disgusting accomodationWe stayed at Scottish Apartment St James 2 minutes from Edinburgh Castle on the Royal Mile which was a great location, but oh my god the accommodation was revolting. Stickly floors horrible lino in the kitchen and bathroom, mismatched disgusting furniture which looked as though it had come from a reclaimation yard. Booked as the photos on the web site looked great but they were totally not from the same building. We had been totally misled. Even the cleaner was not interested in the missing plug in the bathroom totally rude! Will never stay there again so please do not book it it was disgusting.

Great location. Building is old but room is clean. We enjoyed it. Check in is about 1/2 mile away but they will hole your bags for you so you can tour, come back at check in and take a cab to the apartment. Parking a car is tough here and for the whole city. It is up 60 steps in a stone spiral staircase but that wasn't bad. Great place to base out of if you are staying in the city for a few days. Had oven, fridge, washer/dryer, and it is fairly large. We enjoyed it and would come back. Staff at the check in is friendly and helpful.

Nice apartment, would definitely stay again. Clean, spacious, good location. Bit of a pain that reception is a bit of a trek away though.

location great but a few problems: 2 of 3 lamps didn't work, duvet didn't fit duvet cover (which was too big), thick layer of dust on clothes rack in bedroom, which ended up on the white t-shirt I hung over it... some of the living room furniture was very worn and discoloured.

Apartmen's location was great - couldn't be betterd. It was also at a great price. The apartment was of a good size and the kitchen was modern and well equipped. The badroom and lounge were fine. The bathroom was dated and the bath needed attention. The shower was not "Power" and took 10 mins to get warm, then the temperature did not remain constant. Would stay again

really impressive apartment, well situated in edinburgh city centre. ideal for the event we were attending as it gave us the flexibility to come and go as we pleased and have our own space.

Great location, clean apartment with good facilities. Represented reasonable value given that Festival time is expensive in Edinburgh. Other people have commented on the distance you have to walk from the office and the number of stairs but I am not grumbling about that as neither were a problem if you are able bodied. The water system is a little noisy but other than that I would recommend Castle Apartments as a comfortable and central place to stay.

Top floor apartment St James Court. Roof leaking into bathroom and sash windows were all broken, so when you opened them they were in danger of falling into the road! I complained about this over the phone, and the staff member did not even apologise

Stayed at 'the castle apartments' for 3 nights. I absolutely loved the location of the apartment as the building is so historic and old . Having said this, there are alot of stairs to tackle (spiral stairway) and due to said building been so old there is no lift . This wasnt a problem for me, as i am fit and active but could see how it cause a problem for others. My apartment was practically at the top & in need of a bit of a refurbishment but it was still clean & comfortable. I think they are slowly doing the apartments up, as caught a glimpse of the lower apartments and they looked very chic indeed. Yes, i would definatley stay again as they are pretty good value for money and i felt abit like a princess going up and down my own private castle steps !!

the 4 flights of stairs may be an issue for some people, they weren't mentioned at the time of booking.

It's good for me because of the location and rates. I'm familiar with Edinburgh so I'd like to stay there again next time. Certainly it's better than a normal hotel room given the size of the rooms and the rate. The only problem is the noise from the water tank (or pipe), but it's not very big.

There wasnt view on the city centre, there is no kitchen with appielance /just fridge,ketle/. Room was clean, small but for the money it is allright. The top rooom you have to go 95 steps upstairs.

I would have appreciated details on the parking in the area, as we found this extremely challenging. Having said that, this is a brilliant location from which to see Edinburgh, and the apartment was clean, adequately furnished and met all of our needs. Certainly not suitable for anyone with physical challenges, as the winding stone steps are fairly difficult. I would stay here again in the future, but not if I had a car with me

check out time is at 10am. it's a bit of a walk from the main office to the apartment. If you've anything more than hand luggage a bus or a taxi would be better.

The most romantic place I have stayed, no hotel staff available, but good help over a phone. If you are young couple, looking for something a bit different this is the best place to stay.

We were aware that the apartment was not at the same address as the reception office but we were surprised it was a taxi ride away - and even more surprised that the room itself was at the top of a staircase of 97 spiral stone steps! There was no indication that this was the case in the written information we received beforehand, neither was it made clear to us by the receptionist, who could see we were not the fittest of people. We managed, but only because we were staying one night only and once we'd climbed the steps, there we stayed until we left in the morning. The television reception was very poor and the views over the city were only of chimneys unless you leaned right into the window recess. A disappointing experience.

We were expecting two apartments but were given two ensuite rooms on the top floor (approx 6 storeys high and 100 steps!) Our main problem was the spiral concrete staircase which was quite narrow and the steps were worn down towards the top. We found it quite perilous. The journey from the reception to the apartments was a bit of a trek too.

Everything is good, except the reception office is too far for carring a lot of laggages... But it still is the great choice of accomdation.

I had a lovely time in Edinburgh and the Castle Apartments are situated a stones throw away from Edinburgh Castle. There are no lifts/escalotors so be prepared to do a bit of walking when staying here. We were on the 5th floor (a total of 93 steps on a spiral staircase!) however this added to our experience as we could really feel the culture and history. The rooms were very clean and the beds extremley comfy. As it is situated on the Royal Mile also, you are not right in the centre of town but only 5 minutes walk away.
