well the trip was perfect,,,

I thought the Catalonia was alright. It was big but seemed to accomodate all the people that stayed there in regards to having enough seating space and food at the buffets. All the workers were very nice and were very fast to help if you needed anything. Some of the reviews we read before going was that the workers didn't speak English very well but that was to be expected since it is a different country. They spoke well enough to understand what we wanted or needed. As far as the resort in general, it was very clean and met our expectations. We had some issues with the showers in some rooms as far as water pressure and hot water. The food at the buffets were satisfactory. I would encourage anyone that stays here to take advantage of the Mexican, Italian, Steakhouse and Japanese restaruants in resort. These meals were far better than the buffets especially the Japanese. I've never eaten Japanese but their steak, chicken and shrimp was excellent! We had a group of thirteen and were able to get in with only a few days notice. We were disappointed with the entertainment at night. They had shows every night but there was never any live music. In the week we stayed there, they had two dancing shows and the rest were getting people on stage and doing activities which got old by the end of the week. We would have liked to have had some live music. They have a disco for entertaining but it was cold in there and they don't play any American music. The shows were over by 10:30 and there wasn't anything to do after that except for the disco which stayed open until 2:00. We were hoping for more entertainment.

If you are going to enjoy a beautiful beach, this hotel is the place. The white sand and clear waters were one of the prettiest I've ever seen. The hotel was very well maintained and the grounds were lovely. They had a wonderful selection of restaurants. The staff seemed happy to please. However, it is a very large resort so try to get a villa close to the beach. Also, if you are on the ground floor, there seems to be a problem with the plumbing and the showers flood the bathroom. The beds were not comfortable and the pillows were horrible. But, the maid service was timely each day with plenty of towels and they always restocked the mini refrigerators. Overall, it's a good value for the money.

This hotel was very good in some respects and not so good on others. The staff was either VERY friendly or just rude. We were there for 10 days and some days the resort was great and some days it was aweful. The food was good- the buffet was MUCH better than the ala carte restaurants. The power and hot water went out momentarily a couple of times. However, it has to be expected in a small under developed country. People who complain about this are pathetic. It really was not that big of an inconvenience. The maid service was EXCELLENT.

Beautiful layout and grounds, spectacular beaches. Italian, steak, AND buffet restaurants were awful. Japanese restaurant receives a passing mark. Few people were able to speak/and or understand Enlglish, the rooms were like being in a dungeon, overlooking a shrub. suggest guests bring their own pillows.

This resort is Awesome! Very clean and the rooms are great. It's large enough that you do not feel over crowded. The food is also very Amazing and they have A La Carte Restaurants which my advice is to make your reservations for those restaurants as soon as you get to the resort with guest services as they fill up quickly and you need to reserve before going. I love this place and would most definately go again. Our room was in villa 2 which was right by the beach and pool. The staff were very friendly!

First of all, check-in was bad. I am pregnant and the check-in was so slow. I was tired just sitting around and waiting after 3pm. Until we got a bit of tone in our voices, then the check-in was completed. The staff was great and the shows were very nice. The only con I would say is that there is nowhere for a pregnant person to escape from the smokers. Everyone smoked wherever they pleased and everywhere. I didn't appreciate this fact very much.

We stayed at this resort Jan. 16-24 2009. It is very close to the airport. The resort is very beautiful and large. The front reception area was lovely and the staff very friendly. They do have speciality restaurants and you need to make reservations for these. I recommend you make the reservations as soon as you check in. The Japanese Steak House was excellent! The buffet food was good. I would recommend eating breakfast at the buffet by the pool. They don't tell you it's open for breakfast and it's much less crowded than the main buffet. The staff that interacts with the guests mostly speak English. The bussers, maids, etc. barely spoke any English but then we we're in a Spanish speaking country!! The rooms were clean and safe. If you have more than 2 people to a room you will need to ask for a cot (which is a twin bed) to be brought into the room. The pool is huge and when we were there, not crowded at all. The activity staff wasn't annoying if you said no they would leave you alone. The entertainment was ok, it was resort quality. There is everything you need right there on the resort. The shops are expensive so make sure you bring everything you need. We did a 4 wheel excursion and it was fun. Our 7 year old enjoyed this as well. The kids club was great. The staff there is so friendly and did amazing with the kids. Overall I would recommend and would definately return to this resort.

I had read many reviews before choosing this hotel. I was a little nervous because you read both good and bad. I'm easy to please and I thought the place was excellent. The buffets had foods I was not familiar with but they are trying to satisfy many travelers. I promise you will not go hungry. We loved the pool and I loved the huge bathtub. I would suggest you bring your own washclothes because they are not used here and are hard to come by. If you can't enjoy yourself when you are in paradise then you should just stay home. I would definitely recommend this place to all my friends. I felt they tried their best to please.

We stayed at the hotel for 6 days. Most important: Great location! There is no resort near this one; you have the whole beach to yourself. Walk about 2 miles and you will find the next resort with a not so good beach and location. Also, this hotel has a gorgeous garden area. This is a huge resort, and it is well maintained. Also, good pool area. Big enough to have fun. Very good for couples as well as families. Very nice staff, very friendly. The Management is unorganized, rooms were double booked, and it takes a while for them to take care of complaints. The Suites have a great Bathroom, and enough space to relax and feel comfortable. Be aware: Put everything in the safe in your room, I left my watch out by accident, and after they cleaned our room, the watch was gone. So for everybody who plans a trip: Put your belongings in the safe. So the rooms and the beach are good, but I only give this resort 3 stars because of the food: The offer Buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There is a lot to chose from, but not everything is good. Chose the right food and you will enjoy it. Watch out for Ice Cubes, a lot of our friends got a stomach ache, which is not really the resorts fault, it is just the quality of the water in that country. They also offer theme restaurants, a Steak House, Mexican Italian and Japanese Restaurant. I would stick with the Buffett. We tried all but the Mexican, and it was so so. The setting of the Japanese Restaurant is fun, but again, the food is OK. I wish they would stick with typical Dominican food, and they would be doing much better. If somebody from Haiti tries to cook Japanese food, of course it won't be as good&. They also have a Crepes bar. GREAT!!! Try the sweet Crepes, you'll love it. The hotel offers free WIFI in certain spots, and you can go online at their internet café. Also, check in is at 3 PM, put your bathing suits in the carry on, and you can go to the beach if you get there before 3 pm. We met some people who were bored a

Let's start with the weather was Great! Our room on the first floor. Would have to say Front desk and Guest service staff were not very accommodating to help us out with our needs or wants on this trip. Hotel staff didn't know they had changed our room when we checked out because the toilet overflowed on to the floor. No hot water to speak of either. Dinner reservations that were supposed to be included were almost impossible to get unless you wanted to eat after 8pm and not available at Steak House. Variety of food at Buffet was vast but left much to be desired - pretty bland and tasteless. Bars only serve a limited number of drinks and wine is watered down at buffet restaurant. Oh don't forget to bring $10 per person entrance tax into country. The resort is very nicely laid out and has a lot to offer to do. Nightly shows are for kids not adults and pretty pathetic. The Casino is the most pathetic venue there...30 slot machines and 5 tables. Blackjack table doesn't even use cards of the same color and it looked like a lot of face cards were missing from the decks. beware. Definite language barrier- wasn't able to learn anything about the country from the local taxi cab drivers or staff which is always interesting. 18 hole golf course was good, not so much the 9 hole course. Overall probably still a good deal for your money if you are from Canada or Europe which is where most visitors here are from.

Staff was great. Lots of activities to participate in. Nice to have a small band playing music after dinner near the lobby bar. No complaints about the food. Something to eat for everyone. Room was nice. More spanish spoken here than some other resorts but still able to communicate. Grounds are absolutely beautiful. Beach is very isolated and private.

The Catalonia and Punta beat Mexico by far. there was nothing to complain about. We swam, snorkled, rode bikes on the beach. The food was wonderful and the Dominican people were very nice and respectful.

Our stay at the Catalonia Barvaro Resort was fantastic. The staff were friendly and extreemely courteous and helpful and very energetic. My husband speaks Spanish but I have a limited vocabulary and it was amazing to participate in conversations with them the would fluidly move between Spanish with my husband to English for me. The resort was beautiful and well maintained, the selection of food at the buffets was incredible. We were very pleased with our choice of resorts and we are even starting to plan our next vacation at the same resort. One of the reasons other than stated before we like this resort is because It is a family resort and not geared toward singles. Everywhere you looked you saw either families or couples. We would definitely reccommend this resort to anyone looking to enjoy a relaxing and refreshing vacation. Our villa was close to the beach so we only had a short walk to reach it, there were plenty thatch covered sun shelters and palm trees to retreat to when you had had enough sun,

My friend and I went for rest and relaxation. It was the greatest place for that..we would lounge by the pool or go by the sea if we wanted to have a nap. The activity personel.....fabulous..made you feel welcome and included ..I have never been to a place where they actually made it a point to remember your name and draw you into the activities. I loved the food and it was so convenient...by the pool, during the day and by the entertainment stage in the evening. Natty from the kids club made me a CD of the music for our school. Her boss didnt even charge for it. I want to take my family there someday if I can ever afford it...it is a place where families, singles and couples could have a great time. I JUST LOVED IT!! It was a little pricey...but we left booking until the last minute.

OMG! The minute me and my friend walk thru that hotel the atmosphere was amazing, the people were great always with a smile on their face. I would definently stay again and maybe sooner than expected :o) We meet so many great people/friends/family that we didn't want to leave. I will miss them all!!

As soon as I arrived, I upgraded to the Royal section, and was very impressed. For the extra few dollars, I heard it was a good decision. Separate adult pool area. The rooms were very large and clean and quiet as they don't allow kids in this section. If you wanted more action you could just go to the other pool section. Lots of beach chairs on own beach area and the pool chairs were padded. Nice!!

The staff is extremely nice. The food enjoyable. The beach beautiful. I enjoyed my 7 days very much. The only downside is that the resort is isolated but if you are in the typical tourist mentally (sun, beach and drink) it is fine. They also have many tours. I did't do any. That was my first time in Punta Cana.

The beach is beautiful with white sand that doesn't stick to your feet and clean, clear water with no waves. Lots of palm trees provide shade, but people put their stuff on chairs under the palapas at dawn and don't come back for hours, even though the hotel has several signs saying reserving is not allowed. I blew out the circuit breaker in our room using my hair dryer, and the one provided by the hotel was kind of weak. The announcer at the nightly shows can be annoying but the performers can really dance! The Italian and Japanese restaurants are the best, though we had decent meals in the Mexican and Steak restaurants also -- make sure to make your dining reservations as soon as you arrive to get choice times. Breakfast at the buffet is fine -- we especially liked the freshly squeezed fruit juices, watermelon, mango, etc. -- DELICIOUS! The wood-fired pizza by the pool is your best bet for lunch. The casino is small and didn't have three-card poker or Let It Ride, but the dealers were friendly and the bar service in there was excellent. We had massages in the beach hut by the pool -- lots of nice oil and only $65 -- but with the music blasting from the pool aerobics class next door it wasn't really relaxing. Check out bavarorunners.com if you want to go Zip Lining -- $89 for ten lines. Trip is about an hour each way. As long as you don't expect "mint on your pillow" service you will enjoy the Catalonia Bavaro Resort!
