signed by the General Manager which says that they are going to add more facilities like the pool, bars, health club etc. This would be indeed a value add on for people like me who would like to spend some leisure time at the poolside. We didn't try the breakfast because of the number of restaurants around but the tables in the lobby courtyard/ restaurant near the reception counter looked very nice. The staff were all helpful and friendly. We would highly recommend staying at The Chrome Hotel in Kolkata.

I live in Frankfurt. I decided to check in to Chrome Hotel in Kolkata after been recommended by my brother who lives in Kolkata. My brother chose the hotel, as he had been to the hotel's restaurant and loved the food and service. The hotel is located right i the downtown. For your information - public transportation in Kolkata can't be the Best. But you would have hotel cars which I found to be expensive. So my brother arranged alternate transport for me to get around. I have had the good fortune to stay at some of the world's best and grandest hotels - the Chrome Hotel in Kolkata stands right up there with them. The staff is wonderful - they make it their business to know you and your likes immediately - we were greeted by name each time we came in or went out. The waiters in the dining room in the morning remembered after the first day that we do not eat breakfast but only drink coffee, so each morning as we walked in he had two cups of coffee ready for us - and remembered our room numbers. The rooms were lovely - well appointed - had all the amenities including slippers and terry-cloth bathrobes - and were scrupulously clean. One day my brother asked the concierge to suggest a wonderful restaurant so we could celebrate my birthday - and when we came back to the hotel at the end of the day to change clothes and go out - I came into my room to find a Cake and a note from the Manager wishing me a Happy Birthday. Incidentally, the restaurant the concierge suggested was spot-on - just the sort of place we would have chosen ourselves. But the highlight of the hotel was their own "destination" restaurant - the "Khanasutra" (Eventhough it resemble the Movie !!!!!! ). Seldom have we had such fabulous food - and I don't use that term lightly. Everything from the gazebo/ cubicle setting to the very knowledgeable waiters to the absolutely divine food and its presentation - there wasn't one misstep. And the icing on the cupcake? When we checked out at 5:30 in the morning to go to the airport - and the restaurant was not yet open - we found two cups of espresso waiting for us to speed us on our way. What else can I tell you? It was an absolutely grand experience at what is now my favorite hotel - and we are already planning to return next year.

We were a part of a large Group which was booked into this Hotel early July 2009. I think the total rooms occupied by our group were more than 50 and we stayed for almost a week. I was simply amazed by the way our Group was handled by the hotel team from check in through check out. Normally I have noticed that, when there is a big group, luggages might go missing/ transferred to a different rooms etc.. etc.. But here, everything was just perfect. I have done so many bookings in many hotels and was just trying to find fault with this hotel and I could not find any. As soon as our group arrived, our rooms were ready, we just had to sign in the card and we were shifted to our rooms. We got a refreshing Welcome drink upon arrival. The staff is just too helpful always. Rooms were Very very good and tastefuly decorated. I liked the color scheme in my room (# 407), but somehow did not like the Red color in some other rooms. The room 501 was just too perfect which has some sort of color lighting device.. Wow.. That was simply amazing. Very Modern Hotel. Strongly Recommend. Our Breakfast was extremely good and not monotonous like the normal Hotel breakfasts. We had a good variety of Juices, Fresh fruits etc. Another aspect which impressed me very much is the safety of the belongings of our family. Since it was more like a family gathering, people were careless in keeping valuables under lock and key always. But I was AMAZED at the end of the stay that NOT EVEN A SINGLE GUEST COMMENTED or REPORTED any loss of any items which is very unlikely in such a family get-togethers. I strongly Recommend this Hotel.

This is indeed a Amazing hotel with excellent decor and great service. The Food is simply great. I dined in their restaurant on the first floor. WOW.. what a experience... You are welcomed by professional service staff, smiling.. you get pampered with the first service of cold towels. Their menus are presented in Boxes which I found it very different and unique when compared to other hotels. The service members are just great. Food was well presented and tasted extremely good. I was booked into this hotel by the Park Hotel where I normally stay, since they are over booked or somesort. I agree CHROME was successful in shifting my loyalties to them. My preference shall be CHROME when ever I visit Kolkata.

CHROME is a refreshing change. I have stayed in the hotel from 18th to 22nd June 2009. The Customer service is Superb and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The Lobby is well designed and the room was modern. I was Totally amazed by their eye for detail observation on customer preferences. I prefer to have Fried Egg, overeasy for my Breakfast with Hashbrown potatoes - well done and without grilled tomatoes. I ordered the same dish on the first day and the next day onwards, I was amazed that the people remembered my preference without even being told. What amazed me more is that the Second day I was served by a totally new waiter and he was well aware of my preferences. The food here is marvelous and probably this is the ONLY hotel I stayed in India where I had all my meals from the hotel itself. Compared to my other stays in India, the only other hotel where I stayed and had similar SATISFYING experience was Umaid Bhavan Palace in Jodhpur, managed by the Taj Group. All the best for the CHROME team.

Judge for yourself I stayed in mid June 09 for 3 nights. - The hotel took full advance payment for 3 nights sighting me a s a new customer. This was a first for me. - Despite knowing that there is no hot water, at all in the bathrooms (hotel heaters spoilt) the check in staff fail to mention it. - The manager when informed about it simply say sorry and make no apology that the hotel takes money in advance, fails to inform guests that hot water is not available and fails to even put a notice to that effect. Clearly deceiving customers. So i ad cold showers morning and evening for 3 days despite having a cold. - The air-conditioning in the halls were not working (i think it was turned off to save money). So having a meeting in the lobby with customers and colleagues was not possible. - While the hotel building and rooms are good, the soft skills / service levels are of a 2 star hotel. From managers to serving staff, they have no clue about customer service. - no napkins are served at breakfast. No knives are available unless asked for. - despite positioning as a high end hotel, the internet service was not working and despite telling the management, they wait for third parties to do the repairs without any sense of emergency. - Room service food ordered was presented excellently but Paneer tikka and chicken tikka were both under cooked. The paneer was infact hardly put in the oven. Despite requests for lime & onions, none were served. - I had incoming urgent faxes (as internet was down) . When i enquired if faxes were received, they say the machine is not working prorperly. Then the story was changed to working properly - except it was not. I had to get the fax sent to my office and a peon got it to me and then sent it out again from a PCO booth. - The highlight was a great set lunch served. The chef had the meat and the lassi right, including biryanis. Alas, the restaurant has no washrooms - go to the lift, go to the lobby and then go to the toilets. In short, over hyped and over promised by the management. The GM and the staff have no clue about delivering on the hype. While it is promoted as a boutique hotel, service levels and understanding the concept from the GM down is non existent. Despite narrating the above to the GM, he thanks me for sharing with him, but considers no reduction in charges or compensation - further adding proof that the misinformation on the water etc was probably deliberate to begin with. A very poor show indeed and has all the lessons of how not to over promise and under deliver. Good luck to any visitors.
