We stayed here for 7 nights in September of 2008. Even though we arrived well into the night, our room was ready and waiting for us. The bellman took our luggage (up 4 flights, with no elevators, whew!) to our top-floor room. The room had it's own private patio area with a table and chairs with umbrella and lounge chairs -- all to ourselves! The room was well-apportioned, with a bamboo king bed with drapery, a flat-screen tv on the wall, a small kichenette, and a huge bathroom. The next morning when the sun came up, we also found out that we had a spectacular view of the ocean and the pool. We made a point to look, and we couldn't see any rooms or buildings that would have offered a crummy view. The service was on-point, the activities desk was very helpful, and everyone was ready to assist, with special requests, taxi needs, etc. The location is on the southern coast, and the tides aren't so bad. It's not as smooth as the Caribbean side, but you pay a heck of a lot more to stay in that location. The pools are nice, and there's one set apart from the others for more privacy. There are a few hammocks around for relaxation, and there are extras like shuffleboard, a game room, etc. The Lanterns restaurant is okay, but you're likely to tire of it after a long stay (as you would any restaurant). Didn't eat at the fancy restaurant, because the menu wasn't varied and was expensive - but they're changing it to an Italian restaurant in October 08, so it may be different then. Breakfast was sufficient, and our room included a standard meal. We could upgrade off the menu for $5 US.

Disadvantages to this hotel: 1. location to shops and other activities 2. hotel restaurant was not good 3. rough surf, but lovely beach 4. no activities.....rolls up the carpet at dark I would definitely stay on the west coast next time! One of our highlights was the : shasacatamarancruises.com It was a small group with a wonderful and hospitable captain. It could not have been better!

This hotel is a great place for a Caribbean vacation! The beach is excellent, the rooms are large, and the pools are quite nice. Our room came with a kitchenette (microwave, stove, fridge, utensils and cookware), so we were able to stock up on some basic food and drink at the local market. Barbados gets a lot of English visitors, and we were there during an English school holiday so it was packed with families. Even then the place was fun and the swim up bar was great. The place has 2 restaurants - one has Bajan food and one was Italian. Both were good but not great. However, there are some great places in St. Lawrence Gap and closer to the airport, which was a great break from the resort. The activities desk was also great - we did a turtle watching sailing day - they got it all set up for us with no hassle. We did sign up for kiteboarding (Barbados is a hub of kiteboarding and windsurfing), however the winds were too "big" for us beginners!

The hotel grounds are beautiful. Overall the staff not friendly. If you approach them they are fine but won't take the initiative. X at Lanterns is cool. He's friendly and helpful and went beyond the call of duty to get me a local drink I was looking for. X who worked in landscaping kept me supplied with coconut water. I first met him when I couldn't get my key to work and he helped out. There's no night life at the hotel. Should be more local food and drink at the restaurant. Great beach, pools and grounds.

Barbados was an amazing place to visit. Bougainvillea was a great place to stay with excellent views, roomy rooms, a gorgeous beach and the pool bar was fabulous. I do not have any complaints about the hotel or Barbados in general. This is the best of all the travels I have had to the Caribbean. The people of this island are so nice and helpful without trying to rip you off. It was the best!!! I read a lot of negative reviews for the restaurant, but I thought the monday night BBQ was good and breakfast was wonderful every morning especially with the views provided.

Very lovely beach with moderate waves for swimming. The rooms are comfortable and well equipped. Staff is all helpful and friendly. Food is too expensive. Lanterns is OK, but Water's Edge is out of sight. Breakfast buffet is great. Eat at The Gap for dinner.

The Studioroom seemed larger than most with the large couch, that can accomodate a third person (child). I liked the fact that the bathroom had a sink with a long counter and that there was soap and conditioner provided in shower and bath. The location was very good -- it is directly on the beach; the GAP where you can find nightlife as well as some fine dinner opportunities are close by.

This place was in a nice location, the service that the hotel provided was excellent. This is a good place to relax and see beautiful sights. The people are very nice and courteous, where they make you feel very much at home. The only complaint is getting used to the bajan food, any red meats all taste the same. I do have to say the staff at this Resort are very nice (especially this handler named Kim very cool people) We met people from all over. If you feel hesitant to drive (like I did) getting around is'nt a problem (taxis are available everywhere). Take time to visit St. Lawrence Gap it has a very nice sunset and different kinds of resturants for different pallets. I plan on visiting again in the near future. I am sure you will feel the same once you get to visit. ( Much salutations to my friends at the pool bar...X ..and Y..much love)

My husband and I had a great time in Barbados. The hotel, the grounds, pool and beach were beautiful!! The staff was wonderful (what's up Kim) and helpful if you had any questions. A++++ We felt safe the entire time we were there. Can't wait to come back!!

"Just got back from the Bougainvillea. It's not in a great location and getting around was difficult during rush hour. The hotel was OK. Just OK, though the staff was very friendly and helpful. This is not a high end property. Better for budget travellers and families. Not what I expected. If you're looking for a more upscale facility, try the West Coast. I know I will next time."
