Good hotel, great locationWe had a cheap double room, with no view and could hear the air con most of the time. I am sure the more expensive rooms have a great view as the location is stunning. Easy to find, a few miles from Exeter

Excellent room. The staff was knowledgeable with the area and it was walking distance to historical buildings, shopping and dining.

We only stayed for one night, but found all the staff we encountered to be friendly and exceptionally helpful. The hotel is in a rural location and set in beautiful grounds, which is great for a quiet break. We arrived quite late in the evening, but the chef willingly stayed on to cook us a meal, which was excellent. The room was warm and the bed comfortable, although the decor was showing some early signs of looking tired. This was not out of place in such a beautiful old building. We would have no hesitation returning to this hotel.

Relaxing lovely stayWe have stayed at the Lord Haldon before and this time we had the most beautiful, quiet room with a lovely view from both windows. It is very relaxing and the staff are very good. The hotel is convenient for visiting places and is set in lovely surroundings. We will be staying again without a doubt.

So hard to find this hotel but was lovely when we got there!

Very nice setting. Only criticism was that I had no hot water in the early morning to have a shower! Also very difficult to find...don't bother with the sat nav because you'll end up completely lost. The postcode for the hotel is ex6 - yet the village it is in/near is ex2!

Wonderful old building out in beautiful contryside but bedroom in need of decorating. It had a lovely thick divan bed, lots of coffee/tea/milk & chocolate drinks and lovely biscuits which is unusual these days. One well-known chain only gives one packet (with 2 biscuits) perroom, but sadly the bathroom/toilet had thick carpet and one wonders how many times it had been soaked enabling germs to breed especially as shower over bath leaked through screen so if around toilet had been wet what could have been lurking in carpet!?

Staff very friendly and helpful. The room had superb views. Food excellent. We found the staff very friendly and helpful - nothing seemed too mch for any of them. The room was well appointed and had superb views. The hotel provided us with a copy of some lcal walks, which we took advantage of. Even the sun shone!

Stayed two nights. First night room was above kitchen. Sound of fan, smell of bacon and overwarm with all radiators off. Reception kindly moved us to upper floor at front of hotel; much better experience.Food in bar is of average quality; don't expect bargains from the AA 2 rosette kitchen. Restaurant food of very good quality. Waiter and bar staff vocally made their presence a little too obvious.

Be sure to approach the hotel through Ide village. If you follow sat nav and come the shortest route from the A30, as I did, there are about 3 miles of extremely narrow lanes with few passing places. Fortunately as I arrived after 8pm I didn't meet any other traffic or a herd of cows as happened to another guest as reported by the receptionist. Please can the best approach route be advised when booking at this hotel.

Excellent experienceThis was a beautiful old Manor with a charming staff and a slightly old fashioned feel that we throughly appreciated.Breakfast was magnificent. The room was old fashion but extremely comfrotable.

I thought the rooms were a bit dated but very clean and comfortable. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The breakfast was one of the best I have had at a hotel/B&B. All local produce was used and you could tell the difference. The location is out of the way with beautiful views and that is what I wanted - still only about 20 mins drive to Exeter City Centre.

Don't book this hotel if you want the following:-1. Easy access to anywhere else. It's down single track country roads, and if it's raining, your car will look like a tractor by the time you get there. The nearest shop of any description is 7 miles away, and they have nothing in the hotel.2. Simple food served quickly. After looking at the restaurant menu, I decided that the rather pretentious (and £20 a course) menu was not for me, so I went to the bar for their bar menu. Again, they seem to think that flashy is best, and even the fish and chips comes with "pea puree"! I opted for the relatively safe option of a carbonara and waited. And waited. And waited some more. After 35 mins, I politely enquired where my food was and was told that the chef had "misplaced" my order, and the food would be ready in 15 minutes. Presumably I could have sat there all night with the girl who took my order looking blankly on if I hadn't asked. I decided not to bother waiting another 15 mins, drove the 7 miles to a garage, and bought a sandwich. Breakfast was ok.3. A shower!!! I still find it difficult to comprehend that any hotel can achieve a 3 star rating without having a shower in the room, but this one has managed. Baths are all very well and good, but surely a shower is a must in 2009??4. Anyone who vaguely cares. I would have voiced these opinions to the receptionist the following morning, but she seemed to think she was doing me a favour by taking payment, and didn't bother to ask if I had enjoyed my stay or if I had any comments. My conclusion? They don't care.

I arrived late and was greeted by the manager and the receptionist who were both very helpful and friendly. Nice comfortable room and very quiet surroundings.

Nice friendly staff at reception and then room was very clean. Only negative if there is one is that the shower head could be replaced with one of a higher standard (although the shower was adequate) to achieve top marks.

Although we booked late for New Year's Eve, we had a nice room which was very clean overlooking a courtyard. We did not go for the celebrations, just to get away and it was a really good choice. The staff were very good and we had a good breakfast with a lot of choice. We would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Beautiful setting. Shower in the room could have been better but very good value for money.
