You either got a good room or very very bad room, you need to complain to get an upgrade. Evening meals fabulous, but don't have the breakfast for the price charged, its absolutely diabolical. The floors need some attention as it sounded as if the person in the room above was going to crash through the ceiling when walking about. Not a bad place to stay but up a very steep hill, so you will need a car

All i can say is DON'T book a room here. We booked 2 rooms 2 months in advance, paying the full amount at the same time. When we got there after a 4 hour journey we was told we couldn't stay there & we were told go to another Hotel. We went to the alternative place which was terrible so returned to Gleneagles to say it was unacceptable. The Manager was incompetent & didn't seem to care that we had children in tears. We were sent to a 3rd hotel which tuned out to be ok but we wasted half of our weekend.

We have stayed there before so we new the hotel. Its in a good position with good parking. The public rooms i think have been redecorated and look very good, the bedroom are ample size and are reasonably comfy and clean although the bathrooms are well past their best and need renovating, we stayed in the orange room. That said we had a great time there with good staff and good food and at the price we paid it was well worth the visit, and we intend to go again in the future.

the hotel was clean and comfortable. the room was a little small but the view over Ansty`s Cove was priceless. we sat on the very small, balcony evry morning with a coffee. BLiSS. would go back there any time.

The only thing that lets this hotel down is the room. As other guests have mentioned the rooms are in need of some updating. We stayed in Sea spray on the first floor. I payed for a seaview room, the sea was obscured by a tree, but at least it hid the skip of dumped matresses and bits of bathroom (I looked at this as a positive thing - at least they are doing some of the bathrooms up!!!)The downstairs is beautiful in mock art decco style. The staff were friendly enough. I just feel that they should have spent about 1/3 of their million pound groundfloor refurb on some of the rooms!Would recommend for one overnight stay, function downstairs, walk to beautiful Anstey Cove, through the unkempt back garden of the hotel.

Having read about 'the million pound refurbishment of our Torbay boutique hotel, Best Western Hotel Gleneagles' and booking a sea view room I expected my stay to be pleasant and comfortable. In reality, it was anything but. The hotel is refurbished but only on the outside (entry facing facade), lobby and restaurant look impressive, no doubt. Yet the room left me absolutely speechless. I can only compare it to a broom cupboard size wise. Bathroom looked like it was last decorated 20 years ago and not in the best taste either. Dirty carpets, stains on the walls, leaking ceiling tiles and taps that would not stop dripping ... Just some of the features of the hotel that claims ' their goal is perfection'. Perfection of what is the question that has been left unanswered. I do hope some of the rooms have been refurbished though (million pounds should have had whole hotel rebuilt). Unfortunately, not the 'ocean view' one I had the pleasure to stay in. Moreover, I would recommend Gleneagles to change it to 'kitchen view' to give potential guests the true description of what they are going to pay for.I have been in corporate travel business for more than 13 years and have some understanding of the standards of Best Western hotels worldwide. Unfortunately, Gleneagles is below every standard I have seen so far. Not even for die hard Fawlty Towers fans.

We had stayed at Gleneagles twice before - the last time about four years ago. We had had good deals on the previous two occasions, and although the hotel was a little tired then, it exuded some charm. We understood that the hotel had rebranded itself, and thought it would be a good place to go for four nights over the Whitsun period to see what had been done with the hotel. We were very disappointed. Apart from the operational manager, Trevor, the rest of the visible staff were unimpressive with little concept of customer service. This was particularly noticeable on the front desk reception where the man and woman who appeared to interchange were equally indifferent to guets. We had booked a rear sea view room. The front of the hotel had been smartened up, but we were disappointed to see that the balconies for the sea facing rooms were exactly as we had seen them four years ago. They were rusty with plastic chairs on them that looked like they had never been washed. If the weather had been okay we would not have been able to sit on the balcony even if we had wished to. The room was adquate. We were surprised to find that the small portable TV was operating with an internal aerial only, and the only channels available were BBC 1, BBC 2, ITV and Channel 4!! The towels were thin and not nice at all, and, on one occasion, the toilet paper had not been renewed by the cleaner which could have been very embarrassing. The cooked breakfasts were of poor quality. Small eggs and, for meat eaters, just one rasher of bacon. The layout of the communal areas was a deterioration from four years ago. The conservatory was now laid for meals, and, as a consequence, it was not possible to sit there with a drink. We had to make do with the inner area where there were no views. Finally, as per four years ago, the Gleneagles was still playing Muzak non stop (and not good muzak at that). Overall a very disappointing experience at a not cheap cost, and one we will not be repeating.

The light over the mirriorabove the basin in the bathroom did not work. This was reported to reception. Some changed the bulb, but the light still did not work. I ran the hot water for a bath, but it would have been generous to have called it tepid. The electric wall heater in the bathroom did not have it's pull-switch.so I do not know if it worked or not. These latter two were reported to reception with the suggestion that I might get a discount, but this was also ignored. The bar and dining room staff were pleasent and obliging. Just in case you don't know this was the hotel that provoked " Fawlty Towers"

It was a lovely stay at the hotel. We were going to eat at the hotel in the evening but didn't like the set menu and thought it was very expensive and the snack menu didn't look to appertising. Instead we ate at Nimo's Italian restaurant just down the road which was an amazing meal. The staff were very helpful though and the girl at reception was very helpful when we asked where we could eat. She was very attractive too.

We had a very pleasant stay at the Gleneagles bed and breakfast for two nights for a short break. We were allocated a Seaview room, an added bonus, which we hadn't booked. Nice full English breakfast, quickly served. Very good value stay.

Have stayed before, consider that previous stay better, now gone upmarket in the downstairs areas, however, bedrooms still do not come up to scratch.

Unfortunately, however hard the hotel tries to improve any aspect of it's service, the construction of the building itself means that the hotel is a very noisy place at night, and I would seriously suggest ear plugs. This is a shame because it has lovely public rooms and an attractive small pool and a fabulous view. The Sunday lunch seems to be reknowned in the area and I shall be booking it next time we go. I shall also go for a seaview room, rather than one overlooking the car park.
