It is very nicely located just across the red line subway station. Try to get there before nightfall, to be able to spot it easily.

Despite what is being said in some reviews, this hotel remains a good choice if you are staying there for conferences in McCormick place. The proximity to the conference venue and the CTA train station, combined with the very attractive pricing allow you ease when walking to the conference venue and taking the train to the shopping areas. Do not have too much expectations though - it is purely a place for rest to prepare for a new day. The wireless internet connection in the room is a pleasant surprise though.

I had to make last minute travel plans to Chicago for a job interview. I'm also a student, so I didn't want to break the bank. Chinatown fit the bill perfectly. The staff were very friendly and helpful. You shouldn't have any problems interacting with staff. They helped out whenever possible and did a respectable job. They also gave some good recommendations about where the best food in the neighborhood could be found. If you're a complete xenophobe you might have a problem but I honestly thought these people were great and did their job well. The room definitely won't be featured on any Travel Channel shows anytime soon but it was comfortable for my girlfriend and I. I was surprised that the bathroom amenities were as nice as they were. Brand new tile, nice toilet, and a piping hot shower with good pressure. We loved the Chinese language channels on the TV in our few down moments and while packing. The choice of paint job won't win any design awards but it won't affect you being able to sleep either. If your a priss and you need pomp and luxury you'd probably do best to take your pampered ego north to Michigan Ave. Location is what this hotel has in spades. It's right next to a red and green line station (Cermak-Chinatown), literally a 45 second walk from the front door. Late night eats abound in Chinatown. I traveled by train and it was very convenient to Union Station via Canal St. (taxi) or transit (red or green line). There's also a great jazz club just down the street, Velvet Room on Cermak. I'd recommend this hotel to any non-prissy traveler looking for a place to sleep in Chicago.

The hotel is good for a guy business traveler, especially for McCormick Center. Our Asian partners like the location because of bus travel to the casino and all the Chinese restaurants. Only a block away for bus pick up for McCormick and the Red Line subway to up town for shopping.

Excellent location, service, cleanliness and value for money.

"We decided to try the Chinatown Hotel, even though the reviews were mixed. We were pleasantly surprised. We had our four year old grandson with us, and Chinatown was a very interesting experience for him! The L was nearby, and so we were able to have easy access to the Shedd Aquarium, as well as Downtown. The rooms were small, but clean, and the service was very good."

You get what you pay for here- a cheap hotel at a cheap price. I stayed here during a 5 day conference at the McCormick Center. The rooms were very small, carpeting had stains throughout, scuff marks all over the walls, rusty metal closet doors, bed covers and blankets were stained- the sheets seemed clean enough. When sitting on the bed- the bed buckled and the headboard caved in on the bed. I had to push the bed tightly against the wall to keep the headboard from falling each and every time. The bathroom was fairly large and quite clean with tile floors & a clean tiled shower. No surface area to place toiletries. The towel rack fell apart when a hand towel was placed on it. The internet sporadically worked throughout the day. The immediate area within Chinatown is relatively safe- but a 5 minute walk east towards the McCormick center is definitely not a safe place to be at night. The nearby bus stop (bus 21) quickly takes you to the McCormick center for only $2.25, a cab is about $5.00. The bus or a cab is a much better alternative than trekking through a modest gauntlet of beggars, drunks and drug dealers (not as bad during the week) along the way. The staff was friendly but seemed to have constant computer problems (perhaps related to the sporadic internet connection). I recommend avoiding the free coffee altogether- both times it tasted old and burnt. No elevators. Not a problem for carry on bags but may be problematic for large luggage items to be carried up 3 floors on a narrow staircase.

This hotel is located just outside the city centre. As there is a station around the corner from the hotel (5 minutes) it makes access to the city centre very easy. The staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were comfortable and clean with all required facilities. There are plenty of restaurants in the vicinity. It is good value for money and the location is excellence. I would recommend the hotel as a place to stay and would use it if I was visiting Chicago again.

"Chinatown is filled with fantastic restaurants (cheap, too). Bubble tea!CTA station ~2 min away, but filled with homeless people begging for change.Hotel was fairly clean except for the blankets and pillows in all 3 rooms we booked. The throws and pillows were disturbingly dirty: greyish-beige-brown, stained with god knows what (urine, blood) -- I had to take them off the bed completely and only deal with white things (comforter, sheets). This is the only hotel that didn't charge for the extra people who stayed in our rooms. The public computer?s internet was not working."

This was so awful! I literally walked in, got my key, looked at the room, and left! Orbitz would not refund my money which I found to be extremely unprofessional. It's in a VERY unsafe area. Everyone from Chicago could not believe Orbitz even had this hotel on their site. I will no longer be using Orbitz.

"guy at front desk trying to calm customer who wanted out. Bad sign # 1. Got our keys, went up dirty stairs, dirty hallway, no elevator, to filthy rooms, dirty bed cover, worn out bed, tiny room, filthy carpet, dirty bathroom. Worst hotel i've ever been in. "

I didn't expect much at this price and didn't get it, but it works for someone looking for a cheap place to sleep in a convenient location. Just a couple blocks from the red line for convenient access to downtown and the airports. Walking distance to McCormick (20 minutes). Rooms are very small, no cable, cheap towels and linens, no iron or coffee in room, no elevator. Friendly staff and quiet location. If you can deal with roughing it a little bit, it beats paying 2 or 3 times as much to stay downtown in a posh property with all the amenities.

"This was a small dirty room, no hot water in 2 days, filthy curtains, floors, bed and walls. Worse than the worst places I stayed in mainland China. Middle of Chinatown but accosted by bums both days as I left hotel."

Look, you weren't expecting the Hilton at this price, were you? Prior reviews left me with fairly accurate expectations, but here are the details. Pluses: -Dirt cheap. -Very near red line El-station--easy to get downtown. -Decent neighborhood near McCormick Place (but the walk's about a half-mile, so bring comfortable shoes) -Good food in Chinatown. -Large room downstairs with refrigerator and microwave, so you can save tonight's leftovers for tomorrow's lunch/dinner. Minuses: -No helpful concierge, just a very young clerk whose English is not the best. -Doesn't take Amex. Visa/Master/cash only. -No elevators. Definitely not wheelchair-accessible. Thankfully, it's only a four-story hotel, but don't even think it if you can't lug your bag up a flight or two of stairs. -No bathtubs, just shower stalls. -Worn, stained carpeting that's needed replacing since the Reagan administration.

"Great location, just a block away from the red line (subway); great service. My only complaint was that the shower head in our room wouldn't stay in place so I had to hold it with one hand while showering! Had plenty of hot water, though. My 13-year-old son complained about the lack of ""good"" cable channels."

The Hallways were really little, the rooms were really small, the room had a bad paint job, but luckily the hotel was surrounded by really good restaurants.

"The hotel sits on a quiet, safe, relaxing street. The Cermark bus stop is right around the corner, and so is the red line for easy access into the loop, Michigan Ave, and MDW airport. McCormic Convention Center is only a 5 min bus ride. The hotel staff is very nice and friendly. Rooms are very simple but clean with access to internet via cable hook up. Lots of places to eat near the hotel (if you speek the language). Only advice, don't walk too far from Chinatown and the Bus/Train stops and you will be fine, even at night. I would stay here again."
