I enjoyed my short stay in 2008. This was mainly due to the comfortable room and the en suite. In June 2009 I made an online enquiry for accommodation but received no reply. I subsequently sent an e-mail and again there was no reply. I then phoned the hotel and was told that reception would call me the following morning. I thought this was rather strange. I did not receive a call and as a result, I booked into another hotel in Ruthin.

nice hotel good food good staff. No problems with noise from the wine bar as stated in other reviews, we stayed on monday and tuesday nights. stayed in room 3 at front nice room but some road noise, not a big problem though. good access to north wales and food was good.....

Although I booked and paid for the room via Orbitz, when we arrived at the hotel at 10pm, they did not have a record of our reservation. The staff was fantastic in dealing with this. They had one room available for that night but not for the remaining nights of our trip (it was a holiday weekend). They called the manager who called their sister hotels and found a room for us elsewhere. So, we only stayed at the Castle Hotel for one night but loved it. The double room (2 single beds) was bigger than most hotels. The hotel has great history and character. The staff offered us a free dinner because of the Orbitz mix up. Warning: there is another hotel 1 minute away called Ruthin Castle hotel--we originally went to that one by mistake. This hotel is right in the middle of town and we found that we missed it when we had to transfer to the "nicer" sister hotel.

The promised views weren't really in evidence from this room but it was quiet which was more important to us. The staff were friendly and helpful and the service was unobtrusive but good. The room was quirky with uneven floors and odd shaped walls, the beds were comfortable and the room clean and well serviced. The only downside was the hot water pipe running through the room which made it a little stuffy on a warm day.

Friendly Central HotelLooked a tad shabby on arrival but the room we had was immaculate and well appointed. This hotel enjoys a central location surrounded by some fascinating full-timbered buildings and historical features. Ruthin is well worth a wander if you can cope with the hills. Some great pubs close by which served us well on a warm summer's eve.

Good quality hotel that I've stayed in before. Main dissapointment was that the hotel restaurant had become a grill bar - not what we wanted and we dined elsewhere.

Castle Hotel, Ruthin, could have been excellent!Lovely location, although the room view was non-existant. Very nice room, and very large bathroom with seperate shower. We didn't have dinner but the breakfast was excellent. The one unfortunate thing that took this hotel down the ladder in the overall stakes was the noise from the adjacent pub which went on to 1.30 am at least. We actually went there for a drink as there was no point in trying to sleep until they closed down. We found other guests walking the hotel corridoors to try and change rooms for the very same reason. They didn't find any!

Food Great, Noise UnbearableThe hotel accommodation was good and did provide good value for money. The £20 allocation for evening meal if you book DB&B is difficult to spend as the portions are enormous and house wine at £5 is great (actually the wine is Echo Falls). On the minus side breakfast is only served until 09:30 and with everyone coming down at 09:00 my wife and I had to sit elsewhere on our own.Reception could do with have someone available most of the time, I had to go to receptio 4 times during the weekend and had to go around the hotel to find someone to help, even to the point that there was no-one available to pay and check outFinally the worst point of all, there is a disco next door that goes onto midnight and if you have a room at the back of the hotel you can forget about sleeping until it is finished. We stayed in room 15 and even with the windows shut it was impossible to sleep. Fortunately I did agree a reduction in the cost and because of the noise a would have to seriously consider staying here again, a real shame really as other than the minus points that should be easily sorted the hotel was a good base for North Wales and if you can book a room at the front of the hotel the views are brilliant.

The worst hotel experience I have ever had!Ruthin is a lovely town, but this hotel should be given a wide berth. The staff were unfriendly and the ratings don't allow me to go low enough to give a true picture of how bad this hotel is. When we arrived the staff seemed as though booking us in was an inconvenience, we had to sign for a remote control for the TV - and it wasn't anything special! When we left the reception area that had peeling wallpaper and messy files, we were told we would find the room if we followed the signs - that was as helpful as the staff got! Our room wasnt so much of a room as a fire escape... yes you have it .. it had FIRE ESCAPE on the door and this opened into a dark and gloomy room, which had windows with another FIRE ESCAPE sign over them that led out onto a metal fire escape.. so in the event of a fire the other guests would be charging through our room. We wondered how legal this was as the door would be locked and my understanding of fire regs is that fire doors aren't. We went to find the manager and the barmaid said she was the nearest thing, when I explained she replied and I quote "Its nothing to do with me", we then asked for a different room and she grudgingly as this was her whole demeanour, went to reception for some keys. She showed us two alternative rooms which were better and we opted for one of these. None of the furniture matched though- mixes of pine, new pine, antique pine, wicker, bamboo - very cheap and nasty curtains, badly fitted, carpeted bathroom - yuk! Poor quality tea and coffee, one of the lights in the room didn't work and under the dressing table it looked very grubby. The bed linen was fine and the shower was good and powerful but these were the only positives. Oh and the TV with the valuable remote? That was a cheap 12 inch portable with very poor reception even though we were in very close proximity of the local transmitter at Moel y Parc ( approx 8 miles as the crow flies)The next morning breakfast w

Good value, nice hotelNice hotel, very nice considering the price. However we had a room at the front which looks out on the town square. Was very noisy untill about 2am with people coming out of pubs. Would go again but definately get a room not at the front.

Stay at Castle Hotel RuthinThe Hotel was well situated in the middle of the Town with some stunning views of the Country side to the rear of the property. The rooms were clean, airy and spacious. The staff were very friendly and helpfull. The breakfast was very well presented and cooked, with plenty of choice for all tastes. The only major downside was the Pub next door and the noise levels from it.Initially we were in Rooms 12 and 14 which backed directly over the rear of the Pub garden and smokers corner, noise levels intolerable. Moved to the side of the Hotel but still very noisy from late night revelers exiting the pub.Great shame because it spoilt what could have been an excellent stay. Could not fault the Hotel apart from that.

The very best Welsh experience that one could have. Our room had the most magnificent view of this charming Welsh village, with original half timbered buildings and fascinating streets. A very happy place to be and we were sorry to leave. I concur with all of the favourable comments found in these nine pages of guest reviews; for the rest, I believe they would be more comfortable in an airport Holiday Inn Express.

Good value. We stayed 1 night for the purpose of gong to an wedding reception in Ruthin. We found the Castle Hotel to be very good value for money. We didn't have the evening meal as we were out for the evening reception but the breakfast the following morning was excellent. We could have done with a few more tea and coffee sachets in the bedroom as we only had two of each but apart from that everything was very satisfactory. We would certainly stay there again if we had the need to stay in Ruthin.

This is one of the best hotels we've stayed at. It was interestingly quirky but not falling down, the staff couldn't do enough, the food was amazing value for money and it was just generally a good travelling experience. I'd stayed at a \"discount motorway chain\" the night before on business and stayed here on the way back to South Wales and it was like chalk and cheese! Ruthin is also really interesting for families with a huge farm park down by the river. Our 17-month old loved it.

Good value for moneyThe hotel has a nice feel to it - not five star by any means but welcoming. It has a good location in a very pretty sqare in the centre of town.Staff generally very helpful. One was quite rude to me on one occasion, which is why I've not given a higher mark for customer service. The evening meals were unspectacular although the puddings were great! And the Full Welsh breakfast comes recommended.Don't get too excited by the \"use of spa facilities in sister hotel\" promise though - that hotel is in Llangollen, so not really on the doorstep!Room was generally good - clean and welcoming though you have to like homely decor! 3 problems: TV was tiny and I had trouble seeing it from the bed and shower was not what I would call hot at 7.30 in the morning, which was annoying. Also there was an adjoining door to next door's room through which you could hear everything, including ablutions, luckily my neighbour was pretty quiet!!The Late Rooms price was excellent value though and for a B&B price you get a much nicer experience here. I've stayed here before and would again.
