Front desk lady not the friendliest...rest of staff ok. However, staff wouldn't do much about kid throwing chairs in the pool. It was alright, bathroom floor in corner needed to be cleaner. Great breakfast though.

I paid more than 100 bucks for the hotel, and very disappointed with the hotel facilities with this price. Next time, I'll try not to stay in the neighborhood since there isn't many options for hotels in Carlsbad.
Date of Stay:
April, 2009
When we first arrived at our room, I found a roach hunkered down beneath the sink area, and was immediately grossed out! After I disposed of the critter and looked around, I was less than thrilled. The one-story building we stayed in looks like it was a cheaply renovated old-school motel. The furniture and beds were adequate but very utilitarian looking (think cheap dorm furniture). We also had issues with the toilet- anything more than a normal-sized wad of t.p., and the toilet wouldn't flush everything down properly. We had to ask the front desk for a plunger to fix the problem. The only good thing about this place is the free breakfast that came with it the next morning. The biscuits and gravy were yummy, and they had fruit, eggs, toast, bacon, french toast and pancakes.

The room was full of live and dead roaches. I watched as roaches crawled up and down the walls - traveled between rooms through the suite doors - crawled over the beds. I never even sat down in the room. The walls were lined with dead roaches and under the bed skirting were more dead roaches. I've seen rooms like this on TV but never experienced them myself. I finally called the front desk to let them know. They had only one smoking room left. I can't handle the smoke, so I got a refund.

Used the motel as a jumping off place for visits to Carlsbad Caverns, Roswell, and White Sands National Monument. Well situated for that. Good air conditioning, which was critical as the temps were in the 90's each day. Had a nice scrambled eggs and bacon breakfast each day (not too much variety, but plenty to eat) Smallest complimentary bar of soap I've ever seen.

Bugs in bathroom.

The room was large but not clean. In fact, the in-room coffee pot had not been cleaned. There were coffee rings on the bedside table. The coffee rings were there when we left. The room was large with double sinks, but there was dirt behind the door of the bathroom that stayed there during the entire stay. The same is true of the entry area. The safety chain device was broken and it was hard to find a place to plug in a phone charger. The complimentary breakfast was a "heart-attack special." Greasy bacon, gravy, bisquits, fried potatoes and scrambled eggs were offered. There was no yogurt. There was dry cereal and a bowl of oranges and apples. We ate the first morning and checked the second morning to see it the offerings had changed. It had not changed so we did not eat there again. The grounds, with the exception of the pool area, were trashy. We won't stay there again.

We were not impressed with the hotel and probably won't stay at a Best Western again for the reasons noted above.

No hot tub as advertised...had counted on same after local hiking and spelunking...pool was ice cold, but new...maybe they got rid of the old hottub... Local like the hotel's brunch...nothing special about it but served by friendly staff... Rooms are worn down by years of tourist visits...rooms are tired looking....staff seems friendly enough.... This is a two-star hotel...several others in area look to be in better shape...

Room was large and clean, but bath needed some updating. Nice full hot and cold breakfast made it easy and quick to get on with our day to visit Carlsbad Caverns.

Good location, beds werevery comfortable. Request for more pillows unanswered---housekeeping is gone for the day. Budget travelers with children going to Carlsbad Caverns will find comfortable, rather dark, good sized rooms. Pool was available outside. Breakfast was cold eggs, stale biscuits, overcooked bacon. Not enough plates or bowls. Request for more pillows was unsatisfied due to housekeeping has left for the day. Does nobody else have a key? Desk clerks knowledgeable and unhelpful.

The Best Western Stevens Inn was quite nice. Staff was excellent and attentive to our needs. The room and grounds were comfortable and clean. The Breakfast buffet was excellent. That was the biggest plus for staying at the Inn, meals at a restaurant can be quite expensive today, especially if there are more than two in the party.

The roads were a mess and it was very hard to get around. The staff was great and very helpful about everything. I would stay her again for the staff and the price but the traffic was a mess and the location was not the greatest. My kids enjoyed the pool hours.

This is my second time staying here in the last 5 years, and the rooms are definitely in need of some serious upgrades. The beds are uncomfortable, the linens and carpet are worn, and the room lighting is poor. The door to my room was ill-fitting as I could see light streaming in at the bottom. Also, the A/C just didn't seem to dehumidify properly. They do provide coupons for breakfast in the morning, and the service seems pretty good. I only chose the hotel to its proximity to the caverns and Guadalupe. Next time I'll look elsewhere.

Its was ok the pool was nice. The bathroom was so small you had to step into it to close the door t. The room was average but the flies in the room were terrible, I didn't expect to be treated like royalty, but I felt like the Lord of the Flies.

Good location. Very outdated for the price. Definitely will not stay again, too outdated for the price, and unfriendly staff.

"I knew I wasn't checking into a 5 star hotel, but I was expecting a clean room. It was far from clean. The toilet had dried urine around the base and smelled like a dirty mens room. There was a dead cockroach next to the wall that housekeeping should have disposed of. I know housekeeping had just been in the room since our ice bucket was dripping wet... Do I mention all the dust and hair between the floor and wall in plain view? Or the hair around the sink? Terrible experience."

Nice room. Large vanity/dressing area. Toilet separate from vanity area. Asked for and requested two queen beds but got one king. Three of us had to sleep in one bed. Overall the room and hotel was surprisingly nice. The room was clean, had a large vanity/dressing area with the toilet and bath/shower separate. A little disappointed when we arrived to find only one king size bed while we asked for and expected two queens. There were three of us so it got a little uncomfortable trying to rest, but we managed. As far as their restaurant, they would go a long way if this area was improved. Even just a little. Way over priced, very few choices and the food was not that great. But the bottom line is we would go back and stay here. Just go out to eat.
