Cambridge House is a Visit Britain 4 star rated Guest House (not a hotel), situated in the centre of Windermere in the heart of the English Lake District. Cambridge House is a small, friendly family owned guest house built in the traditional Lakeland style. Enjoying a village centre location offers ideal accommodation for your Lake District holiday. Being only a minutes walk from the numerous shops, restaurants and pubs of Windermere, a mere 5 minute walk from the railway and coach station, and only a pleasant 15 minute walk to the beautiful Lake Windermere. Rydal Mount and Dove Cottage, both former homes of Wordsworth are close by. After taking the Windermere Ferry it's a short walk to Sawrey where Beatrix Potter's characters sprang to life, or Hill Top another of her homes. Cambridge House takes pride in its warm, friendly atmosphere & home-cooked breakfasts, whether a Full English or Vegetarian breakfast or something from our lighter alternatives, our aim is to give our guests that 'home from home' feel, and provide an enjoyable holiday in Windermere. All rooms are en-suite & feature flat screen tv, satellite channels, DVD, CD player and complimentary use of CD & DVD library - Cambridge House has high standards all rooms offer home from home comfort we do not have a car park, there is ample on road free/safe parking and a pay & display 2 minutes away. spotless!This guest house was lovely, spotlessly clean and nicely decorated,a very comfy bed,lovely hosts and very good food all lead to us having a wonderful stay. The only slight whinge is that breakfast is very early and short time period for holiday time!

fantastic B&BWhen we arrived we were welcomed so cheerfully we felt at home right away.We had two rooms a twin and a double both were spotless great beds and small but clean and smart shower rooms. Breakfast was to be ordered the night before and we were told if you want two of anything just put it on the sheet in the hall great and we didnt have to have anything we didnt want. All 4 of us loved it and would go back again as friends Very close to center of Windemere but quiet street and we had a parking permit so no problems there THANKS

A short refreshing break awayWe wanted to have a couple of days away to refresh our batteries and decided that the lakes would be a good place to go. We stayed at Cambridge House in Windermere and found the accomodation to be just what we needed, clean and comfortable with a huge breakfast to start our day. We were made to feel very welcome by our host. We were within a short walk of Bowness with all the facilities of lake Windermere for daytime activities and in the town centre of Windermere for evening meals and liquid refreshment. Windermere is in an excellent location for visiting other parts of the lake district and the town has places to book trips either walking or mini bus tours. This is a place that we would visit again and would certainly recommend.

Comfortable room with DVDs and delicious breakfastThe room was big and a nice change from the small room in the London hotel. The DVD library was also very nice. The accommodation is centrally located in Windermere and we could walk to pubs and shops. The English breakfast was very delicious and more than enough. You order the night before which saves hassles in the morning. The owner was very friendly. The only problem we had was that the owner wanted to know exactly what time we will be arriving. As we have never travelled from London to the Lake Districts and had to struggle with maps, rain and traffic it was impossible to know exactly what time we will arrive - I had to keep on phoning the owner and keep her posted. Management Response The reason we require an arrival time, is that we do not have a manned reception. We do not specify a time you have to arrive, we just ask what time you plan to arrive, so that we can ensure someone is at the guest house to meet you - it would be more frustrating I think to have driven a long way and not be able to gain access to your room because nobody is there to meet you.

Not very impressedAdequate room, but not a very comfortable bed and fairly cramped ensuite shower room. Also a heated towel rail which wouldn't switch off so the room got very stuffy at times. Central location, if you want to stay in Windermere itself. We chose this Guest House for the extra use of leisure facilities, which were fine, but we had to drive to get to them (you could walk, but we were tired after hiking and just wanted a soak!)Management ResponseWe have purchased quality beds but its unfortunate they cannot accomodate everyone's specific needs, (they are memory foam), the en-suites are of average size. The towel rail does switch off the control is on the radiator, the guest only had to ask if they could not manage it. It does state on the details that the free use leisure facilities are approx 1 mile from the guest house.

Lots of RulesOur stay at the Cambridge House was very nice and the hosts were very helpful. However there were a lot of rules such as no takeaway in the rooms and no payment by card that seemed a little over the top that detracted from the experience. The rooms were also a little on the small side. Other than that, I would recommend the hotel.

From the moment we were greeted at the door, we had a very enjoyable stay here. It was an exceptionally cold weekend but our room was warm and cosy and the bed was very comfortable - three good night sleeps were followed by freshly cooked and excellent breakfasts. The proximity of good restaurants was an added bonus.

Good cental location for Windermere & the south Lakes. We had concerns about car parking issues but we didn't have any problems. Friendly but not intrusive hotelier. Good breakfast. Good facilities in the room. Overall, a pleasant stay.

this hotel was very good value for money.the ensuite rooms were clean and had a flat screen tv with freeview, a dvd player and a cd player. there were cds, dvds, board games, books and magazines to use at no extra charge. in the morning there was fruit juice, cereals, fruit, yogurt, toast and a full english breakfast. delicious! there are shops, pubs and restuarants in the immediate vicinity and the lake at bowness is about a mile away. we were made to feel very welcome here and we will definitely be visiting again in the future.

Great place to stay as a base for the Lakes. The staff are friendly, helpful, and generous with the food and keep the rooms to a high standard. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Cambridge House to anyone

Although it was only bed & breakfast the food was lovely. The proprietor was very friendly and hospitable. The hotel was very cosy and warm with a homely feel.

This was a lovely guest house to stay at. Debbie and Dave were very friendly and always happy to help. They also know a lot about the surrounding area which made my trip easier to organise. Although the breakfasts were big (which you need on a walking holiday), the food was grilled so they were healthy. I would have wanted a harder bed to sleep on, but I suppose this was so that noise is reduced within rooms. The guest house was easy to get to, although parking could have been better. I would stay there again and would recommend it to anyone planning to go to Windermere and the Lake District.

We had a comfortable and very pleasant stay, the owners (Debbie and Dave) treated us very well, Aproblem developed with the heating system during one night of our stay, it was totally beyond their control and they dealt with it very well indeed and in a timely manner even though it was a weekend....Many thanks to them and I will stay again when I have the opportunity.
