limited accomodations, and had to wait long time for valet service ... Ok resturants around the area, but should have researched more for this trip.

Our first trip to California from FL. Flew into Sacramento and flew out of San Jose. We spent 2 days in San Francisco and I booked way ahead into the Hotel California. We got a great rate by booking ahead. Staff was positioned outside when we pulled up and parked our car as we checked in. The room had no fridge which we wanted so we were immediately given another room. Our room was small but bright and cheery with three big windows right on the street. It also was very clean; shiny hardwood floors. Yes, it was noisy but IT IS THE CITY and it was an experience I get quiet all the time at home. It was right in the heart of things with the trolley about 3 blocks away. p.s. Loved the Saturday morning Market, the Golden Gate Park and riding the trolleys up Nob Hill.

My husband and I checked in on a Saturday afternoon and left our brand new (less than two months old) car with the valet at the front of the hotel. The valet sign clearly said "Best Western Hotel California Valet Parking". When we had them pull our car to go to dinner, there was a huge scrape on the driver's side door. The desk manager told us that they were not responsible because they contract out the service and that we were welcome to leave, however they would be charging us for that night regardless. We were treated so poorly that we called BW corporate offices and lodged a complaint. The rooms were old, grimy and small. The location was basically in the ghetto and the staff at this hotel was the rudest I have ever encountered. Please beware: Best Western Hotels are individually owned and operated so the only recourse you have is lodging a complaint against that particular hotel if something happens and while they are very friendly they are unable to prevent the hotel from charging you in the event that you leave because of their lack of quality.

This hotel was very nicely decorated, comfy, clean and front staff were always very helpful. Bed was firm and comfortable. The only thing was the night noise that echoed between the hotel and the next building. Mainly on Friday night but then the hotel couldn't do anything about that.

Big beds, great shower head, small fridge, free coffee downstairs, great colors. No free continental breakfast, they charge 7$ per adult for breakfast. We got there with our 2 kids and were told we had one bed. I said I needed 2 separate beds. They said they only have one bed rooms but would give me a suite with one bed in each room. This suite was like an apartment. Huge! Very nice room with beautiful decor, huge king bed in one room and queen in another, flat screen TV, tons of blankets and towels right up front.

I decided to suprise my husband with a suprise trip to San Francisco for Father's Day weekend. When we arrived at our hotel the clerk was very nice and funny. The shot of tequilla wasn't bad either. The hotel was in a very good location. We were able to walk to all the hot spots of The City. The only complaint that i had was that our room was way too small, but it was still a good stay!

Decor and charm. Very loud in middle of night. This was a good stay overall the neighborhood was not the best. On the other hand it gave me a chance to teach my 12 year old about street smarts and the importance of observation skills. It was in a great location overall just had to weave through the panhandlers and homeless to get there.

Our last stay in San Francisco was supposed to be a romantic getaway for a couple days. The wine and cheese downstairs were the highlight of our hotel stay. At the time of our stay, the hotel was being painted, which is fine, but the staff/painters went into our room when we were out and left our door wide open--not just unlocked--open! My computer and all of our belongings were in full, right there for anyone to nab. The walls are so thin that you can LITERALLY hear your neighbor use the restroom, in all the woes and moans your head is conjuring as you read this. Consider trying to have a romantic night listening to your neighbor?s little kids yelling, not so great. What?s worse was walking the city knowing that we'd have to return to our horrible hotel after a full day of activity. Finding that open door was just icing on the cake. Continuing with the noise problem, you can hear the slightest whisper from outside your door (we tested it) and people in the hall and your neighbors can hear EVERYTHING you do and say in your room. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to a homeless person.

I was in town to enjoy a stay at a charming yet relatively inexpensive hotel with personality, and that's what I got. I spent most of my time driving to functions in Berkeley related to a niece's graduation, and the staff was very knowledgeable and friendly in helping me with directions. I certainly felt the charm and personality of the place, and loved that aspect of it -- loved my individual room as well, though I would've liked a headboard that was stiff/connected to the frame, as well as the desk I'd been led to expect by my online reservation. Street noise could've been a problem, but wasn't this weekend. Note for summer arrivals: nice ceiling fans, but no air conditioning. Still, I got what I paid for at a fair value, EXCEPT ... The valet service was terrible. When I arrived I wasn't sure where to park (after repeated requests); turned out I had arrived at 4 and several people squawked that it was a bad tow-risk time, and they needed the desk to give me a receipt quickly. When I asked for it, I was asked why haven't you moved your car? Oh, you shouldn't have left it there. And etc. Finally someone on the valet team came in and told us what he needed to move the car (besides the keys, which I'd given him). Just a big mess. Really added to the anxiety of what was already a very stressful 5-mph-drive up 101 that Thursday (holiday traffic, perhaps?). No problems with the valet while there, though it was hard to find a place to leave the car when I arrived about 10 on Friday night. But when I was leaving for the airport, about 4 a.m., the valet staff told the hotel's desk staff that they were on break and would get to it in a while. I'm glad my schedule gave me enough time to reach my flight! The hotel service did his best to movtivate them. The weak value of the valet service, given its expense, is the reason I don't rate the hotel 5 on value. And I'd rank the check-in a 5+ were it not for the valet service. But thumb's up to all the front desk staff. Otherwise, a

We spent a few extra dollars to reserve a "deluxe" room described as "ovrsized, desk, wifi net, fridg, cofmkr". What we got was a very small room with no refrigerator. (They did bring one to our room when we asked about it.) Other than that, we had a wonderful stay. Lots of great restaurants and Union Square close by!

The hotel room was very nice and neat. The building was very old but you would have never known by the way the rooms look. My remote for the Television did not work.

My husband and I arrived at the hotel parking in front in the (designated) valet area. As I went inside to check in, the valet ran up to my husband and in broken english said if we didn't move our car immediatley it would be towed! The front desk attended was discourtious and was of no help. We ended up parking in a near by garage! Later we went down to the "Wine Reception" at 5:00 which was a joke. It consisted of 2 caraf's of the world's worst wine! with old cheese and grapes, while the front desk associate monitored you! If you want a nice stay and nice wine reception...go to the Tuscan Inn by the Warf. It's also a Best Western and they people there were great. The only upside to "Hotel California" is that they were very close to Union Square and the rooms were very old but very clean.

This hotel was adequate and apparently fairly priced.

The decor of the room was unique. $30 charge for parking. The hotel has been recently remodeled. The colors used in the rooms are warm and inviting. Even though it had been recently remodeled, you could still experience some of the original charm of the period that the hotel was built. I would recommend this room for couples on a romantic getaway or for people on a business trip.

"we spent three nights there with my husband and we had a very nice experience, we really enjoy the hotel. we left the hotel because we went to Napa Valley for 2 days and return to S.Francisco and unluckily went to an.other hotel and we really missed the Savoy we found it was really better in all aspects. We hope to return again as soon as we can"
