Amazing value at £20 per night for an ensuite single room in Edinburgh. Room was spacious, clean but pretty basic, breakfast OK.

dissapointed in cairn Hotel was old and tatty, receptionist totally incompetent although pleasant.room was dirty .marks on the wall .shower was dirty and needed regrouting.window did not lock correctly.we were offered breakfast at a reasonable rate but declined when we saw the lack of hygiene in the room. My wife wanted to leave for another hotel but availabity was a problem so we had to stay put. it wasw a pity as edinburgh was such a beautiful city. this standard of hotel would not be acceptable in ireland

This hotel is very clean and tidy, and it is located in good place, near the Calton Hill area. It is close to the bus station and the train station (around 10 min walk to either of them) and it is close to the city center and the castle (a little more than 20 min walk). It is a simple hotel, but it is has a good value for money. I would definetely consider staying there again when I return to Edinburgh.

Good value for EdinburghNice quiet hotel, close enough to city attractions if you don't mind a short walk. Room a bit grubby in places but staff friendly and helpful and room comfortable. Hotel is on a quiet road so no disturbance at night.

Although I only stayed one night I can not recommend this hotel highly enough. The location was convenient, 10 minutes walk to Waverley Bridge where you catch the Tour buses and central to all types of restaurants and a multiplex cinema. If you want 5 Star then pay 5 star prices. If you want warm friendly service and an excellent breakfast go to the Cairn Hotel. The rooms even had Tea and Coffee making facilities, plus amenity packs in the bathroom. \great Hotel for what we paid.

The location was great because it was far enough away from the city noise and the construction. Room was clean and reception was helpful.

The hotel had friendly staff and were very helpful in assisting me with regards to visiting Edinburgh. Rooms were sizeable and amenities were included. Carpets were a bit dusty though. Overall very good value for money when booking a value for money place 5 mins away from Princes St.

Very good for the price, but some little touches need to be done to the rooms - strange damp bulge on outside wall of shower for example.

Just fineIt's good for a two-star hotel. Wouldn't recommend room 216, as the shower door was broken and the mildew on the bathroom walls disgusting. But, hey, for £50 in the middle of a busy summer in Edinburgh, do you think I'm complaining? Nah.

Great location. That's about it.This hotel is in a great location for walking around New Town and Old Town.Unfortunately, the staff are lacking. First, I asked for a bottle opener, and the man at the desk acted like I was bothering him. Second, you can't take a room key with you. You have to turn it in every time you leave the hotel. The problem with this is that you're supposed to confirm that you're staying there to get it back each time, but that doesn't happen. I just said "Room ---" and this man gave me the key. (There was a new person behind the desk every day, so I know he didn't recognize me.) That's not safe. The room itself was tiny and dirty. The mug provided for tea and coffee was dirty. The window could not be closed. (It was constantly open by 15 cm.) The bathroom was very nice, but for the price, I expect much more.

A very cosy warm clean and sensibly priced hotel within walking distance of everything. Friendly and helpful staff. Free wifi(a big plus for me, some rip-off hotels are still actually charging for this basic service). Would most definitely stay again when in Edinburgh. Parking can be difficult, but then it is difficult everywhere in Edinburgh. Highly recommended for the traveler who wants a good basic service for a good price.

Cairn Hotelstaff were very pleasant and helpful. The bathroom washhand basin was cracked and I could have done with a hair dryer, otherwise the room was reasonable
