Location and scenery were great, all staff besides restaurant were great. Parking was horrible unless you have a compact car, restaurant staff was not family-friendly.

Me and my girlfriend stayed her for 5 days. We had great service. The room was nice and the location is prime for San Diego. It's right next to the bay and a block from the ocean. This hotel has great service and the hotel rooms are nice. Every night there are fireworks over mission bay so I would recommend a bay view. It's great for family's or a romantic trip. They have a spa and a fitness facility if you want to work out. There are newer hotels that don't have the view or the ammenities that the Catamaran has. 5 Stars!!

I was delegated to plan a family reunion for 16 people and decided upon the Catamaran Hotel in San Diego after visiting other sites. Of course, as the event grew nearer, some of the negative reviews concerned me. You needn't worry. From the location of the rooms(we were on the upper tower floors where one could see the Bay and the ocean, and impeccable service,(thank you to Rosanna in catering and her fabulous staff), to the front desk and the housekeepers, and the beach crew, we were(all 16 if you can beleieve it), extremely satisfied. We decided this is where we will meet as a family every summer. In fact my sister, who has stayed in very high end resorts in Newport and Laguna beach, stated that the service surpassed those other resorts. I also want to commend the manager at World Famous restaurant(Daniel) for being so accomodating. Thanks again to the Catamaran for helping us make this trip a real "memory maker!" x

Enjoyed staying there alot. While there we went to Sea World, beach, Legoland, Bahia Cruise, smores, walked along path by beach. Very enjoyable.

The ground of the hotel is tropical and lovely. The rooms are clean but the fixtures in the bathroom are dated and I would have expected better quality for what I paid. Lovely grounds, friendly staff, dated rooms that seem a bit overpriced.

Our whole family (my family, my husband's siblings and their teenagers) stayed at the Catamaran for 3 nights. The hotel was very accomodating regarding our requests for our rooms to be groundfloor and close together. Each member of the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I was a little nervous about booking (I planned this trip for everyone and I wanted them to be happy) but once we got there I was very pleased. The rooms were spacious, very clean and I did not feel that they were outdated. There was a separate vanity area with two sinks and plenty of counterspace. There was a refrigerator and a coffeemaker. The $5 pricetag for a bottle of water in the room seemed a little high but that was minor. We thought this hotel was perfect for our family get together as each room has either a patio or a balcony to relax or socialize in the midst of beautifully landscaped grounds with the sounds of the streams and ducks around you as opposed to a sterile high rise hotel that does not offer this relaxed common area to relax and socialize. Mission Bay was right out the backdoor where we played volleyball in the sand, rented kayaks and rented bikes to explore the area. In the evening (I think about 8:30) you can sit on the bay and watch the fireworks from SeaWorld each night. The restaurant on the property, Atoll, was very good but a little pricey. There were restaurants (both nicer and casual) within walking distance of the hotel. Teenagers are often very difficult to keep happy while on vacation but all three of ours had a great time and would love to go back again.

It is a very nice hotel complete with exotic birds and koi ponds. Our room was on the eleventh floor with a view of the bay and ocean. We were also given a free sunset cruise of the bay upon arrival. The pool was well-kept and had its own bar. It was very near Seaworld. Our room was spotless and the staff were very friendly and helpful. My only complaint: my four year old woke up on the hide-a-bed and managed to open the door to our room at 2:00a.m. I wish there was a bolt on the door or a chain for young children. I heard the door so he didn't get far. Overall, my family enjoyed the hotel, its pool, location, and beach.

We have a 2 1/2 year old, and we did not want to rent a car while in S.D. So the Catamaran was a perfect solution. Stayed in building 3, overlooking the pool which was fine. Drinks were pricey at the pool bar, but very tasty! Arcade was very cool. The beach on the bay was great, no waves, so my son was very excited about that. Pacific Beach is only 1 block away, with great places to eat, all within a very brief walk. Cab to Sea World about $12. We shopped at Ralph's 3 blocks away to store up on food and drink to save a little more cash. There is a cool bar at the resort for a few afternoon drinks. Watched the Luau entertainment for an hour while waiting to take our boat ride on the bay. Took the boat ride at 9:00 to watch the fireworks at Sea World, very cool! This place was a little pricey, but the location and the very cool gardens, the family friendly pool, and all around feel was worth the extra money.

No help from staff. Was very dissapointed in the level of helpfullness. Seems like they save the worse room for the priceline people. I was lied to buy the staff when it came to upgrading to a better room and had to haggle for an hour to prove they were wrong. Will not stay there again!

Wow, what a place. Our room was called a 'Garden View' room. My wife and I, with another couple were able to get two rooms together, each with their own balcony overlooking a small 'stream/lagoon'. The view from the room reminded me of Hawaii, plentiful birds, fish, turtles, palm tress, tiki torches. Very very nice. The room was clean and well appointed. The only drawback was that they charged us $13 a night to park the car on the property. They said we could park out on the street, however, there are NO parking spots available, since the resort is located one block from the beach. Also, be VERY CAREFUL where you park we you go out. We had parked behind a Taco Bell to have breakfast at a IHOP located next door. 30 minutes later, we came out and our rental car was towed away. It cost us * to the the car out of the tow lot. Bummer. Overall, it was one of the best vacations we have had in a long time. There is a LOT to do and see in San Diego, and we only brushed the surface. Have a great time, and look for the Green Flash!

My group and I were very happy with the Catamaran Resort. We had tower rooms and could see both Mission Bay and the Pacific Ocean. The grounds were very impressive with tropical foliage and numerous ponds to view coy fish and the various water fowl that live on the property. We like that we were in close walking distance to the beach and restaurants. They even had nightly party on a replica river boat that cruised the bay and that was a lot of fun as well.

The garden view room was a little overstated. But, the hotel did have a wonderful variety of plants and flowers, and palm trees with multiple coi ponds, and a variety of ducks. The hotel staff were polite and friendly. The room had plenty of towels and wash cloths which was a plus! Pier and beach within short walking distance from the hotel. Also, hotel back-up on a beach/harbor for sunbathing and recreation rentals. Also, the hotel room had a charge for an I-phone within the console of radio, which was a plus.

All of the entertainment features for children. Parking costs $12/day for self and $16/day for valet. The facilities were fabulous! Even though I didn't like having to pay for parking, the property offered many other amenities that were included such as the boat ride (free), the video arcade (all games free), the luau dancers, the science camp ($3 per kid), etc.

Given several other ratings on this website we were very disappointed in our stay at the Catamaran Resort and Spa. Many of the reviews seemed to like the atmosphere, however we wondered if we were staying at a different resort. I believe the hotel has a tower with rooms, however we ended up in the two level sections of the resort and can tell you they were not much better than a Motel 6, with the exception of the TV. Had a room directly across from the Sales office and the hallway to the room was embarassing to say the least. The rooms were dark with limited lighting and were musty. Bathroom shower was dangerous with the temperature changing from warm to pretty darn hot whenever a flush of a toilet or use of the sink was made. Not good for kids under age 7 or 8. Pools was nice with the exception of the ducks that were swimming and chasing each around the pool area. This seems like a potential health hazard. I am hoping that the tower rooms are a lot better and worthy of the $* night that we paid for the disappointment. If we got charged the wrong amount for the hotel room and did not question it, then shame on us. My wife worked at a resort and spa now owned by Marriott and I think we can honestly say, that this should not be called a resort. In my work, I have travelled all throughout the Western US, Asia and the Central and South Pacific and this for the money was the worst ever spent. If by chance the tower rooms are better make sure you stay in them. I'm not sure I trust the ratings on this site anymore.

This hotel is perfectly located on Mission Bay. It's right on the shore of the bay, so there are all sorts of water sports and a bay beach to enjoy. But it's also two short blocks to the ocean at Pacific Beach, where you can enjoy laying out and listening to the waves crash...or get out and ride them! There are lots of fun restaurants within walking distance. The fitness center is wonderful! They have five outdoor machines so that you can work out with a great view of Mission Bay and a nice San Diego breeze. The only thing that would have made the stay better...a laundry facility. There is a laundry service, but we'd rather do our own. There are a few laundromats about 1/2 mile in either direction of the hotel, but it's not as handy as having one at the hotel, where you can lay out at the pool while you're waiting for the machines. If you want to try boogie boarding, check out the little boardwalk stores (bordering the beach, and just a block or so south of the hotel). They sell them for $10-13, which is how much it usually costs to rent one for a couple of hours.

Common areas are well maintained and interesting. Great pool and spa. Room poorly maintained, concierge service inaccurate and snotty, Rooms are falling apart. Rate paid is high above quality of room. In contrast: pool, jetted spa, grounds, water sport dock/staff, view of bay, all excellent.

The location of this hotel is very nice. It's very close to a main strip, the ocean and the bay. The overall appearance is great - on the outside. The room was clean, the bathroom could have used an update though. The floor was faded from age and looked grungy. Our biggest complaint and the reason we would never recommend anyone to stay here or stay here again ourselves is the fluctuation in the water temperature when taking a shower. We asked why the water goes from scalding to freezing at random and got the response of 'It's an old building'. Great .... we've stayed in plenty of hotels and never had this problem before. Very very friendly staff and a grocery store is close.
