Surrounding Location:
Situated at the easternmost point of the Algarve, and 5 minutes from the border with Spain, the historic town of Castro Marim with its typical Algarvian houses sprawls between two hills. On one stands a castle originating from the 13th / 14 th centuries, on the other a recently restored fort.
The castle affords an unrivalled panorama of the Guadiana river, the town, its salt pans and in the distance the surrounding hills and stretching to the other horizon the sea.
During four lively days and nights in August the small town plays host to a medieval festival. An unforgettable cultural, gastronomical and spectacular pageant.
The 5,000 acre salt marsh nature reserve offers visitors who like to walk or cycle a unique opportunity to absorb a bounty of natural environment.
The area boasts some of the finest stretches of beaches in the Algarve, mostly served by beach bars and restaurants. We can also recommend several good local restaurants a short drive away.
The not to be missed historic town of Tavira is a 20 minute drive along the coast with an 18 kilometre stretch of sandy beaches on the Ria Formosa National park. The town itself, probably the most beautiful in the Algarve, has a wealth of history to discover and many cosmopolitan restaurants situated in the narrow cobbled streets behind the riverfront.
