Check in was easy, staff were friendly. We checked into the first room and it was the loudest room we've ever experienced....no sleep that night. We moved to a new room the next day, but our second room had the bathroom down a small spiral staircase which was not convenient or easy at all. The rooms were stuffy with the only window unreachable...it could only be opened by staff.

This is a really cool hotel, with nice service and breakfast. Besides, this is located near to the Central station, very convenient.

The staff is a great addition to your hotel. We arrived very early and they were most helpful with our bags and offering food after a long flight from the USA. Directions and suggestions given by the staff were good.

The name of the hotel is perfect... Chic & Basic. Located a couple of minutes walk from the main train station in a quite street overlooking a canal. Excellent.

As with Ronseal this Hotel does what it says Gives you basic rooms with a bit of Chic. Downside rooms are small-ish and thats about it Rooms (whole hotel) are clean got more than the basic's (TV, free wifi, Coffee, etc) Staff excellent from booking in, finding attractions/restaurants, etc 10mins stroll from the central station and from Dam Square. Will be going back Will definitely be recommending

The single room I had was right at the top of the building, which is quite a climb up a steep, narrow twisted staircase. The toilet, which was for my room only, was in a separate room across the corridor, so I had to remember to take my key card with me if I wanted to go in the night! The room was quite small, but sufficient for one person. The staff were very friendly. I would recommend this hotel for one or two nights, but any more than that and you would need oxygen and climbing tackle to get to your room

Fact that breakfast is not included could be highlighted better. When breakfast is added to cost it would be €142 per night for a couple. Very expensive for a two-star hotel. Staff were excellent especially Ginni who should be valued greatly - her good interaction with customers and helpfulness was noticeable.

Modern decor in an older building reasonably close to the main railway station. Although room was a little tired and needed decorating, the furnishings were modern and included flat panel TV. Service was excellent and friendly.

A very positive suprise in this price category. Excellent location. Friendly and helpful staff.

The room was a bit awkward because it had no windows but to compensate it had a large skylight and airconditioner. The shower was excellent and clean, not very large but very good. They provided also a personalized letter with information about the hotel and the available facilities, which was a nice touch. The location along the Herengracht and easy walking distance from the city center and main railway station was excellent.
