OKStayed for 1 night when going to a friend's party. When we arrived receptionist asked if I was part of the dart's team, which my husband thought was hilarious. Showed to 4 poster room on ground floor, which hadn't been made up. Came back an hour later and it was. No air con and on the ground floor, so discovered when we had the window open at night it was on main road and very noisy. Shower kept going either freezing or boiling. 5 foot bed surround with a 4ft 6" mattress in it....Staff were friendly enough and it was clean. Couldn't beat it for value. Breakfast the usual Britannia nightmare, had run out of everything and it all trickled in at a snail's pace. Did the job, if I ever went again I'd ask for a room at the back.

The hotel room was dirty to the point where we found a beer bottle lid on the floor and 20 pence piece. the bathroom lino was split in the area where you get out of the bath and the wood panelling behind the sink had a large splinter that actually stuck in my foot as I got washed in the morning. The bed sheets were clean however the bedspread on top was badly stained and the bed itself was in need of replacing. I did not manage to get any sleep as the room we were in was above the main reception and the staff were extremely noisy through the night. I regularly stay away in hotels with my job and I have never had such an uncomfortable, bad night before. The cutlery and crockery in the morning at breakfast was dirty and the butter and jam that people had taken to their table to have with breakfast that was not used was put back into the breakfast section for other customers to use. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone and would certainly never go back thier.

family reunionThe room and sheets were spanking clean but although there was plenty of hot water the plug in the sink didn't work properly and the cold tap in the bathroom was a mere dribble. it was also annoying that the room staff knocked but walked straight in at 8,30 am on the first morning (luckily it wasn't embarassing but it could have been, and knocked again at 8.30 the second morning. Surely the staff must have a list of which rooms are occupied? We did not need to vacate untill at least 10pm so I didn't expect to have to hang a 'do not disturb' sign for that early. The breakfast on the first morning was excellent, but the second was extremely disappointing with most items overdone and no choice of egg other than watery scrambled. Both were vastly overpriced at £9.95. My brother had an extensive buffet at the Premier Inn for £7.50. Having said that the restaurant manager let us off the cost of one breakfast on the second morning after we complained.

Sleepless in StockportThe hotel says it is undergoing refurbishment, however the only evidence of that was some missing wallpaper on a couple of walls in the corridor. My room backed onto the toilets of the Gym area, and I could hear every flush quite clearly! Certainly some soundproofing is required here. The room was also road facing which is a very busy road - although the windows were double glazed they let in a lot of noise from the road.Evidence of damp was seen on some internal walls in the room. The actual decor of the room was fine and the staff helpful, but if I had paid full price for the room I would have felt cheated! I would only stay again if the room was very cheap

Nice hotel in a good location for what I wanted. Staff were very friendly and very helpful. The room wasn't too hot and stuffy unlike a lot of hotel rooms I have stayed in in the past.Only negative, the hot water was frighteningly hot.

I was told that this hotel was once labeled the dirtiest in the UK. Have no fear it is not now. The room was clean the bathroom was better then some hotels I have stayed in and paid more for. And I will have no hesitation in booking in there again

Although perhaps a little old fashioned compared to modern motorway and lodge style hotels the Britannia at Stockport offered very good value for money and was quite adequate in all respects. There are in-house facilities such as a pool etc which I did not have time to try and which you would not get in the mnore modern lodges etc. I did not have time to have any meals on this visit nor did I use the bar but it looked smart and people were certainly enjoying themselves. The car parking was more than adequate and free of charge. I would be quite happy to re-visit this hotel and no doubt will when the need arises.

Enjoyable stayOn arriving at the Brittannia we were welcomed and dealt with very quickly and efficiently although the receptionist did tell us to go the wrong way for the lift and we had to carry the suitcase up some stairs unecessarily because of this. We also waited for our key while another person was being dealt with, which really wasn't necessary. The room was very nicely furnished although a small beside cabinet on both sides of the bed would have been preferable to one large side cabinet on one side. Also the table the television was standing on could have had draws to give some extra storage space. One day we came back when our room was being cleaned and the door was open with nobody around, and although naturally you don't leave valuables around you do like to think whatever is there is secure, a short time later the cleaner came back to vacuum the room.We stayed without breakfast so I cannot comment on the food as we were eating out with family. This was a most enoyable stay and we would definitely stay here again

Very average.Very good price, but other than that nothing special at all. Room is small and old fashioned. Location is not hnady for transportation and the heating had been switched off even though it was cold in the room. The reason given by the management was that head office had decided it was warm enough.

value for moneyWas pleasantly surprised after reading some reviews. Our refurbished room was clean and comfortable, the heating wasnt on but when we went to reception they gave us a fan heater and the receptionist called later with 2 extra quilts so we were very snug. A different receptionist searched our room for our keys when we phoned in from some distance away to ask her to check if we'd left them behind, we had no complaints at all about the staff in fact they were all friendly and helpful. Our room was at the far end of the block so we werent affected by any noise I did bring a toilet roll after reading a previous review and sure enough there were 6 pieces of paper on a roll which had been neatly turned over! fortunately a full roll appeared next day. For the lateroom price we paid it was excellent value for money even if we didnt get to swim or use the sauna both of which only had 2 people using them.

newly refurbished but filthythe room we stayed in was newly refurbished and smelt strongly of paint!! I think it was rented out too soon as it triggered my asthma, the paint fumes were that strong. The room was not cleaned properly, just neatened before we arrived as the tea pot had not been washed out and there was dried tea in it!!! the buttons to flush the toilet were filthy with filthy fingerprints on it!Also checkin in took much longer than it should. the area where the recepton desk is (behind the reception desk, which you see when stand there checkin in) is unsightly!!!makes u want to cancel ur booking and find another place to stay..and the carpets were soiled.

Not really very impressedI thought the hotel looked tired and shabby. In the room, wallpaper was peeling from the walls, the curtains didn't close properly and I would only describe it as clean-ish. The shower rose was coming away from the wall, making me move in perculiar positions to get under the flow of water. There were only a few sheets of toilet paper left in the bathroom and I had to go and ask for another roll. I had to wait a long time at reception to check in and out and the lady on reception when I was checking out was rather abrupt - I know she was dealing with another group who were complaining, but that wasn't my fault. I came away feeling very let down and disappointed.

OK.......but nothing to write home aboutI chose the hotel on it's price so my expectations were not high. Check-in was lengthy and the reception staff could have worked a little more efficiently to clear the waiting guests. Room was clean and shower was quiet powerful. when i went to bed, the mattress was of the lowest quality and i had difficulty getting to sleep. i had to wedge myself between various springs to get sleep. i never have any problems sleeping but that night i did. The wake-up call that was ordered did not work. i was late getting to a meeting as i overslept. i questioned the night porter during shift change and he said that he had done it but the system is faulty. he explained that just my room and one other wanted wake-up calls. if he knew the system was faulty he should have called each room to ensure we got up for our meetings. Breakfast is well over priced. you can hear people in the room above which can wake you up. room overlooked a dirty service area. it would have been ok for one night if the mattress had been better. i am not fussy at all usually.
