oh yeah, and there are not 6 restaurants, no pools or athletic facilities, and no convention space (especially for 3,000) as described in the hotel summary. There is a penthouse bar/lounge and dining room w/ a dinner menu, but thats it as far as facilities.

Much of hotel common space & exterior at ground level seemed to be under construction. No hot water, elevator was very slow, and nighttime noise level was almost intolerable (due to proximity to La Mariscal, a nightlife district). However, it was relatively clean throughout, though dated.

During the day I went sight seeing through out the day so many thing to see. At night the night life was unbeleiveable so nice people so many places to go with in walking distance from the hotel.

The sheets and pillow were WET! This was the trip from hell and it was just the begining; keep in mind we got into Quito @ 10PM after a 16 hour flight. Next, there is NO iron in the room, no refrigirator and just enough towels for one shower. They do not tell you ahead of time that there's some kind of bar in the room and that you have to call front desk so they can unlock it! There is a restaurant in the hotel that I TRIED to have a taste of ALL 7 days of my stay with NO luck. Day one it was closed, day two I saw someone that looked like worked there but had NO clue as to when the restaurant opened so I decided the next day to get room service, well guess what; NO room service either and this due to an affair they had and they just could not deal with actual hotel customers (the restaurant was rented to some outside party, it would have been nice if they warned the people ahead of time!), by this time I was hungry and upset, I called front desk and figured that should solve the issue, after explaining the situation the surprised front desk man said he'll find out what's the deal and that he'll call me back... Two weeks later and back in the states I am still waiting for his call. Needless to say, I was not feeling too good but got out of bed to get something to eat. By the way, we were suposed to have Continental breakfast well; I did not get a piece of bread! I must be spoiled because when the word CASINO is in the mix my mind sees Vegas or Atlantic City well, this CASINO at the hotel is a joke! There are pictures of it on the elevator that really get you going but once you get there you realize that it was all an optical illusion; there's 6 coin machines and that is it! If you like to sleep at night like normal people do, DO NOT stay here, the parties are VERY loud and the windows are not noise proof. There is a DISCO right below the hotel, I stayed on the 2nd floor and actually the booming of the bass did not keep my body on the bed I was floating to the beat ti

The Chalet Suisse hotel is a nice place to stay while you are in Quito. While it may lack all the eminities that Grigos are used to the place still is in a safe area and the staff is friendly. If you are expecting a 5 star hotel this is not the place for you but if all you are needing is a place to sleep while you see Quito this is a great place and a good deal.

Hotel is a $5 cab ride from the airport in a fun part of town. (Fun = loud on weekends) Some great restaurants within a few blocks and a lot of night life. Rooms are fine: relatively clean (clean linens) and modest. Perfect for a quick stopover or as a place to hold your stuff for a few days of touring.

Chalet Suisse was a great value. The location - in the center of the new downtown area - is perfect. Breakfast was good, and there are numerous restaurants in the immediate area of the hotel. The hotel staff spoke English and was eager to help. There is public transportation within walking distance of the hotel. The hotel provides everything that one should expect for the price. We would not hesitate to stay there again.
