This was my first trip to Kauai. When looking for a place to stay, I was not looking for a place to spend an enormous amount of time, as I wanted to spend most of my time exploring the island. I was not looking for resort-type amenities, but rather somewhere more self-serving with a kitchen and such. I found the location of this unit perfect. It allowed me to easily travel to the north and south areas of the island. It was close to dining and shopping. The staff were very friendly and accomodating. The unit was clean. The common area was well kept. The pools were nice and usually empty. The beach was within walking distance. However, if you're looking to get in the ocean, you have to drive a bit further down the beach as this area is not safe for swimming. Overall, this unit met all of my needs nicely and I would stay here again without hesitation.

Great location, next to shops, great breakfast & dinner spots. It was a little ways from the beach considering other hotels in the area. Great location, next to shops, great breakfast & dinner spots.

Decent sized rooms with TV in both lounge and bedroom, but the beds were not very comfortable. The "garden view" was a row of tall bushes up against the lanai, screening the highway from view. The dishes were not clean and the microwave didnt work but the staff were quick to fix the microwave. That said, it was still a fair place to stay if you have a tight budget.

Sorry to say the hotel was not a good experience for my family. Without going into great detail, we had dead roaches inside our door every morning. Needless to say our room had odor issues. We were never able to resolve what the problem was. We got different stories from staff regarding the smell. My family needed a non-smoking room and we ended up with a room with air issues, etc. We tried to stay in the room as little as possible. The location is near many stores which is great for getting food, etc. The pools were updated. Overall I could not book again. Please research carefully when looking for a hotel. A good deal is important but so is having a good time on your vacation.

We really liked these accomodations-1 b.r., kitchen, balcony, with lots of space. Hotel is older but well maintained considering age, also quite clean. This was more than I expected for the money. It really helped having the kitchen-saved us a lot and allowed us to plan our day while making breakfast not to mention allowing us to eat healthier. The pool near our room was closed a couple of days but they have 2 more. Also no more puting green. We will definately recommend to others.

This was our first trip to Kauai and the Best Western Plantation Hale was recommended by a friend who has been going to Kauai for years. It was a great place to stay. I was a little skeptical after reading some reviews and if you expect the Hyatt you are in for a unpleasant surprise. For the price there is simply nothing that I think can beat it. The landscaping was nice, the staff was very friendly and it was quiet. I must say though that our family is pretty easy going. Our room was quiet, clean and very private. The beds were nice and the housekeeping came everyday. I did not see one bug in the room the entire 10 days. The kitchen had enough that we could prepare great meals with a little creativity (we own a restaurant so we do a lot of cooking). We only ate out 3 times (PukaDog, Shrimp Shack and Polynesian Cafe which I would recommend) in 10 days so we really used the kitchen. We have a two and four year old and this place was perfect. We did not see the point in spending tons of money on a fancy resort since we knew we really wanted to get out and explore the entire island. It is in a nice location in that you can walk to the grocery store and the Coconut Market Place. It is also centrally located so a short trip to either the North or South beaches. A couple of mornings it was raining so we headed South and sure enough it was clear. For the little kids I would recommend.....Lydgate State Park (awesome playground), PiuPio (great snorkeling for the little ones), Baby Beach (full of babies), Hanalai Bay by the pier(fun for trying out small waves) and Ka'e Beach (great snorkeling for the little ones). Altogether our trip was amazing and part of that was staying at the Best Western Plantation Hale. When I return to Kauai I would stay there again. The beaches and scenery in Kauai are breathtaking. It is almost unbelievable who beautiful it is.

The rooms are large and the hot tub was nice and hot! The beds were hard and there was a faint mustiness to the room, as if it used to be a smoking room. Upon checking in at the outdoor front desk, the service was friendly but not very welcoming. It was a dark, ground floor room on the side of the building facing the busy Kuhio Highway. It wasn't a terrible room, but though. On the plus side, there is a large, grassy field across from the hotel and a pretty nice little no-name beach. In the morning, I took one last dip in the warm Pacific before flying back to the mainland.

This hotel suite is more like a condo. Almost a full kitchen! Clean rooms.Great location. Central part of the island. Close drive to anywhere. Restaurants and shopping were very close. Safeway is less than 1/4 mile away and so we bought groceries and made a lot of meals in our suite to save money. Beds were hard, but pillows were great. Nice staff. Great value for our money. Wish we could have stayed here longer, but we had to switch hotels due to a work convention elsewhere on the island. Would definitely stay here again.

This room was more like a condo, with the kitchen included. It's a small kitchen but adequate. Small patios from living room and bedroom. Short walk to beach and shopping. Fantastic food at Hukalai Lanai. Living room furniture was more like outdoor furniture, not comfortable.

Two of the three pools are currently (June 2008) undergoing much needed renovation. Third pool to be renovated later. Near Lydgate Beach Park, where there is a baby beach and a wonderful playground.

We loved our stay at the Plantation Hale. Recently renovated, the large tastefully decorated rooms in were clean, comfy, and the complete kitchen was great. It is more like a condo. Location for walk-to shopping is super. Ocean access across a walkway through a grassy field. Very nice viewing beach, not very good for swimming. Kapa'a is a good central location for visiting all of Kauai. We will be back!

The Best Western Plantation Hotel was not what I expected. Although it was fairly clean...it smelled and the bath tubs/shower had mold in it. I am thankful that we only stayed one night in this hotel. The person that checked us in the night we arrived was very nice and friendly.

We were pleasantly suprised by this hotel. The kitchen was well equipped and had granite countertops. Flat sreen tv in living room. Laundry was inexpensive. Concierge very helpful and computer access easy and free. The bathroom could do with un upgrade. Coconut market next door worth a visit. Beach was beautiful but not ideal for swimming because of rock underwater.

Great value hotel located near the beach! Room was good size with separate living room & kitchenette. Saved money preparing meals. Located next to Coconut Grove for shopping, as well as Safeway down the street to save on food.

It's as clean as any other hotel for the same price, but in addition to the usual bedroom with TV and small bathroom, you get a large living room with another TV, a lanai, a 2-section bathroom, and a full kitchen with full-size refridgerator, stove/oven, microwave, blender, etc. The kitchen cabinets are stocked with dishes, utensils and cookware. We even found a corkscrew! It's like staying in a condo for a fraction of the price. There is no elevator, but there are only two floors and I'm sure the staff would be happy to help you get your things to the second floor if you have trouble. The hotel is conveniently located just off the beach and right next to the Coconut Marketplace. This hotel will always be my first choice whenever I go to Kauai.
