Makahuena at Poipu is on the southernmost point of the island of Kauai and offers the rare opportunity for viewing both sunrise and sunset from its oceanfront location. This oceanfront all-suite condominium consists of beautifully furnished one, two and three bedroom suites with full kitchen, and offers swimming pool, sundeck, jet spa, and tennis court and barbecue area. With Keoniloa Bay and Shipwreck Beach to the East and Brennecke's and Poipu Beach to the West, Makahuena is within walking distance to some of the most beautiful beaches on the island. Beginning March 15, 2009, Castle Resorts will provide mid-stay housekeeping service for stays that are 7 days or longer, which includes changing of linens and towels, vacuuming, and cleaning of bathrooms as well as kitchens.As a result, this properties will not be offering daily maid service in lieu of this mid-stay clean. Daily maid service will be honored for any reservations that are booked prior to March 15, 2009. Guests who are staying less than 7 days can purchase additional housekeeping services at nominal costs. Extra towels and amenities will be provided in each unit prior to check-in. Guests can request for replenishment of the bath amenities (shampoo, soap, toilet tissues) at any time without charge. There will be a small fee for the replacement of towels/linens.

We really liked the Makahuena Condos. Our unit, 1403, had a partial view of the ocean from the deck and master bedroom. It was an easy 5 minute walk to the beach. Everything we needed for a day in the sun was available (extra towels, cooler, mats, boogie board, etc). There was a full entertainment center in the living room and a plasma TV in the master bedroom. Free cable and internet were available. The kitchen was well equipped with dishes, small electronics, and nice appliances. We would definitely stay there again.

We stayed here last summer and had a wonderful evening with family from the island. We were quiet and everyone was home by 10 p.m. and the property manager had a rather rude threatening message on the machine indicating the she would phone the police if we didn't cease our raging parties. Ummm, with a four year old, my husband and I, I don't think so. The way the property is situated what is a quiet, low-key evening can be perceived as a "raging party" because the property is a u-shape and backs to another complex. There is little parking. The condo and grounds were nice and can't beat the location in regards to the ocean (right on the cliffs). I wouldn't stay here again because of the harrassment...there are other places far less expensive that are closer to the beach.

This resort sets on the southern most point of Poipu and as such has the greatest coastline view, as well as the sunrise and sunsets. But when the tradewinds are blowing this can be a pretty windy place. Cools it down though...The 3 story/3 bedroom unit was very nicely kept and was a good layout. We'd stay here again especially with the pricing.

Ocean waves pounding against the cliffs seem to rock you to sleep each night and the sunsets are amazing over the deep blue Pacific ocean. You'll find yourself within walking distance to Poipu & Shipwreck Beach along with fabulous dining and shops nearby. This facility is very centrally located for whatever your adventure of the day may be. Mahalo!!!

We enjoyed our stay at the Makahuena. Our rooms were clean. It is situated right along the ocean and you can sit on the bluff and watch both the incredible Poipu sunrises and sunsets! The only downside was that there was no A/C, since it does get quite warm. Ceiling fans helped somewhat. The grill was out of propane, and there was no one on duty in the evening to deal with it.

The Castle Makahuena Condominium Resort at Poipu, is a great value for the location. The beach wasn't as close as I expected, but a short car ride did the trick. The resort's pool and spa were down for maintanence the majority of time we wre there, which was only 3 days, so it put a bit of a damper on our poolside relaxation, but we found plenty of other things to do. We were in a 2 bedroom ocean front condo which was very spacious and was right on the cliff so you not only got an ocean view with beautiful sunsets but also a magnificent display of waves crashing on the rocks sending sprays of water into the air. BREATHTAKING! Overall our stay was very nice, the price was great, views incredible, bed a bit saggy but clean and well kept. It does show signs of aging but I think they are in the process of taking care of that.
