The Canterbury is a lovely boutique hotel in the heart of downtown Indy. Rooms were comfortable and quiet, staff was friendly and helpful. High speed Internet worked perfectly and made it possible for me to stay on top of my e-mail. Loved that it was connected to a mall, enabling me to venture out for meals safely in an unknown city.

Nothing. Filthy dirty hotel.my room looked more like a closet.

The Canterbury Hotel lived up to it's reputation as an elegant respite from the bustling nightlife right outside the door (St Elmos and a Colts Game!). Everything we needed was available to us. With the covered walkway from the convention center and the stadium right to the hotel kept us safe from any inclement weather. Getting around Indianapolis is very eazy. We loved our stay.

I was really looking forward to this trip, but the hotel was a tremendous disappointment. One day, housekeeping did not even make up my room. The following day I requested that the room be made up early, but didn't get done until after 4 pm, and then only with prodding. Then the subsequent morning, housekeeping was knocking at the room at 8 am to clean it. I hadn't even gotten out of bed yet. The common areas of the hotel (with the exception of the lobby) were not kept clean. On several occasions, room service trays placed outside of room doors in the morning (after breakfast) that needed to be picked up were still present when I returned back to the hotel in the evening. The fitness center was an old treamill and stationary bike. Supposedly, you could obtain a day pass to use the fitness institute about a mile away, but I never got a chance. I was also supposed to have breakfast included daily (up to a total cost of 25 daily), but I was too afraid to try the restaurant. The two bright spots are the location in central downtown and the private keyed entrance to City Centre Mall (as well as the skyway system), These might make up for some of the hotels downfalls if you could get a decent rate and only wanted to use the room for a bed to sleep in.

If you are tired of the sterile environment of big chain hotels, you will enjoy the classic feel of Canterbury. Staff were very friendly, interior was beautiful and historic, and the location is perfect. Other than them missing a wake up call, the hotel exceeded expectations. Note: no coffee maker in the room- kind of unusual nowadays, and if you need an iron, the bellman brings it up for you.

Convenient and old world. Wake up call has still not come, soap missing, no iron.

I stayed at the hotel for days for business and I wish I could have stayed longer for pleasure. The room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. I had lunch in the restaurant which was very good. I enjoy older hotels instead of staying at your typical chain property and The Canterbury exceeded my expectations. Plus, you can't beat the location! It's right in the heart of downtown, next to great restaurants and the mall. I would definitely stay here again!

Well, I only did a very short one night stay arriving late. The european style and very professional service was top notch. My room fridge did not work though. I did not ask them to fix it but commented upon checkout.

Took more than an hour to get a bucket of ice to my room as they did not have ice makers on any of the floors. Had to call numerous times to get information on what type of food was available 24 hours. Valet workers were exceptionally courteous and helpful.

Location. Slow room service, took an hour to get extra pillow and blanket. Parking valet and check in clerk were polite and swift. Night staff service was very slow. It took an hour to get an extra pillow and blanket. Room was clean but very small. It needed some maintenance attention. Ceiling above shower was water stained and floor lamp did not work. Be prepared to pay a daily parking garage fee of $20 if you use the valet service. Do not use this hotel for a family stay unless you have multiple rooms.

I stayed at the Canterbury for two nights in September of 2008. Check in was very quick. Lobby was small but very attractive. Sparkling chandaliers, a shiny piano, and antique or antique looking furniture. The room was small but well-appointed. The bathroom was attractive, too. The corners were a little dusty, and there was a hair in the bathtub and in the corner, but otherwise clean. The vanity had large drawers. The room furniture was handsome. The rooms have an old, classic feel; not contemporary. For me, that was positive since I think old hotels are charming. Room service breakfast was tasty and well-presented. The downside was that there was no iron. Had to call to request an iron. The one brought was leaking water. Had to request a second. When plugged in, it blew the fuse in the room. A housekeeper working on the floor took the iron and dress to a vacant room and helped iron it. She was very helpful and nice. The bar downstairs is really charming—lots of dark wood, classic art, and sleek leather couches to sit and chat. The wedding reception I attended at the hotel was well-done. The food was fine for banquet-style chicken. The table captains were attentive and professional. All staff was friendly and helpful. Hotel has a great location near many things to do and see. I would definitely return to this hotel.

First, you need a good bed and quiet mechanical systems. Canterbury has it! Second, a good staff from the front door to the back door. Canterbury has it. Need more attention to details; food trays left in hall for entire day; Silver service in dining room badly in need of polishing; creamer was black.

We used this Hotel for our honeymoon. The check in was nice, and friendly. However, when we got to our room, it was very small, and the people in the room next door were very loud and you could hear everything they said. There was a door in our room that attatched to our noisy, parting neighbors, and about 11pm, they attempted to get in our room. The complimentary breakfast is not what you think... Its not any entree its anything under 10.50... with you paying the rest. Our Breakfast costed the 2 of us 35.00. There was no Bath Robes like they advertised... Really not what we expected at all!!! Very Very disappointing.

Nothing. Everything for the most part. I already sent one in when I got back home. Actually I checked out of this hotel and stayed at a different one it was so bad.

Old-English feel. Very clean. Execellent auxillary staff (housekeeping, valets). Avoid delays by calling to confirm registration and room availability. Also ask about parking. Parking extra (20/day). Service at in-house restaurant slow. Other restaurants very close.

Front desk manager is abrupt and obnoxious. He was very rude to his staff. We witnessed his diva like temper on multiple occasions.(we were only there for three nights) Evening valet was being questioned by local police, aggressively, during our second night stay.(uneasy feeling) Room was kept clean, hallways had room service trays with left over food from our first night to the last night of our stay.(We would joke about the fact that the cleaning staff had to step over those trays to access the rooms? Great location to enjoy Indianapolis. We would not stay there ever again, unfortunately. To us the staff and management make the experience. Rooms are tiny, beds were crispy.

Location was excellent. Very outdated. This hotel needs updated very badly. They also supplied 1 towel and 2 hand towels - no wash cloths. The bathroom tile needed to have the grout redone. It was stained and dirty. There were hairs everywhere in the shower - not a very clean room. Also, upon arriving at the hotel, there was no valet to greet me and I waited for 10 minutes, but none arrived. I double parked long enough to bring my luggage inside and to my room, then upon leaving, the front desk asked if I needed any assistance - after I lugged it all upstairs myself. It would not be what I think of for a 4-star hotel!

I was expecting a high-quality, well-maintained property given the rating and price. Instead, I walked into a very small lobby with no other common areas, no pool, tiny fitness facility, average reception service. The elevators were in an embarrassing condition as well. While the room was adequate, there was peeling wallpaper and very small quarters. The positives were that it's in a prime location, connected to the mall and offers free bottled water and turndown service.

For being a small hotel, I was pleasantly surprised with the entire stay. My room far exceeded my expectations, it was actually a two room suite. The staff was attentive and exceedingly helpful. The hotel had private access to Circle Mall and I was only a couple of blocks from my downtown meeting. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

The beds were comfortable. Lots of space in the bathroom. The room was ridiculously small. Barely fit the bed and chair and TV.
