Area Attractions: In addition to natural attractions like Bash Bish Falls and Monument Mountain, the Berkshire area boasts some of the best in historic attractions, including Arrowhead, the home of Herman Melville; The Mount, summer home of Edith Wharton; Ventforth Hall and Bidwell House; and Hancock Shaker Village. Best known for its cultural attractions, summer in the Berkshires offers a staggering menu of music, dance, visual arts, and theatre at Tanglewood, Berkshire Theatre Festival, Williamstown Theatre Festival, Jacobs Dance Festival, the Norman Rockwell Museum, Chesterwood, the Clark Art Institute, Aston Magna, and the Berkshire Opera Company, to name only a few.
Recreation Information: A broad range of recreational activities are available. Most are no more than a fifteen minute drive from the Chambery with few more than forty-five minutes from the Inn's front door. Hiking is available at Bartholomews Cobble in Ashley Falls; Pleasant Valley Wildlife Sanctuary in nearby Lenox and Jericho Valley in Williamstown. Sections of the Appalachian Trail wend through the Berkshires and the many state parks provide other excellent hiking opportunities. Llama hikes are availabe through Berkshire Mountain Llama Hikes in Lee. Fishing, boating and swimming are natural Berkshire pastimes at Laurel Lake and Goose Pond in Lee, Stockbridge Bowl in Stockbridge; Center and Yokum Ponds in Becket, and Onota and Pontoosuc Lakes in Pittsfield, to name a few natural area waterways. Sunny Banks Ranch in Becket, Berkshire Horseback Adventures and Undermountain Farm, both in Lenox, provide opportunities for horseback riding. Scenic roadways throughout the area are ideal for cycling enthusiasts. Golfing is available at the Egremont Country Club in Egremont; Bas Ridge Golf Club in Hinsdale; Skyline Country Club in Lanesboro; and Cranwell Golf Club in Lenox. Cross-country and downhill skiing and snowboarding are popular pastimes at Catamount, Butternut, Jiminy Peak, Bucksteep Manor and Otis Ridge. Handball, racquetball and tennis are also available at area athletic facilities throughout the county.
