Rodent ProblemThe room was fine, if not a little on the small side. At about 3 am I was awoken by the sound of mice or some other rodent type pest scrabbling about.I got up and switched the light on and it disappeared. No sooner had I started to drift off again than it started again. This continued throughout the rest of the night and at about 4 30 am I seriously contemplated going out to my car to sleep.I can honestly say that this was one of the worst nights sleep I had ever had, and I had to go to work feeling very tired. In the morning I informed reception who didn't seem interested in the slightest.Never again will I stay in this or any other Great Western hotel.

Great service, tired roomsThe service was very good. The ground floor gives a good impression with modern bar etc. However the rest of the hotel is very tired. Corridors and rooms decorated in 80's woodchip wallpaper skirting boards all damaged or badly scuffed. The double room to the rear of the hotel was very small but clean. Bathroom very dated. The rooms with seaview were much bigger and better presented but I would assume at additional cost. I only stayed for one night as a place to sleep during my journey. WIth the good service and nice bar and restaurant, it still doesnt quite have the standard of an Ibis hotel as a travel stopover.

Although the stay was pleasant and the restaurant food was very good, was disappointed that guest's brought their pet dogs through the restaurant whilst people were dining.

Not too bad at all!!!!We had read some quite bad reviews on this site about the hotel but working in the leisure industry i know what some miserable people are like, if it rains they'll blame the hotel!!!!! So we thought we'd try it anyway. Not the best i've stayed in but certainly not the worst!!! On arrival there was work going on outside but if work needs to be done then so be it, as the hotel is open all year round somebody's going to kop it, Not a problem.Very nice on reception, got the lift to our room which we found more than adequate, decent size, bathroom quite large, as we were on the side we could also see the sea which was nice. Breakfast was ok, buffet style and plenty for me but my wife is a vegetarian and they didn't cater to much for her. Could have done with some mushrooms and hash browns as all she could really eat was eggs, toast and tomatoes and as we all pay the same price we all should have a better choice. Thats the only real complaint but not one to really put us off. Overall comfortable stay.

Quite a good hotelBreakfast was a buffet, and the quality of the food was excellent. Pool was OK, but not very big. Any more than four people, and it did feel a bit crowded! Setting of hotel very nice, pleasant location on the seafront. Reception staff very pleasant.

Pleasant surpriseWe booked our accommodation with less than 24 hours notice, but we were still able to have a sea view room. The staff where polite and helpful, especially in the dining room. Although most were foreign, they still chatted to people, especially the elderly and were very effficient in the dining room. We couldn't fault the food or the service. We will certainly go back again.

Having stayed at Best Western hotels before and thinking they were good value for money, i was diappointed here. Although i only paid a special rate, the 'back room' we got was badly in need of decoration and re-vamping and not up to expectations. i think this should be addressed as there is lots of competition in the town. However, all the staff were very friendly and the breakfast was good.

Weekend experienceThis hotel has an excellent location . The accommodation is somewhat dated and in need of some refurbishment , however the room was comfortable and clean . we only ate in the hotel at breakfast. Range of breakfst items was average , the cooked breakfast eselection was wel cooked and wholesome. The organisation in the dining room was a little disorganised and a little thought with regard to customer flow at the self selction area would be time well spent. on sunday the hotel was very busy and overflow rooms had to be used, which was fine , however it would seem that there were not enough teapots which meant that tea was served from a flask resulting in the inevitable brown scum floating on top. When asked this was replaced. Service was polite and friendly but not professional. Our waitress either didnt see or didnt know what to do.

Nice try but very tiredThe hotel staff were good, but the building and rooms are in need of a refurbishment. Our bedroom on the ground floor was a good size, but everything about the room was just a bit passed its sell by date. Offered a paper and alarm call. Declined alam but ordered newspapers for Sat/Sun. No paper delivered, when enquired, was told they dont provide the service at a weekend........ Shame really as its usually only at the weekends I have time to read a newspaper!

surpisingly good valueRoom was clean and the bed was better than our one at home, very comfortable.excellent value considering you also get a full english breakfast included which would cost at least £20 ish at any cafe for two.We ate in the restaurant on one night and the food again was excellent.Great situation, opposite the beach and 1000 yards from the pier. Our only critisism if it matters is that the decor in hotel is very tired...But we will definatley go back again.

Best Western York House Hotel reviewLovely comfy bed, view good across to the Downs. Shower works nicely. Loo cistern took a while to fill up, though. Window opening a bit problemmatical, as sash windows. Breakfast waiters very helpful and attentive. Breakfast itself very acceptable, except for the fried bread (which one should avoid anyway!) - which was hard and seemed a bit elderly.Nice hotel on sea front.

Good, clean basic accomodationHave spent a few weekends away recently, mostly in 4 or 5 star hotels, where I have been let down by bad customer service, wrong bookings etc. This made a very pleasant change - at half the price! Great staff, very adqueate clean room. Good breakfast - I judge breakfasts on the sausage - and it was great!Overall, very good.

first impressions count, non-smoking room full of stale smoke, cant tell me house keeping didn't notice. replaced with twin room couldn't put beds together, room exeptionally hot. wallpaper falling off walls and ceilings, very dated, bar not open after 11pm!! could go on and on, don't stay here unless there is absolutely no other choice.

Gives Best western a bad name. This was the worst possible experience in a hotel ever, I requested for a seafront room and was hushed into a small side room with a view of the next door hotel wall and van, rooms outdated and no ventilation, even with a fully opened window, one electric heater which stank like the buildings on fire. Planned for a sleep in only to be woken up by the cleaners at 8 am when teh check out time was 11 AM, nice way to tell your guests that they are not welcome,, This is truely not even value for money. I certainly will ask my firends and social circle tto avoid this place. I was never so glad that this was over.

Boiling Hot ExperienceWhen we arrived in room the heating was set at such a high temperature we had vacate it for two hours and even after turning off heating and opening the window to its full extent it was still too warm upon our return to be comfortable. Although the receptionist asked us if we wanted an early morning call we did not receive it and had to miss breakfast as my daughter would otherwise have been late for her university interview. Staff were indifferent to our problem . Although we received a perfunctory apology, the attitude adopted was ' breakfast is available until 09.30 what is your problem ? Real Fawlty Towers experience.

We enjoyed our stay but did book hoping to use the pool and we weren't advised until our arrival that the pool was closed due to damaged to floor tiles or that the reception area was being refurbished. The price we paid for the room probably reflected these circumstances but it would have been nice to know in advance. However, the room and breakfast were very nice and all staff were polite and helpful.
