How is the Britannia Hotel Birmingham STILL open? Bed felt like I was sleeping on the pavement, hotel room itself disgustingly dirty, toilet seat basically hanging off, reception highly unco-operative. DON'T STAY HERE.

Very central, but needs a lot of refurbishment, and service leaves a lot to be desired.

I am glad I was not paying full rate, there was a notice in the foyer stating the hotel was undergoing a 3m refit and in my opinion it needs to be soon. The furnature and fittings are of good quality and the food was good although a self toaster at the breakfast buffet would help. Of the small anoyances were a bulb missing from the table lamp, the tv remote did not work and the doors on the very tall wardrobe did not fit well. The staff I dealt with were very helpful and efficient.

The room had a constant noise, like being on a plane making sleeping nearly impossible. Beds very uncomfortable and need replacing. Stayed for five nights and room was not vacuumed, bath and bathroom floor was not cleaned and sheets were not changed.Tour groups had preference in seating in resteraunt although food was nice. If I had not paid in advance I would not have stayed the five nights. Also problems with lift and nearly everyone used stairs.

When the Britannia Hotel Birmingham has been refurbished it will be great to visit its location is excellent. At the moment it is quite dirty and run down, the staff on reception are helpful. The breakfast is a shambles, I had to find the manager and get him to restock the breakfast bar on the Sunday. To give him his due he did get it sorted and he apologized.

Room door would not lock, had to put chair against it. Filthy bedroom carpet. Battered corridors. Hairs in bath, dirty corners in bathroom, very old worn bathroom fittings. Bedroom curtain hanging off rail on one side. Long wait without any acknowledgement to book in. Offhand. A dreadful experience!

Room was of a good standard, although due a little TLC. If you want somewhere very central and clean and aren't too bothered about how a room looks, this is ideal. Although a buffet breakfast, I have to say it was one of the best hotel breakfasts I've ever had in England. Not just cereal etc, but full English (including the ellusive black pudding). We ate quite late, but nothing looked as if it had been standing under the heat lamps for tooo long.

Great hotel for shopping ..right on the main street of Birmingham and very close to the train station, yet with quiet rooms The hotel is being done up, so not everything is in place yet, and the room I had was very dark (some lamps were missing), but otherwise a great place to stay in Birmingham.

A good example of an overpriced British hotel which was nonetheless the best deal I could find in the centre of Birmingham for that night. The usual British business about not being able to check in when you arrive. Room okay although didn't feel 100% clean (I think maybe this was just that it is/was a smoker room). Having to wait to be seated for breakfast and having to chase serving staff for tea or coffee. Lots of signs up about how they are putting in new floors with more rooms but how about building larger dining areas to accommodate the guests you already have? Lovely British customer service at its best.
