I visited Chelsea Star Hotel in March and didn´t find such rooms and amenities as they tell in their web sites. We all got very small and dark rooms. For example we didn´t have a chair where to sit down or even small table to put things on. In restrooms there were no soap (only in dusch). Stairs to upper floors were heavy to go! But the location and cleanless were good. Price - I believe next time I choose some other in same or lower price. In one word - we were disappointed, but things could have been more bad, too.

It was a decent hostel with character. I don't mind staying in cheap hostels. This was not a cheap hostel.

We've stayed at Ch. Star beginning of July for four days. My girlfriend and I booked a superior room which has its own bathroom. We did not stayed at the hotel that much during the day we were out shopping and enjoying this cool city. As this was out first time to NYC we asked lot of questions from the front desk guys. They were always nice and patient with us despite the lot of work they had to do at the same time. The overall experience was great and I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a guest oriented place for a bargain in NYC.

The hotel is in a great location just 2 blocks from Penn Station. My girlfriend and I took the Amtrac from DC to Penn Station and it took us about 5 minutes to walk to the hotel. The hotel was clean and well maintained. The staff was friendly and did a good job of cleaning our room and the communal bathroom everyday. We were there in May but it was pretty hot outside during the day. Fortunately the AC wall unit worked great and kept the room at a reasonable temperature by my standards (which meant my girlfriend thought it was freezing). I have no idea if we had cable or if the TV even worked since we never turned it on but I didn't go to NYC to watch TV either. The bed was comfortable and I would stay there again. The only thing was that the room that we stayed in did not have its own bathroom. This is something I didn't notice when I booked the room and came as a bit of a surprise when we got there (which is completely my own fault). I stayed on the 1st floor which had 3 toilets and one shower. So there was never a wait for a toilet but sometimes a wait for the shower. This might not be a problem on the other levels but I have no idea. Overall I was impressed with the hotel and would stay there again.

My three requirements for a hotel room are: Cleanliness, location and price. Chelsea Star met all three. It is conveniently located near Penn Station and the subway. It was very clean and security seemed good. I was very comfortable in the neighborhood. I will be staying there again in October.

Shopping, Broadway & dining, didn't want to spend our entire budget on accommodation. The superior room was adequate size, very clean and a large bathroom, big enough for two to get ready for a night on the town. As walkers and the location couldn't be better. There is a small courtyard that is great to enjoy your morning coffee. the manager was a wealth of information on New York; where to grab a beer, get a coffee & bagel, galleries/museums, shopping & how to navigate subway. We will stay there again.
