we booked through Orbitz and when we checked-in they up'd the price by $50 per night. thier excuse was they had to put in 2 queen beds, even though we booked for 3 Adults. we had no choice but to accept it as we just got of a 14hr flight from Sydney and just wanted to sleep.

I'm writing this review from my from at the Hotel Carmel. It's a tourist class hotel. The rooms are mission-style and fairly basic, but clean and the staff are friendly. For this price and location, it's a good deal. They regularly upgrade me to the next level of room when they have availability. You don't get a lot of amenities but it's comfortable and the best of Santa Monica lies at your doorstep."

Great location . Close to everything in Santa Monica. Good value for money.

My fiance and I stayed at Hotel Carmel for 2 nights. The only good thing about the hotel is the location. There is only one elevator in the hotel and took forever, our shower did not work, the rooms were very cluttered with furniture, we had to pay 12 dollors a day for valet parking and the people at the front desk at check out were very rude. We will never stay there again.

Hotel Carmel is an old hotel. There is an odd smell to the room and hallways. The hotel and valet staff were nice and helpful. You are able to walk to the Santa Monica Pier and the Third Street Promenade so location is great! We did not stay in our room much so it was ok. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean.

The location was fabulous. The Santa Monica Pier was two blocks away. There were numerous restaurants and shops within walking distance. The Third Street Promenade, a local attraction, was a block away. The staff did not meniton that there was a charge for wireless internet when I called to ask if they had DVD players in the room. I brought my laptop, but then had to pay $10 for the hookup. Also, they mention complimentary breakfast but set everything out early in the morning so even though there was an hour left before it ended, all the food had been eaten. they should replenish the supply.
