in need of cleaning and a refurb, poor food, low staff moralI went for a long weekend with a friend. The first room we got we couldn't even pass each other it was that small, supposed to be a double, but it was clearly a single, the wall paper was ripped, splash mark down the wall, the double bed was not a double but a large single and the shower room decor was an awful dark brown marble effect and it was dirty. We asked to move rooms, and we where moved to a much larger room, but again poor quality room, draws falling apart, mould in the bathroom, small tv on a really bashed about tv stand, no sky tv, ordered room service, it took over an hour and the food was terrible.....This used to be a beautiful hotel in its day and I really thought after booking I would go back with my husband and 2 year old....I would never stay there again......Really surprised at how bad it was.......I did try and book the Premier Travel Inn at the docks I have had great experiences there, but it was fully booked.

excellent location. Last minute decision due to negative reviews but will definately stay there again.

The room is shabby. The ventilation is very poor and the room has a bad smell. The shower can only supply either very hot or very cold water ! It is not worth staying there at such a price and I will never stay there again.

What a shameA once fabulous hotel, now looking sad. The room was quiet and the bed clean, but the curtains were partly hanging off the track and the TV was on the blink. Breakfast was OK. Very good central location and good enough value, but tatty. Staff were OK but seemed aware they were at the bottom end of the market.

Good location, but really needs renovation.

In need of MAJOR investment! The staff were friendly. The room was shabby. Wallpaper not necessarily adhering to walls. Carpets that didn't quite reach the skirting boards. Notices to the effect of 'don't steal the TV or kettle please'. A phone from 1982. Net curtain badly smoke stained. Five fuzzy TV channels. £10 deposit to use the iron and ironing board... Like anybody is going to book a £140 room and then steal the iron. Maybe they do, but even so, it's insulting... Lifts that go extremely slowly. In short, faded grandeur but friendly staff. Can't beat the location.

If you like the atmosphere of an old historical giant of a hotel then this place is absolutely a treat. With huge rooms, great old fashioned fittings, miles of corridors and tons of history you can easily imagine what it would have been like in its heyday. Now it is not run with the same high standards, but it is still a fun place to stay and worth the money. The bathrooms are particularly great and the staff very friendly.

Faded GrandureStayed 1 night to go and see Michael McIntyre. Should have guessed when we entered & saw Gold & Silver wanted for cash sign in foyer it wasn't going to be the Ritz....Very cramped room with tatty old furniture and the most uncomfortable bed I've ever slept in. Saying that, staff very friendly and can't beat it for location and value. Breakfast was a comedy, waited 15 mins for toast then no plates, glasses etc. etc. Husband said cooked brekky was good. Also had a drink in the bar after show, that was an experience. Back to Liverpool in October, but staying at Hard Days Night then. Having Liverpudlian Grandparents had always heard how grand the Adelphi was - it sure aint now!! If you want somewhere very cheap, fairly clean and very friendly then it's for you. If you want any sort of luxury then it isn't.....

we were upgraded to a jacuzzi suite following problems with the booking - the room was enormous and couldn't be faulted. The location is excellent, everything you could want within walking distance. We only had one complaint and the was the surliness of the staff, not a smile or welcoming greeting amongst them.

Holiday BirthdayI think breakfast could be priced much cheaper without losing the quality. £11 is steep

I Loved This Place! This was a great, old hotel with lots of character. For the same price I paid to stay in the crappy Travelodge, I got a clean, quiet room with an amazing bathtub and great service. The lobby is beautifully decorated. They really don't make them like this anymore, I would love to stay here again.

Good value for money when I stayed, carpets & room furniture a bit dated

This is a beautiful building in a very central part of town. The hotel reception area looks a bit shabby but the staff were efficient if not especially welcoming. The room was also a little old fashioned and tired, with the en suite bathroom in particular need to updating. However, the bed was excellent, big and roomy with a firm matress. All in all a nice experience and I would stay here again becasue of it's convenience and it is certainly a building full of character.

You get what you pay for. Very convenient for the city centre. Room had a view of the ventilation system outside. Beware the car parking charges. These seem arbitrary, and you are expected to leave your car keys. Check bill at departure as they has not taken off all my initial deposit. Having said all this, Liverpool itself is great to visit and there are a number of places to eat nearby and the shopping centre 'Liverpool One' has just opened. Take a trip across the Mersey on the ferry for a good view of the city and visit the Walker Gallery, just along from the hotel.

Nostalgic HotelThe hotel was certainly worth the money! The lobby and reception is very elegant and the rooms very grand. Staff were helpful. Location was good as hotel is a 5 minutes walk for Liverpool Lime Street Station. Rooms are very big and beds are quite comfortable.

I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone. It need a massive overhaul and I would never stay in it again.

Cheap but not cheerful! This hotel is very tired and rundown with the rooms a particular disappointment. Feels like stepping back in a timewarp, unfortunately the nostalgia ends there and leaves a feeling of needing a good clean and paint job!
