Great location / stunning viewsExcluding the average food and initial problems with the "inclusive dinner" overall a very pleasant experience. Leisure facilities in the price are a real bonus if the weather is poor, but worth seeking out good pub food locally. Buxton only 15 mins drive with plenty of value for money eating out.

Hotel in the hillsLarge, comfortable, spacious hotel out in the countryside. Friendly and helpful staff. Superb leisure facilities. Attractive grounds with excellent views of the surrounding countryside and easy access to Peak District. Restaurant serves decent quality English food, but watch out for overpriced wine. Prices in bar OK though.

DissapointedI am sadly of the opinion that the star rating and images of the hotel do not portray an accurate reflection of reality at this premises. The communal areas and rooms are extremely dated and the bathroom had mould in the grouting.The worst aspect of my stay at this hotel was by far the overwhelmingly poor standard of food offered in the dining room. Aside from the fact that the presentation perfectly fitted the dated decor, the food itself was close to being inedible and included a pea and mint risotto which had grease oozing from it onto the plate. This was served with (a rather bizarre accompaniment for risotto) mashed potato and vegetables. The potato tasted distinctly of powdered potato though this was disputed by the restaurant manager. Furthermore my starter was accompanied by toasted brioche - never before my stay at this hotel had I seen such a poor excuse for brioche which here resembled exactly thin sliced white bead. It must be noted however that the waiting staff were pleasant and professional throughout.In conclusion, I was not satisfied that the price paid with Late Rooms offered value for money and I do not intend to stay again at a Best Western Hotel, despite previous pleasant stays, as I feel that by re-booking with this chain I am taking a gamble as to the standard of quality I shall experience - as I am sure you will appreciate, when on a short break this is not something that one wishes to take a chance on.

helpful staffThe hotel was in an ideal position looking out on the hills. Staff were very friendly and helpful and room was excellent. The evening meal was excellent and gave an interesting choice of courses. With the offer including wine it was very good value. The pool was very welcome after we had done a 12 mile walk that day.

Fantastic location This hotel has a lovely rural location and good facilities. The room was ok although the bathroom wasnt as nice as I had hoped. Some of the communal areas and the bathroom needed some updating but other than that it was very friendly and clean. A nice hotal and a good price!

Couldn't fault the staff as everyone very welcoming and friendly,the first impression on driving through the beautiful countryside was very disapointing.Uncut lawns/golfcourse,rubbish in car park.In such a beautiful setting no provision for walking onto the moors,lots of rubble around.The health club was very nice and this is what let the rest of the hotel down.Looking out of the hotel room window at nothing but other windows when the views could have been magnificent,blocked and dirty exterior window sills and guttering.This could be a great place for walking and bird watching.

Trouble checking inArrived weary and looking forward to a peaceful evening. Kept waiting for ages while receptionist was in the back office on the phone. Took about an hour to complete check in, as the first room we were allocated had been used by someone - bed slept in, toilet not flushed, used cup and beer glass. Quite a shock, so we were given upgrade and a drink while it was sorted out. The standard grade room has a dormer roof, so there's a problem with headroom if you're tall. Other than that, the hotel is in a fantastic location, the spa and pool are clean and of a good size. Breakfast was buffet style, and well cooked.

Great relaxing break in a great locationStayed her with my husband last weekend and we were very pleased with the whole experience. We got a good deal with late rooms, dinner on 1 night and breakfast inc and thought the price was fantastic considering the quality of service, food and the beautiful surroundings. The accommodation is quite dated, so if you are looking for 5* modern luxury this is not the place for you. The hotel is very inviting as soon as you approach it, with the staff being very friendly and happy to answer any queries. We were told that there was a wedding on the Saturday and were moved to the 4th floor upon checking in so we wouldn't be disturbed, all this without us even asking. Staying on the topic of the wedding, we did not here any noise on the Saturday and on the Sunday it did not effect the breakfast service at all. The room itself was adequate and i found it to be fine although my husband thought it could do with a spring clean! On 1 night our tv was not working properly and this was replaced with 5 minutes of us asking! Very good service provided by all staff. The breakfast was great, all food hot and good service again by staff. The dinner was great too, all we had to pay for was the drinks on the first night. We also ordered room service and the Moorside burger was pure quality and very nice indeed! The hotel is surrounded by wonderful countryside, and we did a great 3 hour walk on 1 day! We didn't get a chance to use the leisure facilities, but from most we heard that they are very good. The only disappointment was the price of drinks at the bar, £5.50 for a glass of wine is very steap in my opinion and for this reason we were reluctant to spend alot of time there. Over all we had a great trip and would definately return there again.

awful bedsThis hotel has great facilities (pool, spa, gym) and the food was pretty good too. However, we got no sleep at all on the first night because the bed was so hard. The next day we complained and were given the choice of another room, but the bed in that was just as bad. We ended up asking for 3 duvets to sleep on top of. The management were rude and unreliable, but we can't deny that at £50 per night the hotel was great value.

A great place for a breakThe location is great, and the atmosphere fantastic. Although the restuarant staff were a little disorganised it did not spoil my stay. I would certainly go back.
