My daughter and I went for a nice get a way and this hotel and city were superb!!!!! I was so very impressed with all the staff at the hotel and it was a beautiful location. The hotel provided a shuttle bus to and from the airport and that was very convenient. This hotel and a few others are located in the shelter Island area. There is no bus available to take you to downtown from here. It would be very nice if the few hotels in the area would agree to provide a shuttle bus that could pick up passengers from each hotel at a designated time and take them to the attractions such as sea World and the Zoo and charge a small fare. IT is quite expensive to get a cab costing from $20.00 to $30.00. But it was a wonderful trip and our best family trip ever!!!! We are anxious to come back again.

Our room unbelievable noisy, could hear toilet flushing above, our room was next to stairs and could hear everyone walking up and down all hours of the night. Window shutters had to remain closed for privacy. Our "waterview" room was of the hotel carpark and the RV's parked across the road! If looking for quiet weekend not recommended. Would not stay again.

Beautiful hotel, comfortable, clean and spacious rooms, which had microwave and refrigerator. I recommend spending a little more money and getting a junior suite on the second floor. The facilities are very clean and impressive. They have two pools and two whirlpools. The fitness room was small but well equipped. The laundry room was a good thing to have as we needed some clean cloths near the end of our vacation. The ground keepers were always working hard keeping everything clean and looking good. Hotel location is wonderful?We had many pleasurable walks along the marina. Very romantic and soothing! Make sure that you take advantage of the hotel?s free bicycles to ride around the area. The staff at the front desk was extremely courteous and helpful. The only negative was that there was no complimentary breakfast offered. It should have been included given the cost of the room, however all nice hotels in the area were even more expensive for not much better. As far as restaurants go, we recommend a Greek restaurant about 10 minutes away on Rosecrans Blvd called Georgia?s Greek Restaurant. We also enjoyed and recommend going to Cabrillo National Monument. We went to the Zoo, but wished we had gone to Sea World instead.

We were in San Diego on vacation trying to see and visit all that was there. The location of the hotel was perfect. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The best part though was the front desk staff. They answered any question we had and helped us with directions to all the local sites. They were kind and always had a smile!!!

Excellent hotel. The staff is phenomenal. The room was very nice had a wonderful view. The food there is excellent and the pools are great. There was hardly anyone ever in the smaller pool, but the larger pool had the bar. The hotel is a bit isolated and since we didn't rent a car it was a bit of a pain to get anywhere. However, when they were able the hotel did provide a shuttle as it did to the zoo and to Midway. They seemed to bend over backwards to help when they could. It is a bit of a walk to any restaurant other than the hotels on the island, but if you get a chance DEFINATELY walk down to Umi Sushi. Great food. Also go rent a kayak at Sharkey's! Paddle out to see the sea lions on the bouys! My son and I had a tremenous time and do plan on staying there again as soon as possible.

Came to San Diego with my two teenagers to watch the Big Bay Boom. I was very happy with my decision to stay at the Island Palms. Not only was it the ideal location to see the fireworks, the property impressed me in many other ways. I felt valued the moment I arrived. The front desk was friendly and helpful. (I listened to the exchanges between the staff and some guests that were around me, and I was amazed at how they went out of their way to make people happy, for example, when an older woman asked if they had a portable chairs available for use during the fireworks display, the clerk explained that they did not, but he would make sure that they found something for her.) They even set out fresh apples for the guests at the front desk - a very nice touch. A couple of the big benefits at the hotel were the free bike rentals and complimentary parking. Even though the hotel is in the heart of busy San Diego and close to everything, the location makes you feel like you are a million miles away on a peaceful island. My room (which was brand new and gorgeous) overlooked the marina, and I loved relaxing on the balcony watching the activity around the boats. At night the lights surrounding the marina were breathtaking. I came home with several beautiful photos! The Island Palms definitely made my family's vacation an unforgettable experience!

Beautiful grounds and view from room. Great location. No elevator to second floor. Very convenient to San Diego sites. Very friendly staff. Great park across the street with a lovely path along the bay.

This is very upscale Best Western and you can tell by the price you pay per night for your room. The staff was very friendly and helpful with fresh baked cookies everyday at 2pm, but the price was a bit too high for a casual weekend or any weekend at all in San Diego. I was not aware how many other hotels were around my location and within walking distance to the marina, I should have researched better because they were far more competitive in their prices. I could have saved $200 just by staying across the way. =( But in hand I do have to add that the Staff went over and beyond to make sure your comfort there was anything but perfect.

Great location, friendly and accommodating staff. Highly recommend it. The only thing the hotel could not accommodate was my request for adjoining rooms. The hotel was clean and conveniently located. Scenery was awesome. To simply look out your window or step out of your door to see boats, yachts, and naval ships was phenomenal!

Stayed in the Casa Del Mar building on the second floor. It was hot and the air conditioner made more noise, then blow cool air. The rooms need to be updated, but the location was wonderful. Nice quiet area. Very friendly and helpful staff. Computer with free internet in main lobby was a great help. Would stay here again.

Location was convenient to airport and downtown area. Construction was going on right outside our room. Very nice place to stay and convenient to airport and downtown area. The pool looked tempting and attractive but it was too cold to dive in. The bay across the street was ideal for walking and the marina in the back of the hotel was great. I would recommend this to my friends if they were traveling to San Diego.

"Do not stay here. It is not worth the $ you will spend. Rooms are tiny, dark, perhaps a coal mine might be better lite. You have two options for a shower; HOT HOT HOT or Icicles on your nose. Unlike a typical Best Western there was not a continental breakfast, we waited 25 min. and still our order had not been taken. Spend $* more and stay in La Jolla! The hotel looks nothing like the pictures that are posted on this website. It is old and dingy."

Spent a week at the hotel. Had a marina view which was nice. San Diego Bay was across the street - real nice! Rooms were kept very clean for the stay. Great price for the length of time spent - close to everywhere we went. Great pool area.
