We made the reservation reading the other reviews. The front desk is running the same scam all the time. If you make a reservation through Orbitz they tell you that they are not making enough money, most of it goes to Orbitz. So they give you a room in a building, top floor. We were hoping for a jacuzzi in front of the fireplace type of room. Well, if you want that you have to pay extra. So, I paid $30 to get a cabin. The sign outside was stating $85 for something like that. They still wanted the extra $30. So, a night at Black Forest Lodge turned out to cost $125. The room was clean but little things tell you that it was old and not very well maintained. There was a coffee maker but no coffee filters... The jacuzzi did not have a drain cap. I had to ask for one! A handyman was suppose to take it to the room. He didn't! I had to go back to the front desk and get it myself. I would still go back...

I came for quiet & rest. It was fine, until neighbors checked in. The walls are not soundproof and you can hear EVERYTHING .. talking, TV late night, running water.. Also, I needed WI-FI and was told it was available. Which it was. In the lobby. Not the rooms!!! The would have been a major inconvenience, but the lady put me up in a room closer to the lobby that would get WI-FI. Unfortunately, it wasn't tucked away in the forest setting that I originally wanted. Also, it was hot and there was no A/C. They brought me a fan, which was helpful. When the lady is on front desk duty, she tends to not be around for lengthy times, not responding to front desk ringing alerts. On two occasions, me & others waited, yelling for service with no response, for over 10 minutes before WE had go looking for her. She seems like a very nice lady otherwise.

The owner is kind and accommodating. The grounds keeper is friendly and helpful. Even the other people staying as the lodge were very friendly and happy. Our room #22 was large but cozy with 3 queen beds, Jacuzzi tub in front of the fireplace and doors that opened up to two balconies that our dogs loved laying out there in the sun. Room #22 was a little on the loud side at night because you could hear the cars going by on Big Bear Blvd. but nothing we couldn't sleep through. We'll definitely be going back and telling friends and family about the Black Forest Lodge.

We are very experienced travelers - especially road trips - this property popped up on orbitz as "a special" we booked the "special" and when we got there we were shown the "special" room. We also received a lecture about how little we were actually paying because we'd booked on Orbitz. We complained because the pix on orbitz didn't show the room we were booking (according to the staff - the room we looked at online was much more expensive) - we always ask to see the room first and when the woman behind the desk realized that we were serious she ran out with a key to a different room than the one she'd originally given us - we checked out the original room and it was terrible. She told us if we'd called her direct we would've gotten a much better rate = so I must ask Orbitz - you charge a booking fee etc. and we get a bad room - it cost us another 50 per night plus a lecture as to how much money they lost on us. Unless you do something about this I can't see any reason to book anything through Orbitz again - I'll always think I'm getting a "bait and switch" room reservation. Aaron L. Norris

We are two of the thousands of Europeans that love Big Bear Lake for the scenery, pristene environment and the world class freshwater fishing. We arrived frazzled from travel problems and the hotel moved us to superior lodgings including full kitchen! This was our 7th and most enjoyable visit to Big Bear Lake. First time at Black Forest. If something is not quite right, guests should inform the management. Their sincere desire to please is most disarming. There were no surprise extra charges, unusual by our experiences.

I think I got my money's worth for $66 (the notice on the motel states $55 so I don't really know if I got a good deal at Orbitz or if I just did a walk-in) per night. The room looks decently clean but the sheets are itchy and the bed is hard as a rock. There's no shampoo, the sink could definitely use a resurfacing and the rug should be replaced right away. The vent on the bathroom made louder noises than a jet engine. The love seat and pillows looks like it's been there since the 60's because it's either discolored or very filthy. I can hear all the conversation in the adjoining rooms even the drops of water from the faucet. The couple in the next room, whom I think are kangaroos because they are banging and thumping on the walls, floors, corridors and stairs day in and day out. Other than these, location is good because it's walking distance to restaurants, The Village and the lake.

In the hotel there is nothing much to do. So plan activities. Also bring your own toiletries. They do not provide those awesome little shampoos, conditioners, or lotions. It's basically an affordable place if you just need somewhere to sleep.

I couldn't wait to get home to write a review on this trashy place. It's in a good location; near a few restaurants and only a mile from major stores. First, the two people that run the place look like major trailer trash hippies. They're not friendly at all. In fact, when I went to turn in my key, the lady was gossiping on the phone with a friend and didn't even bother putting the phone down to acknowledge me. They both look like bums and not even presentable. Next, there are the rooms. My room was ridiculously on a second floor with no elevator and I had to lug my luggage up the stairs. I'm disabled and they didnt even tell me at the desk that my room would be on a second floor. It was number "14" so I assumed it would be on the ground floor. I was so tired from the travel I didn't want to go back all the way to the lobby and complain so I just sucked it up. The room was VERY ugly. The wallpaper was real old and dirty. Most of the paper was peeling off or scratched everywhere. The comforter on the bed looked like cats attacked it; it had a billion snags all over it! The bed pillows had hair on each. The TV was too small and so far from the bed I had to squint my eyes to watch it. There was only one small window that has no screen on it so flies and bugs will waltz in and out of your room as they please. The room had no A/C or fans and it was HOT outside! Also, the room smelled moldy, like they never opened the windows to let in fresh air when vacant. The bathroom sink was too small and it took 5 minutes before I could get hot water from the shower. My home pantry was bigger than their closet, which by the way, had no hangers! The room had no amenities at all besides cable TV. They even charge you for placing a local call! Forget Wifi, they don't have any at all. The carpet was old and dirty, I was scared to take off my shoes. I felt like the room didn't really have much privacy. The front door was just a sliding door that you see at some people's kitchens connecti
