Fruit fly's and mosquitos in room every day due to cleaning staff opening every window. Even with construction in lobby they are so money desperate that they kept the room directly next to the remodel construction booked. yep we were stuck there and it was BS. Lame staff and even lamer $12 parking fee for spaces that are full 90% of the time. AVOID THIS PLACE

Perfect La Jolla village location at a fraction clean, friendly, beautiful andsafe. We were so surprised to see how nice the hotel was and how centrally located it was. We are so pleased and will certainly go back.

This hotel looks like it was built in the 60's and never updated. Everything is tattered and worn. The saving grace it that it has a great location. The pool is tiny but passable for small kids. the breakfast is all off the shelf cereal and pastries with weak coffee but its a breakfast and since they don't have an in house restaurant or bar, that's helpful. There isn't even a mini bar in the room. Some of the upper floors have views of the ocean but you're 3 blocks away. My room looked out onto a wall of apartments across a back alley. Parking is extremely tight and cost $/night. The staff varied from friendly to a couple of guys who didn't look like they wanted to be there. The area is pricey so for $ (includes tax and parking), maybe it's not so bad but I'll look elsewhere if i go back. It's deceptive in that they advertise a gym also but it's $ and across the street. The area is beautiful, vibrant and a lot of fun: too bad the hotel doesn't remodel and offer something more than location.

The 2 star rating is fairly accurate. Probably a real nice hotel 20 years ago, now showing it's age. View of the ocean obscured by tall buildings as mentioned in another review. Was a bit disappointed there is a 12/day parking charge after spending 145/night for a room. They should just add this to the room rate. A/C was not on and we were there during hot spell in March, fortunately, only in the room at night so not a big problem. Beds were comfortable and room was clean. All that being said, great location!! Walked to the beach every morning for coffee while the kids slept in and had a great time. Little Italian place tucked away on Prospect, great food and fairly cheap.

The location. No vending machines for water. Iwould love to stay there again in the future.

I booked a room here for a weekend getaway w/ 2 of my friends. Maybe I had low expectations coming into the hotel, but I was pretty impressed. The room was clean and nice. The staff was friendly and printed out directions for us to places we wanted to check out. Their complimentary breakfast was excellent! One problem I had was that it took them about a day and a half to fill up the pool. By the time it was done we were already checked out. The location is great!! Close to the La Jolla Coves and Prospect Strip... I'd definately come by again for another weekend getaway!

Best Western By The Sea is a good place to stay. The staff is competent, the rooms clean and comfortable, the included breakfast really good, and the location superb! The parking fee of $12 per day is not a good move. It should be free (or hidden in the room charge).

Location. I did not like to pay $12.00 for parking. Clean, good continental breakfast. Cleaning staff wasvery friendly but not the check in staff. They seemed to want to be elsewhere while checking in and out.

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel very much. There are trendy shops near by. Bike paths are ambundant although a person has to not mind riding in traffic. There is an excellent restaurant next door called Paninis. The only disappointement we had was the listed fitness center was not at this location. Otherwise we would highly recommend this hotel.

My husband and I are fairly relaxed travelers, so a clean room and friendly staff make us happy! That said, we loved the location of this hotel -- it's not at water's edge, but for such a reasonable price, a few walking blocks from the water was great for us. We were a few blocks from a lovely walking/running path right along the beach, 1 block from a friendly camera store (who charged our camera battery for us when it died mid-trip!), and 1 to 2 blocks in any direction to great shopping and a variety of restaurants (from the quick and yummy Don Carlos taco shop to high end eateries). We did rent a car to venture outside La Jolla (we were in town for a friend's wedding), but we loved walking to the beach every day to watch the seals that gather nearby!

Close to the ocean. No parking! This hotel was disappointing. The rooms air conditioning system wasnt functioning properly, the bed wasnt much better than the floor, and we could hear the lady next door moaning. Nice. The seals at La Jolla cove made the whole trip. Go see them if your in the area.

The Ocean view room was tucked behind two large building over looking the alley behind the hotel. It was only a small slice of a view. Think slice of pie. The room looked like some frat party had there formal in it.It was dirty, old, and smelled like vomit. I could not believe that this was their best room It was their best and pitifully so.I asked the desk clerk if there was anything they could do. They replied, its a Best Western, what do you want? They were completely uncaring and really looked annoyed that I would ask them a question.

Hotels was a great value considering it's location to the beach, shopping and restaurants. I would plan to utilize this hotel in the future for return trips.

Room was clean. Hotel is noisy close to narrow street, everything echoes. Parking costs 12.00 dollars. Good for a short stay for business traveler. Room was clean and bed was comfortable. Hotel is noisy next to a narrow street where everything echoes. Hotel was possibly remodeled but you can tell the hotel is old. Costs $12.00 to park not included in cost.

It is located in La Jolla downtown, half block away from Hard Rock Cafe, 3 blocks away from the beach and beautiful seals. Walking around the area I found a great local brewery, and a great bookstore among other things. The hotel itself has nothing special, the room is ample and nice, clean and comfortable. No amenities. If it is a place you are looking for to go to sleep after a hard working day, it is perfect.

Very close location to the shore and La Jolla Village. Paying $12.00 a day for parking. It was nice enough and had a great location. The room was clean and large. Unfortunately, our view was of the parking lot at ground level, not very nice. The staff on duty at the time of our arrival was not very friendly or helpful. Also, paying for parking seems a bit out of line. You're already paying to stay there.

We enjoyed our stay on our recent visit to LaJolla to attend a wedding. All of our events were in walking distance and we could not have asked for a better location or value.

Convenient to la Jolla and other local attractions for the price i paid. Wall has no sound proof. I could hear just about everything coming from the next doors. For the budget, no complaints. Got kind of noisy at night when I could hear the activities from next doors. While falling asleep is not a problem like many other tired travelers, my experience with the hotel = above average. thumbs up.
