We chose the British Colonial over the Cable Beach resorts so that we'd be walking distance from the sites we wanted to see in the town of Nassau - the Straw Market, Queen's Staircase, Fort Fincastle, shopping on Bay Street. We don't gamble and so the absence of a casino at our hotel was a plus to us, not a minus. The beach was small but fully adequate, with plenty of lounge chairs at the beach and pool, as well as floating cushions and inner tubes to laze in the water, or kayaks to tool around in (all at no charge). The hotel is beautiful, and beautifully appointed and maintained: a large lobby with lots of beautiful marble, adequate hotel room with a really great (and huge) bathroom, with both a shower and a tub, and plenty of mirrors (3 in the bathroom and 1 in the room). The housekeeping service was very neat and tidy, with very friendly and upbeat staff. The concierge was especially friendly and helpful with information and advice. The one negative about the hotel was that they were doing substantial reconstruction of several of their dining spots, and so only two of their four bars/restaurants were available. But we were there in mid-July, and I assume they were doing the construction then because it was off-season, and the hotel (and pretty much the whole island) were relatively uncrowded. Surprisingly, though, there were not a lot of restaurant choices outside the hotel. Bay Street, the prime shopping street with Cartier, Little Switzerland, and dozens of other jewelry shops is just a block away, and yet we walked for block after block and couldn't find a nice restaurant, so the hotels seem to be where most of the nice eateries are. If you're looking for a glitzy place with lots of noise and hubub, go to a Cable Beach hotel or to Paradise Island. But if you like a quieter, mellow vacation, with gracious, friendly service and classically elegant surroundings, the British Colonial Hilton is a nice choice.

On 2nd day no towels at pool/beach, area manager stepped up remedied problem & gave a discount on my stay. No towels at pool/beach area. Friendly, clean, very nice stay.

I booked a romance package through the Hilton web site. It clearly said that the romance package included sparkling wine and breakfast in the room - although there was a disclaimer that the breakfast could be in a restaurant of the the hotel's choosing. When I asked about the possibility of breakfast in the room, though, the front desk clerk/receptionist said, "we never do that for the romance package." If the hotel NEVER offers the breakfast in the room for the romance package, then it should not advertise the possibility of breakfast in the room for the romance package. I chose the romance package and not the normal "room with breakfast" option solely to enjoy a romantic breakfast in the room. When I pointed out that the Hilton website advertised breakfast in the room, the clerk became argumentative and said that it was not on the website. She asked me to print it out and show her - an idea that struck me as strange. Why should I be responsible for showing a Hilton employee a Hilton hotel package? It should have been her responsibility to look up the information and confirm it proactively. A manager later on did come and offer us the breakfast in the room, but it was only after a long and frustrating discussion with Tanya. Needless to say, there was scant little romantic mood left for the "romance package." The sparkling wine that was supposed to be part of the package was also only delivered very late - after 10 pm - and that only after repeated reminders to the front desk that we had not received the wine yet. To top it all off, the room did not have any bath towels in it. We only got the towels after many requests!

I used to stay in this hotel five years ago for business and the last time I was there I promised never to be back. This time I decided to stay becasue I friend of mine also there for business made the reservation in this hotel. So, I decided to give it a shot. I was not impressed considering the rate is still high and they charge you many service charges. They charge you for breathing! Basically! They charged me $29 for a 5 minute call...something like that. My recommendation...stay somewhere else! Room service took almost 3 hours! They did not charge me for the food but still, the food was cold and I waited all that time. Good Luck!

The hotel was very convenient to the US Embassy which was the main purpose of our trip. The service in the restaurant could have been a little bit more friendly and professional. Nice hotel, good location to Bay Street and shopping and also to the US Embassy. The pool and beach were nice and the view overlooking the cruise ships was nice. Also close to Paradise Island our next destination.

Staying at the Hilton was a wonderful experience the staff is friendly and helpful and all the facilities are well maintained. I was a little disappointed to not find much by the way of activities. They also charge surcharges on just about everything but they are reasonable and you will not find anything better on the island.

I was immediately greeted by the staff and they removed my luggage from the shuttle. They were courteous and directed me to the front desk for checking in. Everything went smoothly from there. I enjoyed the staff, especially Phillip who seemed to work everywhere in the hotel. I had a problem with the air conditioning in my room and they fixed it to my satisfaction. The room, although on the small side, was very clean and decorated in a contemporary style. The hotel food was satisfactory. I ate there the entire weekend. The service in the Portifino Restaurant was a little lacking. I had to request cream for my coffee and look for the person to pay for my bill each time that I went. The grounds were well kept. The bar was comfortable and the staff was willing to personalize my drinks and make them the way I liked them. The hotel was quiet and comfortable and was perfect for a quiet getaway. This was not a hotel for a party experience. Although there were children, they were well-mannered and monitored by their parents. My daughter and I wanted to spend a quiet weekend celebrating her new job. That was exactly what we got. To sum things up, I/we truly enjoyed our weekend getaway and would recommend the British Colonial Hilton (Nassau) any day.

View of the cruise ships. Hotel is run down. The foyer in my room had water on the carpet (probably from air condition problem). The room was moldy. The pool is small; lobby furniture is old and worn; food was below average.

The hotel, staff, beach, pool were excellent. I especially enjoyed the fact that it was NOT crawling with crazed spring breakers. The only problem is that there is NO spa on the premises, as advertised in the write up. Swimming at the beach was wonderful, but not a good snorkel spot - book a chartered boat trip for that. Other than that, loved it!

Hotel Staff was Excellent. Rooms carpet was very dirty, rooms were very small. Overall it was a nice hotel, but not even as close to as nice as the Atlantis in which you gave the same amount of stars. Food services were great, but expensive. Hotel service was very excellent, carpet in the room was bad, and the room itself was only as big as the bathroom. We enjoyed our stay, and would stay at this hotel again in the future.

"Beautiful hotel, friendly staff-slow but very nice, small slightly noisy rooms but the beach makes up for most flaws! (& great daquiaris!)"

I really like the staff. Vending service after hours when the gift shop is closed. First impression was that the hotel dominated this side of the island. That was nice. Even though the weather did not cooperate, my wife and I enjoyed staying at the Hilton. The staff was very helpful and super friendly. All our needs were met. I am looking forward to returning.

Not a resort, but has a nice beach and good food. Shower's water temperature fluctuates. No access to Atlantis activities. This hotel is not a resort and does not have access to Atlantis aquarium or water activities (Paradise Island), but it does have a nice small beach. The rooms are not that large in size but are comfortable with a nice bathroom. Restaurant is fairly priced with good food and all the staff was nice and helpful.

"Don' stay here! In five days, we could not get housekeeping to service our room after multiple requests were made. In addition, you get charged an automatic gratuity for housekeeping- which I refused to pay. We chose to get a pedicure, manicure, and a massage. The staff was extremely unprofessional and the spa facility was disgusting."

Location. Customer Service was unfriendly and rude. On other hotel stays through, I never felt like I was given different treatment than had I been a normal customer, but this hotel definitely gave us the smallest room with the worst location and view. The hallway to our room was often filled with boxes that made it hard to pass and it made me feel like I was the one in the way. Customer service was unresponsive and sent us on a run around. Overall I was dissatisfied because I did not feel like a valued guest.

"This is a great hotel. I highly recommend it if you are looking for a location in downtown Nassau, with proximity to all the shops and restaurants. The staff is overall extremely friendly. The beach is somewhat small but it is amazing to lie on the beach and see cruise shipping pulling in and out."

The staff were very friendly. The bed was like a rock. The hotel is in a prime location. The buffet at the hotels restaurant was nice. We didn't feel it was very romantic - we somehow got booked for twin beds, ended up with a full size. We are both 6ft tall so our feet hung off and the bed was as hard as a rock. Definitely not conducive to romance! There were no lovely balconies and our view was of McDonald's across the street. A paper plate was floating in the ocean where we swam and a rodent crossed our path the first night by the pool.

Downtown location close to shopping and casinos. Mold in shower, poor overall cleanliness. Small pool and beach area. Food in restaurant was poor. Room was not ready when promised, attempted to first put us in a room with 2 dbl beds, we requested KS non smoking, "Patrice" said she could accommodate request then proceeded to give us a QS room. Yes we got a great rate, but our recent experience indicates hotels treat us like dirt because of the rate we receive. The Four star rating is not appropriate for this hotel. I would of went to plan B if I could not secure a 4 star hotel in Nassau. The booking in MIA at the Hard Rock wanted to kick us out before our stay ended, the hotel in BNA originally put us in the basement next to the hotels laundry facility and the room problems in Nassau.
