Location cannot be beat - you can walk to all the good restaurants, bars, shops, and the UW campus. The hotel is old and while it is clean and well-maintained, you have the typical issues of an older hotel. The biggest is noise - the rooms are not sound-proofed very well, you can hear toilets flushing next door, people talking, etc. That said, the rooms are large and clean. If you can handle a bit of noise (bring some ear plugs or a white noise machine), the location is unbeatable. Well worth it if you like to walk and experience the fantastic downtown/campus atmosphere. When I return to Madison, I will stay here again (with my white noise machine in tow).

It was great being across from the capitol building. The parking was free which is a huge plus. The staff was always courteous and helpful. Would stay again. There are lots of bike paths in Madison, so bring your bicycle if you have one, or rent one when you get there.

The location was great and the free valet parking was a plus. The ceilings in the hallways were too low. I would stay at this hotel again, it was a great value for the location.

Location and free parking! The location of this hotel can not be beat. We were able to walk to almost everything we wanted to do.

I liked the location to State Street, but was not fond of the homeless people in the area. too small, not clean, no window to open, remodeling with drill and hammer at 6:45am. I was extremely disappointed with the room. I am claustrophobic and had a hard time getting over the fact that there was no window to open. The only way I could make it was to turn the air on very cool. I have never seen a bathtub that small and if I had to take a bath, I'm not sure I could have. The coffee pot had not been cleaned from the guest that were previously there. The convenience of its location did not make up for the room. I am extremely disappointed.
