I was very impressed with this hotel, the location was good, near enough to walk into the town centre of York, and was about a 15 minute walk to the Race Course. There was ample parking a really nice swimming pool and there were a couple of nice pubs nearby, the staff at the hotel were lovely and we would definately return to this hotel. The laterooms deal was of good value because we had a 4 course meal included in the price and breakfast and the food was of a good standard.

BusinessAlthough the hotel is dated, the welcome is warm and genuine.Didn't try dinner as £23 a head for four course meal - and it didn't seem busy which always makes a meal a little lonelyBreakfast excellent - although downstairs - in dining room

This is a nice quiet hotel with very friendly staff. Food was lovely and great to have the gym and pool. Decor is a bit dated but hotel offers everything you could need.

excellent room and hotel in general. The morning of our break I telephoned and asked for a 4 poster bedded room, which on arrival we were given. This room with its lounge exceeded our expactations.we opted for one evening meal which was excellent.the staff were chearful and welcoming

I always use Laterooms to book hotels in order to access the real guest reviews. The reviews for this hotel are spot on! The staff are excellant, friendly and efficient. The room was very comfortable, the bed the most comfortable hotel bed I have slept in. The food is good, the set 4 course menu good unless you only want one or two courses.

Service was excellent and the facilities were good. Had a good time. Just wish the hotel was a little bit cheaper and that the bed was a little bit softer.

only one drawback of note. bedroom quite stuffy and no apparent airconditioning

We thought this hotel was excellent. Although we had booked only a standard double room, we were given a 'four-poster' bedroom - I think this may have been because we were booked in for four nights?? Staff were very friendly and helpful. Food in the restuarant was very good and there always seemed to be a change of at least one dish on each course every evening (we ate in the hotel for three evenings - one evening out). Walk into York (Mickelgate) was 10 minutes - 20 minutes to The Shambles. A good choice for the time we spent there.

The staff at the hotel were all great, very welcoming and friendly. the restaurant was first class and the breakast was superb.

We stayed in Room 18 which was unbearably hot, even with a fan running. The service in the restaurant at breakfast was very poor on the second day because none of the staff seemed to have defined roles; and we were not the only guests discussing a complaint. Furthermore, as the door is locked from 7pm until after breakfast, the doorbell sounds loudly in the restaurant; whereby a member of staff has to leave the guests she is serving to answer reception. We did not dine at the hotel in the evenings, but I would imagine this would be quite disconcerting throughout dinner. The staff are extremely friendly but they are overstretched, fulfilling many roles - we were checked out by the chef in full regalia! The hotel has a nice swimming pool, but as the CCTV images of the pool are on clear view to the public and all guests in both reception and the bar, it put me off swimming. The hotel does not have a lounge to relax in. Furthermore neither the bar nor the restaurant have windows as they are in the basement of the old building. There is a bus stop opposite the hotel but the service in the evenings runs about every 30 minutes and on Sundays only hourly. I feel this hotel is more suitable for business than leisure.

This was a desperate last minute booking when all other hotels in York were full. What a find! Small Best Western hotel, room was large and beautifully decorated, breakfast was excellant with very friendly service. Our only difficulty was the directions from the ring road were rather vague. It was also a good 1/2 hour walk into the middle of the city, but there were regular buses if needed.

Efficient courteous friendly staff, good food, ample car parking which is unusual in York, and I will definitely stay there again.

Only had breakfast. Food was excellent. A bit difficult to get to hotel due to traffic. Prices high for the standard of accommodation compared with what is on offer elsewhereStaff very friendly and anxious to be of assistance. Had small problem in room which was attended to vey quickly.

The hotel staff were helpful but did not tell me that they did lunch (sandwiches) on room service, so I had to go out to find some lunch. The food was excellent at dinner and breakfast and the service good. The swimming pool was lovely even though it was only 10 metres. The overall look of the public areas of the hotel were a bit dated and shabby - the carpet definitely needed replacing. Otherwise it was convenient and had its own car parking.

When we arrived the room we were given was quite noisey due to the kitchen extractor being outside the window. However, when asked the hotel staff moved us to another room which was nice and quiet. We had a lovely two night break. The breakfasts were great. The hotel has a new gym and pool with are very good. The hotel is only a 15 minutes walk from the city centre. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

The hotel is easy to get to and is only 20 mins walk from the centre. Friendly and helpful staff and the breakfasts are very good. The hotel is very quiet where you are left to do as you please. Will definitely stay again.
