Chester (England), England, United Kingdom

Description:
This is without doubt the most elegant and unique city centre hotel in Chester and one of the finest hotels in the North West. The Grosvenor Spa is at the heart of it all and there are 5 luxury treatment rooms, relaxation area, steam room, herb sauna, ice fountain, foot spa, themed shower, salt grotto, a make up and manicure station and a fitness centre for residents. (GW 05/2008) The hotel was originally opened in 1865 and is now a Grade 2 listed building of historic and architectural interest. The exterior is an immensely distinctive black and white timbered facade. This very much belies the modern elegance of the hotel interior. The hotel is owned by the Duke and Duchess of Westminster. It is located within Chester's City Walls and next to the ancient East Gate with its famous and distinctive clock tower. It is within 2 minutes walk of the medieval galleried streets known as 'The Rows'.

Dining:
There are two superb restaurants: The Arkle - which has been awarded again a Michelin Star for the 18th consecutive year - is open for dinner from Tuesday to Saturday, serving contemporary dining in an atmosphere of supreme elegance. It also features one of the most extensive wine cellars in England. The adjoining Library and Archive are ideal for pre-dinner drinks, morning coffee, light lunches and afternoon tea. La Brasserie - an informal Parisian style restaurant - is open for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner.

Birthday treatWe stayed for my boyfriends birthday celebration and had an executive room. As you enter the hotel to the time you leave you feel pampered, relaxed and welcome. This was our second visit to the hotel and preferred our last room as it was larger but albeit this was still lovely and tastefully decorated. The food at both restaurants is excellent. There is no tea making facilities in the room which is the only negative for us, however, room sevice bring up piping hot pots of tea and coffee at your request.

Wow!! Great hotelFantastic hotel. This was a truly 5* experience. Collected from Manchester airport by chauffeured luxury car (£50). Welcomed warmly by the concierge and check in staff. taken to our luxury room complete with Bose music system. The whole ambience of the hotel is luxury without stuffy snobbish staff. Yes it is an expensive hotel (well, it was to me) however, if you want somewhere for a special occasion, I would recommend this hotel. It's brilliantly located in the centre of Chester, which is a great place to visit in its own right. If you don't want to eat at the hotel try The Lounge restaurant, just around the corner from the hotel.good food, friendly staff awesome live music. Sit up stairs in the galleried dining room and soak up the atmosphere, while partaking of olives and fresh bread with balsamic and olive oil dip, and sampling and extensive range of cocktails (alcoholic or non as you prefer). All topped off with a walk down by the river. The hotel and Chester made for a truly memorable weekend.

Deluxe anniversary celebrationMy wife and I spent 3 days in Chester, staying for 2 nights at the Chester Grosvenor Spa Hotel. The experience was fantastic. The hotel is beautiful, with Romanesque pillars at the entrance, ambient lighting throughout, and situated in the centre of the pedestrianised main street. Smartly suited concierge greeted us at the door, took our luggage and guided us to reception. All staff with whom we had contact were courteous, helpful and treated us as if we were VIPs. This was the standard throughout. Doors are opened as you approach, staff always greet you as you pass and the service was first class. We drank champagne in our room, pre-ordered and therefore waiting in a silver ice bucket on arrival. The mini bar was well stocked. Turn down took place between 7-9 each evening and a fresh bottle of water left at the bedside. Robes and slippers were provided, in addition to Molton Brown toiletries. We took tea and scones in the Drawing Room one afternoon and this was presented on silverware by a discreet butler. We had dinner at the Simon Radley restaurant and also La Brasserie. Both were superb. The dining experience at the Simon Radley was sublime and we highly recommend this.Although we didnt use the spa facilities on this occasion, many guests did and I think we will next time!Chester itself is a lovely city, lots of Roman history, plenty to do and see - walk the Roman wall, visit the Roman museum and stroll along the Rows. We will return!

Wonderful hotel and location, but getting into the walled city was quite the challenge! Hotel needs to alert travellers they need to proceed through a baracade!

Sadly did not live up to its vision to "exceed your expectations"Positive = lovely hotel, great location, courteous staff. Not so positive = late booking sadly resulted in - no availability in the michelin restauraunt and no availability for treatments within the spa. both of which were key factors in our booking the Grosvenor.unable to enjoy the facilities which the hotel shouts about we really ended up with an overpriced room and continental breakfast which did not include any continental meats.

Romantic weekendStayed at the Grovenor Spa April 09. Customer service can not be faulted - the staff were incredibly helpful and nothing was too much trouble. We ate at The Simon Radley where the food was amazing with a great wine selection again the service was fantastic - a real experience. The only disappointment was lunch at the Brasserie - the food was warm and the service there was poor - they forgot part of the order and were general unhelpful. I am hoping that the waiter was just having a bad day and this was not a true reflection of the normal service there.

Absolutely top 5 star hotel, service, food, accomodation were all first class.Only down side was the Spa had no pool and they charge an extra £35 to get in & that we couldn't get a table in the Michelin restaurant, but we probably left it a little late to book given it was Easter bank holiday weekend. Having said that the Brasserie restaurant as a second option was fantastic in both the food & service.Expensive weekend away, but if you're looking to treat yourself and someone special, then you can't get better than this hotel, the only hotel in the North West with 5 Red Stars, and worth every one of them. We were made to feel very special. If only I could afford to do it more often!

Hotel is in a great location. The room itself was clean and spacious. Good quality furnishings and comfortable bed.Only disappointment is the Spa - there's a small sauna and steam room and a few loungers to relax but no pool or jacuzzi. If there are more than 10 people using the Spa facilities then it's too busy. The hotel charges £35 per room for access to the Spa.

We love staying at the Grosvenor. This is our third stay and it only gets better. The staff are always friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The food is excellent, we ate in La Brasserie. My partner is vegetarian and they made her a special starter as she didn't like what was offered on the main menu. Breakfast was lovely too.

Excellent traditional hotel, modernised as appropriate. All staff excellent and fantastic service from arrival to departure.Couple of things let it down being paying for tea/coffee on top of the room and also that there was no pool/sauna/jacuzzi area to use within the hotel.

A quick stop in Chester, an Oasis of calm. Staff very pleasent and helpful - room excellent. Food we ate was excellent; we arrived at 1800 and requested a light snack, however, afternoon tea finished realtively early and there was a complete lack of flexibility in providing an alternative - shame.

Our second visit here - excellent hotel - the service is wonderful. Had the dinner inclusive rate - the meal was exquiste - I can recommend the five spice pork starter - every course was delicious. This hotel really makes you feel very special - we took some clients with us this time and it was well worth the expense. Only very slight negative is extras coffee etc very expensive.Highly recommend this hotel.
