I had reserved a balcony room (which cost more) and did not get it! Probably because they had lost my reservation! Good thing I had printed out my confirmation. When I talk to the front desk they could not credit anything back to me and they had no balcony rooms available so they gave us free parking for the two night we were there(a $52 value). On 2nd day, our toilet stopped working. Other than those things, everything else was very nice. Front desk had a surprise grab bag for my daughter, who is 7. That's a neat touch for anyone with kids. We were main street side and the noise wasn't too bad. Inside the hotel was quiet also. Japan town is fairly small, but we easily caught the #47 line to the Fisherman's Warf. Shopping isn't too far from there either. Just map out where you're walking to or you'll end up in a not so nice part of town!!

Loved the room! Very Feng Shui! Parking was $20 a night plus tax.

Nice, modern hotel, cool atr work painted onto the walls. Japantown is a bit far out of the main city and tourist areas but worth a visit and it's on main bus route and walking distance (about 25 mins) from union square. We added another night onto our 2 night stay and the lady didn't update our room cards properly so they stopped working - when we went to the desk there was no appology and was a little disappointed by the general attitude of the desk staff.

I've stayed at the TOMO twice. It's an unconventional hotel with modern touches & unique graphics in the rooms. The staff is professional and pleasant, The neighborhood is removed from the noise and crush of downtown, or the wharf area. The Japantown area is full of little shops and restaurants which can be visited for a quick meal and crossing the street brings you to a bus stop which is about 10-15 minutes from Union Square. A few blocks away is trendy Fillmore st. which is chic and less rushed than downtown. The room noise is OK. I happened to be near an exit door & when people exited it made a loud clang. The rooms are clean, the internet is free and overall a pleasant experience. In short, I could get a decent night of rest. Thankfully I didn't see tons of teens, or college kids - the bane of the business traveler,

It's a fun and stylish hotel smack in the middle of Japan Town. The staff is helpful and polite. The only thing I didn't like was the hard down pillows. Other than that, it's a wonderful stay. Be warned that their parking garage is very small, so you will most likely have to use another one nearby; which works out better since it's cheaper. I would definitely stay there again.

Went to eat, walked to and from the show, stopped at the corner market for supplies. Everything worked out fine.

Exceptionally clean and neat. $20 to park my car in the parking garage overnight. This is a moderately priced hotel in the middle of Japan town. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was exceptionally clean and neat.

The refurbished hotel is fun, furnished in bright colors/Ikea style. Flat screen TV's, free WiFi, and close to loads of places you can safely walk to - night & day. Yes, like EVERY WHERE in SF, parking is a challenge. They have a small garage for $20 a day, and you really don't need to move your car since there is reliable public transportation. Also Mums is a hotspot for Shabu table cooking - all you can eat, and a good breakfast spot. Friendly staff & comfortable beds. Also, the cleaning staff doesn't wake you up vacuuming before 9am.

First of all there is no Parking. THey do have a garage but it was FULL every day. THere is not even on street parking. Do not attempt to go out after dark- the hotel front desk gave us the "safest route" since we had to park our car 3 blocks away for the bargain prce of 15.00. The water in the shower would not ever get hot- they saw no problem in our room. The front desk staff was rude at best. THe room was clean but very modern. Not a bad place if you don't mind entir walls of a cartoon mural. The room was yellow- a very bright yellow and the elevator doors didn't open all the way. Stay away from the TOMO- far away.

I decided to take the girls with me to spend a weekend in SF over the Memorial Day weekend. Visited the Academy of Sciences and enjoyed the Shabu Shabu dinner in the hotel. I chose this restaurant because I knew that it was recently remodeled with a Japanese comic theme and I thought the girls would enjoy it as well. Also, I knew that I'd find street parking readily in that neighborhood. Service was nothing to write home about; adequate but not too eager to please. Our visit was satisfactory but I'm not sure I'd stay here again. The beds were a bit uncomfortable for me.

Meticulously clean with everything in order. Certainly not fancy. A good option to the very expensive San Francisco hotels. I will stay there again.

Close to the hospital. The charge for parking. Hotel staff was nice. It is just a few block from the hospital and that is why we stayed there.

The Best Western Hotel Tomo, San Francisco, California was not breath-taking or deserving of any top hotel write-ups. The quality of the room furnishings were simply from Ikea.

Proximity to Japan town (restaurants, theater, shopping), clean, quiet, pleasant staff. Honestly, there were no negatives.

Stayed here for spring break April 2008, with my husband and two teens. The location is great - bus stop across the street, near the Japantown Mall with lots of restaurants and shopping. Grocery store on the corner -- mostly Japanese food, but it was fun on vacation. We did not have a car, so we didn't have to worry about parking. We felt safe walking through the neighborhood. The room was clean and quiet; the staff was very helpful. Some reviewers have complained about the room decorations, but my teens thought they were pretty cool. The previous guest had left the room safe locked and not usable. The staff came quickly and happily to fix it so that we could use it. The lobby staff were also helpful answering questions about how to get places, etc. I would definitely stay here again.

The Best Western Hotel Tomo in San Francisco, California was an unbelievable find! The rooms were spacious and incredibly clean. The minimalist decor of the room was perfect as it provided ample space for the three of us. Also, it is very modern with Ipod docking stations and flat screen TVs. The staff friendly and very attentive. The hotel is located in the Japantown neighborhood of San Francisco, which is conveniently located to all major attractions. It was a great value for the money and we are definitely staying there again.

Great beds. Great Anime design/theme. Really no complaints! The newly remodeled Hotel exceeded our expectations. The room design was cool like visually and design cool. But the bed was great, and the down comforters stashed in the chest of drawers was a nice touch.
