My husband and I recently visited San Diego for a conference that was being held at a nother hotel and convention center. A local told us not to stay in the area of the convention and Said that the area around the Britt Scripps Inn would be a nicer area. H e was so right. We had the opportunity to stay in the carriage house and it was so great. The parking was right outside of our House which was very convenient. THe room was very nice and cozy. I have an allergy to down so they made sure that everything with down had been removed before we got there. The breakfast was always great and We LOVED the Scones. Everyone was so kind and extremely thoughtful.

Although we had a bumpy check-in, all worries were quickly elimated by the over eager and friendly staff. Staying in a historical home such as this one is a treat in not only the architecture it is also a special treat when it is the holiday season and the home is awakened with lights and decorations. It was a very wonderful evening. Another treat was breakfast, not only did we not have to wake up before dawn to sit down for breakfast as most B&B's require, we were treated to sleeping in until 9:00 and were met with a wonderful selection of teas, scones and lump crab benedict. I was highly cautious of this ambitious creation but have one word to sum it up, Yum-mo! Yum as in licious and mo as in more please... One more area tip, although the B&B offered a nice selection of wine and cheeses for an afternoon meet and greet, we quickly finished the very limited selection, when we inquired about more we were informed that the chef only prepares a set amount and were directed to a nearby market. At first glance this market appeared that it might be similiar to a 7-11 or Circle K and while I was prepared to find wine in a box I was pleasantly surprise that this market has a very nice selection of very good and drinkable wines and an equally diverse selection. So if you find that you need more than your allotment by the hotel, you will not be let down by the local market!

The Britt Scripps Inn is a gem, without doubt. It is unique in every way, and convenient to both the downtown and to Balboa Park (only a short walk to the west side of the park grounds). All the rooms are well-appointed, but I would definitely recommend the rooms on the upper floor and facing the downtown. These include Governors, Renaissance, and Aesthetic. The made-to-order breakfast was fantastic, and served in a polite, welcoming manner. Such a nice way to start the day. Short drive to the Gaslamp Quarter - too far to walk. All in all, a highly recommended departure from the norm when you find yourself in San Diego.

Britt Scripps Inn is a beautifully refurbished B&B just a block from Balboa Park. The rooms are lovely and very comfortable, and I loved everything from the clawfoot tub to the comfy robes to the gorgeous antiques. Staff was knowledgable and friendly. Breakfast both days was delicious- a gourmet two course affair, complete with fresh scones, fruit, and choice of omelet/eggs, french toast, granola with yogurt, etc. Amazing. We didn't even rent a car. We walked to the park each day and went to museums and concerts (didn't even go to the San Diego Zoo but its right there.) Very relaxing stay.

My wife and I spent the past weekend at the Britt Scripps hotel, and couldn't have been more pleased. It's a beautiful turn-of-the-century Victorian that's been converted to a bed and breakfast. The staff was great, very accomodating, and looked after our every need. Our room was wonderful; there was obviously a lot of thought put into furniture and accoutrement selection, but with modern amenities. Balboa Park is only two blocks away; we were able to ride our bikes everywhere, and always felt very safe. Forget the Del; if you're looking for a romantic getaway to San Diego, look no further than the Britt Scripps.

My stay at the hotel was very relaxing. The staff was friendly, the breakfast in the morning was delicious, and the hotel was beautiful. The problems I had with it were that there weren't enough people on staff to be organized. Other than that the hotel was great. Not exactly a lot for your money, but definitely a friendly and relaxing atmosphere.

Britt Scripps B & B ended up being disappointing. Anyone arriving at night was right outside my door, and I was awakened frequently. NO management was ever seen, and I stayed for 6 nights! For two or three of those nights, I was the only person staying in the house. My time was one of little sleep. The morning chef did not come when I was the only person in the house, which made me feel less valuable again. The regular staff was great which improved my stay.
