We first stayed here for one week, and then one day in between connecting trains. The first room we had was relatively nice for what we paid for- we would have liked an airconditioner, but there was a ceiling fan. We also got a private bathroom when we paid for a room only so I was impressed. the second room was much nicer- we had a queen bed instead of two singles and a lounge room with an airconditioner. The hotel is in a nice location, although it varies from street to street in LA as we learnt the hard way... The reception staff were friendly and were multilingual which we didn't need, but were impressed with. They also had a laundry downstairs for $1 a load.

One of the worst hotels I have ever been too. Bathroom was a one big joke. Smelly and stuffy room, uncomfortable bed. And over 100$ for a room (they charge you extra for a room with a separate bathroom). Choose for better option.

One of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. Beautiful reception and the beauty and comfort finishes here. We paid over 100$ (extra payment for private bathroom) for stinky and stuffy room and something that reminded us of bathroom (did you wonder why that are not showing pics of bathroom at the website???) uncomfortable and loud bed. No parking. Please choose for other option.

As it's a very cheap hotel, I didn't expect too much. It's an old building so that the room looked not so clean. The shared bath room and toilet were old, too. Sometimes, smelt...It's very humid inside. So the bed felt like a bit wet. Anyway, it's an OK place for travellers with a limited budget.

The hostest was pretty. No airconditioner. I was very hot. The customer service isn't too bad, but the rooms are tiny and cramped. You got cable t.v. but you won't want to do anything but sleep there if you can. There's a lot of outside noise, got woken up quite a few times by emergency vehicles' sirens. I didn't feel safe outside at night. Spend an extra twenty bucks and you'll enjoy your night in LA a lot more.

do not try to save money and stay at this hotel. The pictures are very decieving it looks like a brand new room in the pictures but they are far from new. The room I had was very old the only thing new was the paint on the walls. It was over 100 degrees the night I stayed here and surprise! no air conditioing! The elevator brought me up to the 15th floor but when I went to go back down it was broken and wouldnt come back up to my floor! nobody bothered to tell me it was broken so I had to walk down to a lower floor to get on the elevator. There was no remote contol for the tv, and only a sheet on the bed, no comforter. I would expect a room like this from a hostel in europe not a hotel in LA

Bed bugs come out of the mattress to bite you. Maids steal from the rooms. Security and Maids make out in the hallways. Hallways stay cold and windy especially at night. Bogus phone charges even when you keep the phone off the hook!

A friend and I stayed at the Cecil for 3 nights while we were in LA for AX, a convention. The service was pretty good. I had heard some pretty awful things about the hotel, and considering it was only $50 a night for the both of us, I was expecting some REALLY ugly things. The staff were always friendly and ready to help us, there were always taxis just in case, and it was only a 20 min walk to the convention center. The only thing that I didn't like was we had to ask for everything--towels, washcloths, an iron, etc. They were nice and gave it all to us, but it was just kind of annoying to have to ask in the first place. (And P.S.: there are NO ironing boards!)

My stay at the Cecil Hotel was very pleasant. Beautfiul reception area. Rooms were a little bit small but conventional. I will definitely consider staying there again.

yes, i booked this hotel for 4 days and i thought it would be nice to be located in downtown but it turned out that it is an unsafe area!! after 8 p.m. it is dangerous to go outside the hotel because there are lots of people would just wondering around the blocks in front of the hotels. it is very unsafe for us travelers. the room smells, the sink is dirty, the bed is uncomfortable, the bathroom is outside!!!! so does the toilet!! i really regretted staying in here. so yeah, don't ever stay here again!!

Orbitz had a great price for the room with shared bathroom/shower. We opted for the $10 more to have our own shower etc. Add in $10 for overnight parking in a nearby lot and plan to move your car by 9am or pay day rate. Has a beautiful lobby and is great for the price and location. We had no problems.

From the second I walked in the staff was friendly, professional and upbeat that fit the area. It is geared to a more NY or European style traveler that appreciates quality for what they are paying. This was my second stay at Cecil and I will continue to stay there when in the area and recommend this location to others. Remember this isnt the Ritz Carlton and it doesn't boast being a 5 star hotel - but it is in a preserved stunner of a building and that helps make the trip worth the stay.

A cheap place to stay, good looking lobby, not the rooms. Looks like remodeled from an old apartment building. No parking, had to spend $10 nearby for parking thru the night which expires at 9am, had to move the car again.

BEWARE! LOOKS ARE DECEIVING!I went to check in at this hotel with my sister and my son. When you walk-in, its guarded by security as you walk into a beautiful, old-fashioned lobby. At first you're like, "Wow! What a hotel! The rooms are going to be just as great!" Haha, yeah right! We walked into the room and its pretty much half the size of a typical bedroom. There is no bathroom- you actually have to walk out in the scary hallway and share the bathroom and showers with the other guests staying there! You only get a little sink with a mirror. When we were tripping out on how creepy and disgusting this room was, my sister turned on the water, and with a loud splatter, brown liquid poured out! Not to mention, there was no comforter on the full size bed, and when you walk to the window, its completely dark as you see the scary, haunting windows across the way. Luckily after we complained about how creepy and awful this room was, we were upgraded to a some-what better room next door. I plan on complaining to Orbitz about this room and I hope to get my money back. Do not...I repeat- DO NOT stay here...unless you want a cheap room [*]
