Had to book this hotel for three nights at the last minute and NOT satisfied. I booked a non-smoking room but somehow ended up in a smoking room. Front desk said they didn't have any non-smoking at the price I paid, so they sent someone over to 'deodorize' it. When the carpets were installed in this room, it was done very poorly-there were frayed edges everywhere. But, the kicker is what happened the morning after our first night. We left the room at 9:30 am, and I shut the door and my friend double-checked that it was locked. We came back to the room at 2 pm and our door was ajar. The cleaning staff in the room next door said they hadn't opened our door yet. I spoke with the manager on duty and decided it was best for us to check out of the hotel since we did not feel safe. The manager didn't even bother asking whether anything was missing. They refused to give me a refund for the next night since it was past the 11 am check out time. Well, had I realized this would happen, I would have checked out before 11! I did manage to convince them to give me a refund for the third night, but that was only after about 10 minutes of dialogue.

We booked a room at the Boardwalk Beach Resort in February 2008. This was a trip that was long desired for my fiancé and me. Our plans were to relax in the hotel and on the beach, so we booked a room that we thought was going to have an ocean view, a king size bed, with a Jacuzzi. Lone and behold, we were not prepared for what we had coming to us. When we arrived at the hotel the premises was a little different from what we found on the website. We could not find the location of the office at first and had to call the number to find out. The gentleman my fiancé spoke with was very helpful. Once we arrived to the front office the desk clerk seemed as if she was very upset and didn’t really want to help us. When she asked my name to look up our information she rudely asked “how old are you?”, as if to say we were not old enough to be booking a hotel room. She rushed through our transactions and very quickly told us the house rules and where everything was. The other thing that caught my attention was, we were given a key instead of a card key. In this time and age a hotel still uses regular keys? With the experience we had just gone through, I wanted to check out the room before we unloaded anything. As soon as we walked into the building it had sort of a “dungeon” feeling and look. The elevators sounded like they were ready to fall through the floor we were on instead of coming down like they were supposed to. The moment we stepped off the elevator it felt more like we were at a hospital instead of a hotel at the beach. Entering the room you could tell that it was not a setting where we wanted to spend our week at the beach. I opened the curtains to the balcony to find I was looking at another building instead of the ocean. Checking around the room more we found the toilet was missing and sitting in a million pieces on the floor. Left as if they forgot they were working on the room. We immediately left the room and walked back down to the front office explaining what was found, and that we were upset about it. I stated to the clerk that I thought we booked an ocean view room, yet all I see is a building. She replied you can see the ocean, look to your right. To me that’s not an ocean view. I could barely see the ocean let alone hear the ocean. The clerk said rudely to us “did you book this room online?” Replying “yes”, her comments followed, well you should have seen the difference between ocean view and ocean front, and that if we want an ocean front room, we would have to pay more. But there was no king size bed available with ocean front. Also that it would be in the main tower instead of what building we were in. (There are 4 buildings all together with this hotel.) I told her we would upgrade but, that something had to be done about our findings. She went back to speak to the manager and very quickly came back stating it was going to be an additional $250.00 more. I asked, is that with something being done about the room? She rudely stated well the manager didn’t see your findings to be a problem and that they were not going to do anything about it.” With the long drive I had to the beach and the problems I had already encountered, I just took the room, hoping that our week would be better than what it was starting out to be. The room seemed to be better than the other one. From our findings later on, this building was newer than the others and it seemed as if maintenance took better care of this building. As mentioned above this was a week that was long overdue for the two of us. Between the hours of 8:30 am and 9:00 am the next 4 mornings housekeeping was at our door knocking. We would yell “we are still here” and the next minute you would hear them trying to enter the room. We found this to be very rude and could not sleep in at all that whole week. The maids did clean the room; however the “touch” was not added to the room. For example, when we arrived the towels were folded nicely, but the rest of the week it seemed as if they were just thrown on the racks. One day we were coming back from the beach to find a maid trying to enter our room. She stated she was having trouble with her key and needed to use ours. We let her in to clean. When we came back it looked as if she rushed through things, the trash was not emptied and the floors not cleaned. At any other hotel that either of us has ever been to, there have been signs you place on the door stating whether you would like your bed sheets changed, towels changed, do not disturb etc. None were to be found. Another modern age tool one would think would be available is wireless internet. They had internet but you were limited to the living room. Due to that fact, an Ethernet cord needed to be used. The last day of our vacation we found out our bed sheets had not been changed the entire week. There was a small stain at the end of the bed that was there the whole week. While packing up to leave, we found one of our biggest problems. There were roaches crawling around the kitchen area. Finding this problem we threw out all our food, not knowing where these things had been crawling all this time. We did not want to take the risk of bringing anything back home with us. As we checked out, the clerk asked us how our stay was and we stated it was ok; however it could have been a lot better. They did not ask what they could’ve done to make it better or what our problems were. Being furious with what we experienced through our week, we just left. After speaking to several people they stated that we should call and complain. We called the hotel and asked to speak to a manager. Every time we called we got the run around. We were told each time that the general manager was not available and that they will call back the next day. We never heard back from him and thought we should've at least gotten a courtesy call. At one point I was transferred to the general manager's secretary who told us that he didn't have time to deal with our problem because he was too busy dealing with other problems.

Reserved a 3 queen bed efficiency in South Tower 2. Avoid this tower; it is NOT FOR FAMILIES. UNBELIEVABLY HORRIBLE! Main Tower, however, was as terrific as South Tower 2 was horrid. We waited about 3 minutes for the check in clerk (doesn't sound like a long time, but time it, it really is). Several other patrons had eventually come in as well. The clerk was not friendly at all, maybe she was tired, I don't know. We were told we were being put on the 3rd floor as she checked us in, but after my husband asked about alternate units and possibly changing, we found ourselves in 420. What a nightmare! A horrid stench of mold and mildew hit us as soon as we opened the door, as if the room hadn't been touched for months. Our eyes were immediately drawn to the carpet in front of us just as we stepped in--there was a large thread bare area the size of two shoes that at first looked like a hole (I took pictures). There was barely any water pressure (maintenance's garden hose had more pressure), dead outlets, broken towel bar in the shower, the floor's dumpster was right outside our door, the a/c unit was right, I mean right, next to the bed, blowing on us continuously. We had to put a pillow over part of it to keep from freezing (at least it worked!). The ice machine by the elevator was out of order, trashy/loud tenants in neighboring units, it was like a slum. Even my teenage children called it a dump. After 2 nights, my husband and I went to compaign about the firecrackers being thrown onto our balcony and the rude behavior of the other occupants. We demanded to change units. We were offered one in the Main Tower which they would move us into, but we would have to pay the difference. Then the negotiating began. We recounted again what we were putting up with as opposed to what the web site touted and were then told we could get a slight discount. We grudgingly agreed, still complaining it didn't seem fair that we be placed into such a place in the first place. Michelle Prince was the clerk we dealt with when we complained. Kudos to her; she found a way to accommodate us at no increased cost. That move on her part did a lot to improve my outlook and opinion of the resort. We had a wonderful suite in the Main Tower that salvaged our vacation. The South Tower should work fine for students on vacation who don't care about accommodations (if I were single, I'd likely not be bothered either, except for the stench which was quickly corrected with Oust and Glade room fresheners and opening all the doors/windows). Just avoid it if bringing a family. And definitely avoid room 420. We ran into another family that had that very same room just the night before we did and they did the very same thing, went back to check in and demanded another room. Our stay in South Tower 2 was all '1' except housekeeping--they were nice. The main tower was all '5'.

I was having difficulty understanding the negative reviews I have read as I have stayed at Boardwalk on several occasions and have not had a problem. Here is the difference - The main tower seems to be the flagship of this resort ( all the pictures on the website are from this tower) This tower was torn down and rebuilt 7 years ago whereas the other towers are much older and seem to not be kept up as well or in some reviews I have read not at all. If you stay in the main tower I am quite sure you will not have any problems with this resort, I never have.

The hallways are dirty, dingy and smelly. The elevators are old and dirty. The room was tiny, but no walking space. You have to stand in the corner to close the bathroom door. I asked for ocean view, I was as close to the street as you can get. The only way I could see the ocean was to lean way over the railing and crane my neck for a tiny view between buildings. There is NO customer service here. The clerk at the counter was rude and basically told me I was stupid. The low rates are not worth the hassle of staying here. We left and went somewhere else. Still fighting over a refund. The staff also could not tell me when the GM would return from his own vacation. Basically got the run around on everythiing.

This was the worst hotel experience I have ever had! When we got there, there was hair all over the bathroom floor! Later that night we called to find out if there was wireless net connections they sd there was a starbucks down the street or go to walmart to buy a cable! so while looking for the wired source before we bought the wire we found a used towel inbetween the headboard and matress! GROSS!!!!! This hotel is obviously not about good hygene. And when we went to tell the manager about it....all we got told was that a maid would be right up(which by the way was almost 6 hours later!!!!) and asked if we wanted an extra razor? My room is dirty and not up to standards and a new razor will make it better?!? I will never be staying at the boardwalk ever again!!!!!

My boyfriend and I stayed in the main tower for 4 days . Everything was fine with only one problem. The cleaning crews were always friendly and spoke a hello or good morning. We had a light bulb out when we first arrived and the maintenance man was there in about 10 minutes to replace it after we notified the hotel of the problem. Plenty of parking spaces were available. The only problem we had was there was a coffee pot provided in the room with no coffee. We were told the closest coffee was 8 blocks away that we could purchase to use in the coffee pot that was provided. Thought that was a little strange. I do not normally travel with coffee. Other than that, everything went well.

NOT FOR FAMILIES. UNBELIEVABLY HORRIBLE! It was deliberate because we were told we?d be on the 3rd floor as we checked in, but after my husband asked the rude front desk clerk about alternates, we found ourselves in 420. No water pressure, almost 2-shoe size hole in carpet as soon as you enter, stank to high heaven, dead outlets, dumpster right at our door, inoperable ice machine by the elevator, trashy tenants in other units, like a slum. After 2 nights, we changed units. They could do it for a price, but after a while they gave us the unit in the Main Tower for the same price we were paying for the slum tower. Housekeeping staff was friendly, and M P at the front desk when we complained was terrific, working her magic to satisfy us. However, we still won't stay there again. Ordinarily, I can put up with almost anything, but this was way over the top. Be very careful which room you get. My recommendation is the Main Tower. We got an efficiency, which slept 6 (snugly), but worked out well for our family. Ocean Front view was great!

My wife and I stayed for a 1-night getaway and shopping the next day. Boardwalk Resort has 4 separate towers, all ocean side, all w/ at least some ocean view. The property was clean, neat and orderly. Plenty of parking. Checkin at the main office, across the street (plenty of parking there too, unlike some ocean front resorts). Staff was courteous, well groomed and well-informed. What you need to know: The property still used the "old fashioned" metal hotel room key. They haven't upgraded to the credit card key system----thought everybody had by now. That worked just fine, too. The 1 bdrm efficiency w/ ocean view that we got was clean. Especially the bathroom. Nice tile floors. Large, deep tub. Plenty of towels, wash cloths and soaps. Take your hair dryer. None included in the room. The furniture looked like it had seen better days. While nothing was broken, there was considerable wear on the tables, nightstand and dressers. Just time for some updating. But all in all, I was pleased. Excellent place to lay your head after a hard day shopping, golfing, beaching. Beds were pretty comfortable. Sheets clean. Carpet clean. A/c worked well. TV and remote worked w/o incident. We paid $70 for this room with only 1 night required booking. That's uncommon for this area. Most want 2-3 nights minimum. I would stay again. Good location--not too close to the Paviion, so it's relatively quiet after 11pm. Only a mile or so from Broadway, and of course, right on the Strand. Sorry, didn't try the pools, but they appeared clean and saw many people enjoying them. I'll go back.

I have stayed here twice in the last year. The resort is made up of 3 towers. North, South and the Main Towers. It looks like at one time they were 3 separate hotels of varying quality. I was in the North Tower on my first visit. Very nice. On my second visit I was put in the South tower, and it was a hole. I demanded to be put in the North Tower and the staff were understanding. On my next visit I will ask for the main tower. I think its a step up.

I usually stay in Hiltons, and read the bad reviews of this hotel, but picked it for location and price. I was worried when we got off the elevator, due to the old cement floor. However, the room was good--new carpeting and bathrooms. We had the executive suite in the main tower. There were three of us, but it could have slept 8. I wish I had brought a cable to use the free i-net (it's not wireless) and shampoo, which was not provided. As for the noise, isn't that why you go to Myrtle Beach rather than Hilton Head? If I were entertaining my 2 teenage neices again, I would book this room at this hotel. They loved the pools, the ocean, Broadway at the Beach, and having their own room and balcony. If I were traveling with my husband or parents, I wouldn't go to Myrtle Beach at all.

We arrived and pulled into the first driveway ( there are 3) and my 6 yr old son said " Mom I dont want to sound mean or anything but this hotel is NASTY". It was not an overstatement. There are 3 buildings- but if you book through an online travel website,a nd book anything except there most expensive oceanFRONT suite, you are put in what appears to be the original, very old, run down, mildewed, "nasty" building. They offered to upgrade our room for an extra $* ( for 4 nights). When I started trying to get in touch with an online travel website to get my money back and go elsewhere the manager appeared and moved us to the slightly better of the two small buildings The room was clean and smelled ok but old and a bit dreary. The door onto the balcony would only open if you repeatedly jerked on it hard enough to lift it off the tracks; The whole building is in dire need of renovation. Apparently it is so old it is not required to have fire safety features of newer buildings -no sprinkler system. The ladies who cleaned our room did an adequate job but were rude and refused to even look at you when you said hello. We always manage to have a great time no matter where we are, so we enjoyed our vacation, but the hotel was beyond disappointing. We opted to drive home late Friday night even though we had the room until Saturday am- preferrred to drive through the night than spend another night in the hotel.

"I was very worried after I had already made reservations when I read some of the reviews. We stayed in the south tower, which everyone said was the worst, and it was a perfectly good room. The only complaint I had was that the elevator had no air conditioning. I watched the pools get cleaned every morning, but some of them still seemed kind of dirty. The view was wonderful, and we had a side view. The kitchen had clean dishes and utensils. We had no problems at all from the staff."

As soon as we arrived there was sand on the hotel room floor and hair in the bathtub. I thought these places were suppose to be cleaned before new guest arrived. Once housekeeping came to clean the room I felt a little better. I was beyond disgusted. The overall hotel just wasnt as nice as it looked on the internet. I told them about all the problems I had and told them I would never stay there again....they sent me a 10% discount off my next stay.

"There are too many other really nice hotels in Myrtle Beach to spend money here. The kitchen wasn't clean, nor were the dishes and coffeemaker. Items were sticky and unusable. Towels were delivered with huge holes in them and more were not sent to the room when requested. Guest Services were rude. Vending machines were not maintained - water is essential down there! The beds were ok but the bathroom sink wasn't cleaned daily."

I was disgusted by the smell of feces and urine in the stairway. The room was small and there were cigarette butts in the pools at the North Tower. I would NEVER stay there again. I was so happy to leave and decided not to go back to that part of the beach again.
