I stayed in this hotel for 6 nights last year with a Smartours group. The buffet breakfast that was included was fantastic, especially the made-to-order omelets. The room was large, and while the carpeting wasn't the cleanest, the room comfortable and the view great. Location was great--a few blocks from Tiananmen Square. Many amenities included, although some were under construction during my stay.

Great hotel, but not much English is spoken. We had trouble making spa reservations, communicating with wait staff, etc. If you speak some Mandarin, it's fine. The front desk staff and bell boy staff spoke enough to help us give directions to taxis. Our room was beautiful and relatively cheap; great location near Forbidden City and subway stop. The food was good, elevators are fast. We have no regrets.

I enjoyed my stay at Capital Hotel. I got a deluxe room and found it to be more than enough room and luxury. Everyone was very good to me and very helpful when I asked questions. Because I was there to learn more about China and it's history I didn't hang around the hotel other than to sleep. It was very quiet and the bathroom was impressive in both size and functionality. I would stay there again without question.

Wonderful hotel, great staff. Everyone had a smile and always tried their best to please. The hotel actually was within a comfortable walking distance of Tiannemen Square, the Forbidden City, the subway, and a hutong. Food in the Cafe was a little pricey.

I made a last minute trip to Beijing and found this hotel at a great price on Travelocity. It has a great location being minutes away from the Forbidden City, it has great amenities, including a bowling alley, swimming pool, restaurants, and KTV. I got it at a great price and after I got upgraded to a suite, it was even a better value. While it's not the newest hotel in Beijing, it still has some moves! The next time I am in Beijing, this would be my first choice as a price sensitive shopper..

This is a great hotel with a great location. The rate thru this website was great, however, everything including internet, breakfast, and all other services were additionals. We would stay again because we liked the environment better than the other 3, 5 star hotels we have stayed in Beijing.

This hotel exceeded our expectations in almost every way. Upon check-in, we were informed that the rooms we had reserved were unavailable, so we were upgraded, at no cost, to executive level rooms. The rooms were exceptional and the service in the restaurant and bar were outstanding.

Great location for tourist sites and an English speaking friendly place to stay. Beds are very firm, as is usual in China, nothing out of the ordinary. If I were to visit that area of Beijing again I would stay there without any hesitation. Only two possible downsides but both are minor and can likely be avoided. First... Had two double beds and wanted a Queen. They were never able to accomodate us with a larger bed during our 5 day stay. Second... Taxi driver overcharged us by double for the ride back to the airport. Not something I would normally associate with the hotel but the person checking us out specifically called for this taxi driver out of the line of cabs. My Chinese speaking friend thought it was a bit odd. Any way easy to avoid, just require taxi driver to show you the print out of the fare.

Two friends - both senior woman - spent two weeks at the Capitol Hotel. We were not on a tour - just had an agenda of things we wanted to see and do. Very nice hotel - Beautiful lobby and rooms (we stayed in a Capitol Club room). The Capitol Club had Concierge services on 15th floor. They were very helpful - served breakfast and had happy hour each day - even booked a flight to X'ian to see the Taracotta Soldiers, with driver and guide (just an FYI - we were only able to find Chinese style restrooms in X'ian - use the one on the plane before landing). Looking back - we should have asked our guide to find one - must have been a western style one somewhere. We used the Capitol Club services almost every day - they spoke very good English and were able to help us with everything! For instance - I forgot a perscription drug - they wrote a note in Chinese and sent me to a pharmacy where I could get it - also a note to return a bad IPod purchased at the at the Pearl Market - they even tried to make it work for me on my laptop first. The location was excellent (center of Beijing). Walked to Tianamin Square, Forbidden city and Wangfujing shopping district. There is also a 7-11 type store right across the street . We would definately stay at the Capitol Hotel again! Great value. Careful about Spa services though: we went for a pedicure- no one spoke any english and their idea of a pedicure was not ours. Good job of scraping feet - but also scraped our toe nails to the quick - no soak, polish etc. - just scrapping.

Nice hotel, comfortable and safe. The, breakfast buffet was good but very pricey (345 RMB for two) however the options are not very good unless you want a long walk. Although some same it is walking distane to Tenniman Square, the blocks are long and the square is huge. We took a taxi and it was well worth it. Taxis are cheap. The store on the second floor of the hotel has a broad selection of snacks, wines, etc. at good prices. A bottle of wine was 80 RMB wile a glass of the same type of wine was 50 RMB in a smoke filled lounge.

We liked the decor of this hotel - much nicer (and less expensive) than similar 5 star American chain hotels. Communication with the concierge was sometimes a problem. Some of them didn't speak much English, and they weren't helpful in booking tours, shows, dinner reservations etc, unless they were sponsored by the hotel. The location was great. We walked to Tianamen Square, the Forbidden city, and the pedestrian street

We went to China for 10 days, and it was amazing.......the hotel had an incredible location, staff was good, they provided everthing we requested, the room was very nice, overall the hotel is excellent......you always will see people cleaning it, people always greet you when they see you, and the restaurants offer very good food, a bit expensive though, but you can always ask at a front desk for the good restaurants the hotel has in its surroundings.......we will definately stay here again!!!!!in fact we are going to stop in Beijing for 3 nights in August 2008 before we go to Shanghai.....and we will be staying in the CAPITAL HOTEL......

"If you book The Capital Hotel select a room from building ""A"" These rooms are more sound proof and Have a larger bathroom with separeate glassed in shower as well as bath tub. There are numerous restaurants and lots od shopping. Most staff speak some English. The hotel is large and very clean. The beds are a little on the hard side. You are also centrally located to the heart of Beijing."

I debated a long time over choice of hotel and I made a great choice! Very friendly staff---spoke English at front desk, tour info, bell hop service, doormen, and maid staff. Very clean, safe, lots to do in hotel. GREAT location---close to subway, tourist sites, and shopping. Safe neighborhood with local eateries. Lots of resturants but we chose to eat at local places but did have room service one night (after climbing Great Wall) because we were too tired to go out. Quick service, good food, and reasonable price for room service. Four English TV stations: HBO, CNN Asia, ESPN, and CCTV9 (the local Chinese station in English). Didn't have time to use bowling alley or fitness center but they looked decent. I would definately stay there again and recommend to others!

"Our family of three visited Beijing and stayed at this hotel for a week this past June. My son (6.5 years) kept saying it's a perfect hotel and asked to come back next time if we visit again - he enjoyed the nice room, great food, and swiming/pool table facilities. We paid at about $* a night including everything (and upgrated to a luxury room). We consider it very much worth the price. The only minor problem we experienced is bug bite my son got (which may or may not from hotel room)."
